  1. I am very tempted to just merge this thread into the original one floating back a page or two on the forum about Myers-Briggs. ...it has a poll. OK, maybe it's further back than I thought it was. Bah. Carry on!
  2. Heh. We actually moved a year and a half ago. There was a LOT of work that needed done on the old house before it was sellable, and much of it really couldn't be done while we were still living in it. (We ripped out all the carpets to get to the original hardwood floors of the place. Just try doing that with furniture in the house.) Yes! I am excited.
  3. Ahh, I see that I do not have to tell you about the Unofficial 17th Shard Chatroom Thread, as you have found it on your own. Their mushroom burgers are, indeed, tasty. However, Orlion is right - Smashburger is better. This is the real reason to go to Culver's. Actually, I think Freddy's is a bit more equivalent to Steak 'n Shake. Which they're still sort of in the same genre, but Culver's is a bit more fast-foody than the other two.
  4. We have a giant new TV. It's, like, stupidly big. 65". Twice as big as the old TV. (We put most of the proceeds from the house sale into investments, since that's where the down payment for the one we live in came from and James is quite sure we will get a better ROI there than in the potential interest savings of putting down a chunk early on the mortgage. But we kept a bit back for a little celebratory splurge.) Also, I turn 40 this year so we are going to Hawaii.
  5. Or it's trying to collect a matched Star Wars set and got very confused.
  6. I want to be Holtzmann when I grow up.

  7. I'd chide you for apologizing yet again over nonexistent annoyances, but...man. Autocorrect borked that post in some truly entertaining ways. Carry on, good sir. (We all <3 our Quiver.)
  8. My sister currently lives in Portland, and the cost of housing is completely insane. And it's not just that - the city has a massive degree inflation problem, where you're expected to have specialized schooling even just to be a freakin' barista. The place is a bit nuts.
  9. I think what you're missing is connections. You're an introvert, so you can handle lots of alone time, but finding folks who Sing the Song of Your People is a serious boost. You need friends. Not just casual, hey-I'm-friendly-with-this-person acquaintances, but real friends who will come over and binge-watch nerdy TV shows with you and call you up to go on a random adventure exploring someplace they heard was neat. Friends who will talk Sanderson and Buffy and My Little Pony and Gravity Falls with you for stupid hours on end. My advice: start looking up local nerd culture things. Find a gaming store that has open board game nights. Find a local con to check out (I know there's a literary sci-fi/fantasy con in New Orleans, but the name escapes me right now), make a mistcloak, and go. Instead of hoping that you'll find people in your day-to-day life who share your interests, actively seek out places that cater to those interests and meet people that way.
  10. Sounds like you have a specific question to ask him the next time you make it to a signing.
  11. Heh. Go for it. It's patently ridiculous in a way that makes entirely too much sense. Anyway...I generally err on the side of taking Brandon at his word, and the tone I've inferred from these WoBs feel to me more of a "I thought about it, but it just really didn't work" vibe, rather than a "ha-ha I am sneaky" vibe.
  12. Heh. This sounds like phrasing I would use. Really, when it comes down to it, Brandon has flat-out said that Earth is not Cosmere. In my mind, that means that Earth does not and never has existed in the universe that contains the Cosmere. Granted, I hold to a silly little headcanon where Adonalsium was actually a Time Lord artifact that was designed as a creation engine and, like most Gallifreyan technology, was self-aware enough to decide it wanted to go off and do its own thing and created the Cosmere worlds. But I also acknowledge that I am completely, utterly, and mind-bendingly wrong. Sometimes being wrong is more fun.
  13. GIR!!!!

We now conclude this interruption.  Back to your regularly scheduled Sharding.

  14. Hee. This one gets a lot of people. Basically, once upon a time, someone asked Brandon at a signing whether Scadrial had waffles. The answer was yes. And thus the silliest WoB to date was obtained.
  15. Either that, or she was named by Hagrid.
  16. So she is murder in an adorable feathering fluffmuffin shell. ...I love this bird.
  17. BUT SHE IS SO CUTE
  18. It's because you're in a secret competition over who is more adorable. It's the inevitable struggle for dominance by way of cute.
  19. My instinctive reaction to that is to throw my head back and cackle a full-throated supervillian laugh. This probably says something profound about my general character as a human being.
  20. All this talk about Feruchemical iron makes me ponder the viability of using weight medallions to simulate mass and create artificial gravity fields on spaceships. Nothing of real substance here, just musing.
  21. I attended my first WorldCon and scored a major award in the Masquerade. Woot. It was the Year of People Declaring Me To Be A Responsible Adult. Work promoted me to supervisor (this is still weird), the Shard promoted me to moderator (@Rubix be crazy, man). There's another thing in the works yet, but until it's set in stone I won't announce it publicly.
  22. See my edit. In my defense, it's been a while since I posted those pictures.
  23. Hee. You may have to dig around the thread to find them. I was, at least, kind enough to put them all in one post and under a spoiler cut. But IIRC, there are quite a few pictures in there. I will also neither confirm nor deny whether there are pictures of me in my Cosplay thread. ETA: Wait, did I really only put one picture of that up in there? WAIT! I REMEMBER The picspam is on the Relationships thread!
  24. No regulations. Some people don't like sharing photos of themselves on the internet, but there are no rules against it here. (I mean, I spammed the What Do You Look Like thread with my nerdy wedding photos, so...)
  25. That's true. The character of mine that I'm thinking about when discussing this is a Roughsgirl who grew up keeping an eye on the cattle by sitting up in trees and taking potshots at lions and hyenas. So you're quite right; her Allomancy is a thing that is useful in enhancing her skills, rather than it being the source of her skill.
