  1. You're still pretty young, right? Your situation isn't unusual in teenaged males, and it can persist into your early twenties. You'll reach a point sooner or later where you'll be able to fill out a bit more and no longer starving every two hours.
  2. They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!
  3. You are most welcome.
  4. "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!" "They're fixing my eyeballs with laser beams!" These two things carry the same rhythm cadence.
  5. I agree that it's absurd for doctors to take one look at a person and decide that all of their problems are because of weight. But on the flip side, my current homeostasis level doesn't work well with my pathetically weak joints. Dropping 20 pounds is going to make my knees much happier with their lot in life. And once I achieve that new weight, I'm going to have to fight to stay there until I can reprogram my body to recognize that as its new threshold of homeostasis. Also, I tend to gain weight around my middle, which gives me a higher percentage of visceral body fat. This is a risk factor for a higher rate of heart disease, so it's in my heart's best interest for me to trim some of that stuff away. So sometimes these things are linked. Not all the time, but it's always a good idea to take a look at everything as a whole and see how it's all interconnected. Sometimes there's no connection, sometimes there is. And then sometimes people gain weight because of a different underlying health condition.
  6. Yes, I'm talking about university. It's pretty common here to have a lot of basic general ed requirements in the first year or two of it, and if you're going into anything remotely science or engineering-oriented, you're expected to take a lot of basics in multiple sciences to have a solid grounding in all of those concepts. So yeah, freshman Chemistry is a requirement for a lot of STEM degrees.
  7. You get devoured! *inserts an eldritch glyph to lull Cthulhu back into slumber*
  8. The idea of multiple entities being basically the same thing is hardly a new concept; the ancient Egyptian (Kemetic) pantheon syncretized deities together all the time. Basically, there is this overarching concept called "Netjer" which is the source of Divinity as a whole. The gods were often referred to as the Names of Netjer, or "Netjeru" - basically all the different names that Divinity could be called. They were both separate and distinct from each other and the same at once, and the ancient Egyptian people didn't really have a problem with that. In fact, they would often stick two gods together and declare a new one - this is how you get gods like Amun-Ra, and how you can explain that Hathor and Sekhmet are the both the same goddess and totally different ones at the same time. The Christian Trinity and the Names of Netjer are different takes on the same concept. It's just that Kemetic tradition has a much bigger trunk of divine Legos to play with than Christians do. So the Kemetic gods tend to specialize more heavily than the Trinity does.
  9. Bear in mind that this was freshman chemistry - EVERY engineering and sciences student had to take it. Everyone. Chem, Physics, EE, ME, CompSci - everyone.
  10. I didn't even MEET James till I was 31. It'll happen when you find the right person.
  11. You get a Wayne doodle! *inserts 80s hair metal*
  12. Weep, O Sharders! For I have lost a cultural treasure of humankind! Last night, I composed a new piece for flute in my dreams. I cannot remember any of it. The loss reverberates throughout the cosmos.
  13. ASA-PRK; it's a bit more intense, but a viable option for people with thinner corneas. And since I've worn contact lenses for over 20 years, it might have affected my corneas enough to not qualify for regular Lasik. I should find out for sure on Friday.
  14. I don't remember how it translates to glasses prescriptions, but in my contact lenses I'm -6.5 in the left eye and -7.0 in the right. Which definitely falls into the "quite near-sighted" category. I'm not the absolute worst, but I have coke-bottle glasses. There's a solid possibility that my corneas aren't thick enough for the best Lasik procedure, but there's another type that I would probably qualify for if I didn't make the cut on the good one. It would just have a longer recovery time afterwards. I also cannot guarantee that on surgery day I will not pretend to be a superspy that's been captured by the enemy being tortured into talking.
  15. Head achey. Hate glasses. Brain used to contacts. (This is a necessary precursor to my Friday appointment to see if I can get Lasik, but for the moment I suffer.)
  16. I'll see your 7:30 lecture and raise you 7:30 college freshman chem lab. Yes, someone thought this was a good idea to throw a bunch of sleepy college freshmen into a class module that involves playing with volatile chemicals under the tutelage of an elderly professor whose speech pattern was a cross between that of Elmer Fudd and Porky Pig. It's a wonder that the Chemical Engineering building on that campus is still standing. I still say that Shallan/Adolin/Kaladin should all hook up into a stable triad and live happily ever after. #EndTheShippingWars
  17. So my strong pull towards polytheistic Paganism was pre-approved! Sweet.
  18. More Walking Dead dreams last night. But hey, no little red bugs crawling all over me! I'll take zombie fighting over that any day.
  19. Spoiler tagged for girly TMI. You have been warned! I am so so so so happeeeeeee!
  20. Thing I Have Learned This Weekend: Taking my Kindle with me has made a marked change in exercise motivation. Instead of dragging myself onto the elliptical three times a week, I am now eagerly bouncing downstairs for a 30-minute run daily. Behold, the power of books! Yay, Zathoth!
  21. Dreamed last night that I was back in college band. And for some reason we were getting ready to start on a piece that started with the jazz number "Take Five" that then segued into "Axel F". And I was stuck on my oboe, but really, really wanted to play my saxophone for it. But I couldn't, because reasons? Then I also dreamed that I was on The Walking Dead, helping folks deal with the Saviors. And they captured Carol, but for some reason left her with me, and there were some other folks there, and I was scheming on how to get everybody with me to the Kingdom safely. And then I got covered with tiny red bugs and had to shove myself into a water sluice to wash them off. And then the bugs were dead, but I still had to scrape them off my skin and honestly the bugs were way more disturbing than the murderous people I was scheming against. Takeaway from this: "Take Five" would be pretty awesome to steampunk up and throw in some electronic beats.
  22. Oooh, I have attracted a pile of random trolls on Facebook!  This...this is going to be a fun weekend.

    :D  <_<

      A real mature bunch, aren't they? <_< Also, yikes. I'm sorry :(

Heh, don't be sorry, I'm actually rather enjoying this way too much. I think that many of our Sharder friends would be shocked, shocked I say, to see how utterly snarky and ruthless I can be off the forum.

  23. I have this. Lactaid milk is my friend. (Almond milk and soy milk are disgusting.)
  24. Derp. Can you tell what instrument family I'm least familiar with? Corrected! Heh. Oboes are almost as bad; we have two different octave keys, meant to be played with totally different notes. And I have three different ways of fingering an F. But I think we didn't get loaded down as badly as bassoons just by virtue of having smaller instruments. Have you ever heard the P.D.Q. Bach bassoon quartet? There's a spot in the piece where the 4th bassoon has to play a note that's a half step lower than a bassoon can play. So one of the other players has to stand up and stick a cardboard tube into the 4th bassoon's bell.
