  2. Yes. As already mentioned, you can PM expelled players at any time. They can only respond if you tell them (truthfully) that you are in Imre.
  3. LG 65: Term 5 Month 1 - Hundreds of Stories “… and that was the tale of the thrice-lucky almond dealer.” Seòras let the words ring out, seated by the fire in front of a small audience now chuckling at the conclusion of his last story. Tales had brought him to the University, and tales were now helping to pay his way through it. Once the laughter had subsided, he spoke again. “What tales should I tell next? The tale of the Princess and the Blue-Winged Wren, or shall I sing the Ballad of the Horse Pirate Vaon?” “How about a tale about the fae that invade our world?” Someone called out. “Got any songs about skindancers?” People’s faces noticeably went sombre at this, though after a moment they started to nod and agree with the suggestion. Seòras couldn’t see who had called about – probably someone standing in the back. “I suppose I do have a yarn or two I could spin about the creatures from the Fae. It’s a little more grim than my last story, but let me tell you of the Mystery of the Demon from Caluptena. The Caluptena was a place of knowledge, vastly greater than our own archive here. The legends don’t agree whether it was just a building, or if it was an empire, but the detail is of little consequence for our tale.” As he spoke, he began to tap an slow, irregular beat, emphasising odd syllables as he worked to invoke and enhance the sense of unease present in the room. “I tell you now a tale of war, flame, and the Tehlin church, for as you know, three things do demons fear: cold iron, clean fire, and the holy Name. You see…” The voice interrupted. “Cold iron you said? You mean like this?” The crowd was forced aside as the cloaked figure pushed forward through the crowd, a cloud of grey shards flying from their hands. Seòras screamed as the shards tore a hundred new holes in his already raggedy clothing, and screamed louder as the cold iron burned his flesh, before screaming again as the force knocked him from the chair into the open fireplace. His screams were joined by those of the students that had been his audience, now fleeing from the display they’d seen. As his world ended, he supposed that at least now as he died, he was becoming a new story that would travel on by word of mouth, just like all the stories he had once collected. * Sloan roamed the streets, smiling. It was warming up. Just a touch, but even a little bit was better than nothing. Hopefully spring would be here before too much longer. For now, she’d content herself with the slightly warm night and hope she found success in one of these alleys. Skipping across the cobblestone streets, she let the beat run through her, driving her steps. Forward, forward, back, back, forward, side, back, twirl. She closed her eyes with the twirl, feeling the breeze blow through her hair. Her night was made in the sixth alley she checked. Someone huddled in a grimy little hovel, built over time by other street-dwellers from the junk thrown out by the nearby Horse and Four. He was fiddling with an object, and she heard him muttering quietly. She crept closer and froze as the words “Master” and “Fishery” stuck out. “You’d think last month would’ve at least temporarily sated my need to watch the bright light of life leave the eyes of all the students at your school as I can,” she began. The student whirled in her direction, and she gave him a little wave. Well. More like the knife in her hand gave him a little wave. Details. The student’s eyes widened, and he dropped the object he held. “I can pay you! Anything you want! Please don’t hurt me!” Sloan chuckled, eying his clothing. “You’re no noble. Even if you were, you couldn’t pay me enough to let you go free. You see, those who know me best know that my…..bloodlust, I suppose, can’t be bribed. Not by your kind.” “I’m no one!” “You certainly are. Or, you shortly will be.” He broke down, and she bent over him, grabbing his hair and yanking him closer. His wet eyes opened again, and she saw into his soul. Or it felt like she did. “You shouldn’t have come to my streets,” she said as her blade cut deep. The light left his eyes, and she wiped her blade clean on his shirt and contemplated his still form. There had been no music in his soul. No beat. She had yet to find a student with music. It was like the University killed that part of a person. All of them needed to die, to save the world. She was merely the weapon guaranteeing the University’s demise. She turned and left the alley, clicking her heels to the music. Maybe she’d find another student to slaughter before the night was over. Seoras (Haelbarde) was killed! He was a Skindancer! Lord Silberfarben was killed! He was a Student! Maern (Xino) was attacked, saved, and went insane! Vol (Devotary) was brought on the Horns but the charges were dropped! Lyoan (Fura) was brought on the Horns and charged with Conduct Unbecoming! He will be lashed! Traelynn Weeks (Kynedath) ws brought on the Horns and charged with Conduct Unbecoming! He will be lashed! The following students were elevated: Athdara (Elandera), Bryn Aria (Burnt Spaghetti), Vol (Devotary), Lyoan (Fura), Traelynn Weeks (Kynedath), Knighter Nune (Rover). Straw Altiora (Straw) and Shard (Experience) are now Masters! Term 5 has begun! It will end on Sunday, May 17th, at 4 PM PDT.
  4. Not this past turn. I was referring to consistency, since Bard is the only other player thus far to have survived an attack. I couldn't remember what was said about that attack/survival though.
  5. There was protection on the attack. I couldn't remember if El had put "and protected" on Bard's failed attack. I'll edit that in.
  6. As you've noted, kills come before DP. They also come before elevations. Walin could not have elevated anyone or filed DP because he was dead. His spot has been filled by an NPC Master.
  7. LG 65: Term 4 Month 2 - Fae Refuted In this turn, three students expelled! For so few votes surely doom spelled Cadici set fires, Rath made vulgar flyers And Ugfal the Three-Handed smelled. Maern had a scare just last night - The assailant gave him a fright But he did not die, For the man was quite spry And the attacker had to take flight There once was a man named Lin Wa, Who followed each letter and law, But being a Master Could not make him faster Than the blizzard of iron he saw. There once was a metallic storm Which ripped over Lin Wa’s true form And as for the answer Was he a skindancer? You’ll find it beneath iron’s swarm. (There once was a GM named El Who thought this turn turned out quite well The limericks fine The spreadsheet in line And now I will bid you farewell) * * * Limericks. Sloan hated limericks. They never seemed to work with the music that always filled her mind. And yet, there was a limerick there, fighting with the song she was humming. It was even one of her favorites - the song, not the limerick - which made the limerick annoy her all the more. Where was this sound coming from. If she found the source, she’d kill it. Even if it was one of her people. Anyone muttering in limerick form didn’t deserve her protection. She tried to dance down the street, humming louder to block out the limerick. But no, the limerick got louder. She couldn’t even make out any words but it was increasing in a syllabic volume that made her forget how cold it was. (Maybe if she wasn’t so frustrated, she’d be thrilled about something causing her to forget the chill, but no). A shadow in the alley caught her eye, and she spun toward it. She’d lost her beat. That had never happened to her before. Whipping out one of her daggers - a jagged little work of art she loved to slice through skin with - she stepped toward the alley. And the words became clear. “For students, there’s three things to know - The first is that school makes much woe And even if worked on Till you see light of dawn You might still have nothing to show!” Sloan grinned. It wasn’t one of her people. She would’ve delighted in killing the student without any encouragement whatsoever, but this one. This one had made her lose her beat. The blood ran dark out of the alley and Sloan danced away. The beat was back, the limerick silenced. The night suddenly seemed so much brighter. Lin Wa (Walin) was killed! He was a Skindancer! Amila Tays (Zillah) was killed! She was a Student! Maern (Xino) was attacked and protected! Ugfal the Three-Handed (Stink), Cadici (CadCom), and Rath were all brought on the Horns and the Masters, in a stroke of viciousness, expelled all three of them! The following students were elevated: Seoras (Haelbarde), Athdara (Elandera), Straw (Straw Altiora), Lasko Veitch (Karnage), Vol (Devotary), Rath, Ugfal the Three Handed (Stink), and Leo (Lopen). Term 4 Month 2 has begun! It will end 15 May at 4:00 PM PDT.
  8. You cannot become a Master if you're under the effects of the lashings. If you were to hit 15 while under the effects of lashings, your elevation to Master would wait until after, assuming someone else did not hit 15 before the effects wore off. What field is destroyed is announced, yes. After all, people need to know where it's pointless to file EP. DP is separate from the complaint votes. A PC Master can vote / file complaints and DP. They can also file DP against people who did not have any complaints filed against them. Elevations to master happen at the same time as other elevations, though a master elevation does not prevent another person from being elevated in that field.
  9. Field destruction is announced in the thread, yes. The Skindancer would no longer be the Master of that field but it would not be revealed they they had dropped down to El'the.
  10. As far as I can tell, Devotary's count is accurate. I'm on mobile and the sheet crashed on my phone so I can't pull an official one from the sheet but count that. Plus Xino's 2 votes for Stink.
  11. Term 3 Month 2 - I Dreamed a Dream Evelyn Bryen stood proudly in front of the Masters. It was finally time - Rowan, the noble she’d been working with, had somehow found the pull to get her a private audience to present her ideas. Being a noble must be nice. “So you see, if you just raised your prices on the nobles who can easily afford the expense, you could maintain your current budget but still admit more students based on merit rather than merely who has money,” she finished, gesturing at the graph she held. She was met with stony silence, rather than the applause she’d imagined. Couldn’t they see how right she was? “Just to be clear,” the Master LInguist said slowly. “You are recommending that we admit fewer nobles, who are by far the most powerful and influential section of our students, and charge them ridiculously high prices in order to admit a few more commoners. Do you want the University to close?” “What? N-no,” Evelyn stammered. “This would make the University better, can’t you see? A haven of learning as it’s meant to be, not just a place where nobles send their layabout sons and daughters! Here, if you want to read our paper, it has the arithmetics laid out in detail...” “You think the University isn’t a haven of learning? Girl, what rock have you been living under - around you are the best minds for a hundred miles!” “Are you in your right mind?” the Master Physicker added, with a concerned look. “These ideas of yours seem clearly to be delusions, in my medical opinion. Perhaps you should take a stay in the Crockery for a while?” Evelyn stared, mouth agape. “But- of course I’m sane! You can’t send me to the Crockery - this is - you’re deliberately silencing me for your own benefit!” “Yes, I quite agree,” the Master Sympathist said to the Master Physicker, ignoring her. “Poor girl. I do hope she’ll come to her senses soon.” “You can’t do this!” Evelyn screamed as two guards came up behind her, taking her arms. “This is the deepest injustice - I will see that you’re exposed for who you are, I vow it!” The Masters watched her be dragged away, shaking their heads sadly. Evelyn screamed all the way to the Crockery, but no one listened. No one ever would again. Evelyn Bryen (DeTess) went insane! Nethwyl Nox (Bard) was brought on the Horns and found guilty of Conduct Unbecoming a Member of the Arcanum! She was expelled! Catalan (Coda) was brought on the Horns and found guilty of Undignified Mischief! Lyoan (Fura) was brought on the Horns and found guilty of Undignified Mischief! Maern (Xino) was brought on the Horns, but the charges were dropped! These students were elevated: Seoras (Haelbarde), Kendel (Elkanah), Maern (Xino), Catalan (Coda), Lasko Veitch (Karnage), Amila Tays (Zillah), Arael Solon (Araris), Lin Wa (Walin), Leo (Lopen). Term 3 Month 2 has begun! This turn will end May 11th, at 4:00 PM, PDT. Remember to get your lodging orders in!

  13. Term 3 Month 1 - Angel of Music Sloan hated the cold with a fiery passion that stemmed from the bottom of her soul and burned almost bright enough to keep her warm. The layers upon layers of warm clothing helped too, though. On the streets, winter meant death. Everywhere she looked, her people were slumped, silent, struggling to survive in a winter that was not meant to be weathered outdoors. Illness now was a death sentence, so they avoided each other even when the chances for survival might be better together. It was tragic, but such was life. The people didn’t consider themselves ‘hers’, of course. They were too busy not dying to pay attention to any such thing. But they were hers nonetheless - she was the one who chased out the slavers and the mercenaries from out of town, the one who killed anyone who tried to take too much advantage of them. They were hers and she would not see them hurt. With one exception. If Sloan found a University student on the Streets, they died. No questions, no second chances. Ryykal gulped, looking out at the faces in front of him. After months of practicing, he’d finally worked up the nerve to try for his Pipes, but even now he was having second thoughts. I only have one chance at this - what if I mess up? What if I fail and can’t go to University anymore? They’d laugh me out of the Eolian! But he couldn’t back out now, so he squared his shoulders and turned his attention to the piano keys. He shook his head to try to dislodge the melody in it - that wasn’t what he was going to be playing today - but it only got stronger. He frowned. Come on, focus. He’d never had this problem before! Sure, melodies got stuck in his head, but not like this. It was almost like the music wasn’t in his head at all, but where could it be coming from? Was someone playing outside just to make this harder for him? Ryykal gritted his teeth. He’d just have to deal with it. He put his fingers on the keys and began to play. If anything, the melody got louder - or maybe it was just that it was so much more obvious when he was trying to play a contrasting melody. He groaned - he just couldn’t play like this! Sure, the notes were right, but they were coming out stilted and mechanical and not at all up to the Eolian’s standards. Still playing, he looked around the room, trying to find the source of the other music. Someone had it out for him, he was sure. Someone was trying to make sure he didn’t get his Pipes, probably because they knew he wouldn’t be able to attend without them. He didn’t see anything. Maybe they were outside, playing through the walls? He couldn’t play like this. He could see the boredom, even the disdain on some of the faces looking up at him. The melody was just getting louder and more discordant now, and he just - couldn’t. Ryykal stopped playing mid-line. “Does anyone hear music?” he asked. If he could just show them the saboteur, he’d be allowed another try, surely. No one would be able to earn their Pipes in such an environment. The crowd looked up at him with blank faces, and he nearly screamed in frustration. Ignoring them, he started walking around the stage, pulling back curtains and shoving random stuff aside in an effort to find the unseen musician. They had to be here somewhere! “There’s someone playing music!” he called down to the audience as he searched. “They’re trying to mess up my playing, make sure I don’t get the Pipes!” They must be outside, he realized, that would be why they hadn’t stopped playing when he did. As he started to walk down the steps, another musician - Pipes pinned to her dress, he noted resentfully - stepped in his way. “Come on, move! I need to catch them before they get away!” He tried to shove her aside, but she didn’t let him by. “Ryykal,” she said gently. “There is no music.” “Of course there is, I can hear it! Let me by!” Ryykal struggled against the woman, nearly screaming. But there was no music, and all that the crowd saw was a young man with wild eyes screaming at the air. He was admitted to the Crockery later that day. Ryykal Ladzo (Striker) went insane! Bard was attacked but saved! Nethwyl Nox (Bard) was brought on the Horns and found guilty of Undignified Mischief! Leo (Lopen) was brought on the Horns, but the charges were dropped! These students were elevated: Maern (Xino), Catalan (Coda), Shard (Experience), Amila Tays (Zillah), Arael Solon (Araris), Rath, Traelynn Weeks (Kynedath), Knighter Nune (Rover), Nethwyl Nox (Bard) Term 3 Month 1 has now begun! The month will end on 9 May at 4 PM PDT (in a little less than 44 hours). Clarifications If you are going to Imre, you can still attend the University. If you've already paid tuition for the term, and you go to Imre Month 2 of the term, please do not mark N for the University for Month 2. Please do not fill in blacked-out boxes on your player spreadsheet. If there are boxes blacked-out and you're pretty sure they shouldn't be, let us know so we can take a look at it. I know some of the conditional formatting in the sheets (particularly the formatting for the action periods) got messed up. I don't have time right now to go through 27 sheets to fix it right now, but if you report it as it affects you, we'll fix it. The EP formatting should be (mostly) correct. If a box is blacked out in EP, do not fill it in. (The mostly is because right now, Re'lar isn't taking away an EP, but that's actually in your favor until I fix it). If you have a question for us or would like us to do an official vote count, please tag us. Otherwise, we might not see the request until we're counting posts after rollover (sorry about that, whoever asked last night. Oops >> ).
  14. Term 2 Month 2 - One Short Day The residents of the Windy Tower woke to song: a haunting, wistful melody that none of them had ever heard. It floated through the air like a gentle wind, and even students across the University caught snatches of it here and there. The singing continued erratically through most of the morning, falling silent and picking up again apparently at random. Students passing by the building smiled at its beauty, but shivered a little too, even if they couldn’t have said why. Those students also noticed something else: hanging from one of the windows were a few long strings with what looked like paper birds tied to them. They were all different colors, bright and beautifully crafted. When the wind picked up, it almost seemed like a flock of birds flitting about - but when the wind died again the birds fell like stones to hang in a misshapen lump against the wall. No one knew anything more than that until just after noon, when Caia Iren finally ran out of string. She emerged into the common room of the inn, still singing, with a basket of paper birds on her arm. Only the innkeeper was there at that time of day, an old matronly woman, who saw a girl still clad in her nightgown, barefoot, face alight with a distant joy. “Lass, are you alright?” the innkeeper asked. “And she danced about the faerie-ring with flowers in her crown,” Caia sang, and presented a paper bird to the innkeeper. She took it with a bemused smile, and Caia curtsied, still singing. “But faeries are not friendly folk, be careful lest you drown...” And before the innkeeper knew it, Caia stepped out into the street. There was almost a dance to her steps, a light grace that made her seem as if she were floating as high as the birds she carried. The streets were still covered with a light layer of snow, but she seemed not to even notice the cold on her bare feet. So Caia danced towards the University, giving birds to anyone she saw. Sometimes she walked in silence, with an absent smile on her face. Other times she sang a high lilting tune that shivered in the air. “The ribbon of moonlight circles the sky, with rainbow wreath and wandering beam...” Her classmates couldn’t recall when last they’d seen her, and she didn’t seem to recognize them. The Master Physicker shrugged and said she seemed in fine health, and he could do nothing for her. She was brought to the Crockery later that day. Caia Irèn (Lumgol) went insane! Vol (Devotary) went on the Horns and was found guilty of Undignified Mischief! Amila Tays (Zillah) went on the Horns and was found guilty of Reckless Use of Sympathy! The following students were elevated: Bryn Aria (Burnt Spaghetti), Evelyn Bryen (DeTess), Kendel (Elkanah), Straw Altiora (Straw), Lord Silberfarben, Shard (Experience), Ugfal the Three-Handed (Stink), Lin Wa (Walin), Nethwyl Nox (Bard)! Remember to get your lodging in. You will end up on the Streets otherwise. The term will end at 4pm PDT on May 7. Have fun!
  15. PMs will be slightly delayed. Some of the formulas pulling info for the PMs are referencing the wrong areas. We'll fix it shortly and get the PMs sent out / fix the ones already sent.
  16. To spectate the championships this year, we'll have another doc like the first year we played. If you'd like a link to the spectator doc, let me know and I'll send you the link.
  17. The poll is up. We'll close it in about a week - on April 25th.
