I'd like to submit on Monday, if that works.

If he's both the beggar and Thaidakar, I don't see why he would be at the feast. If Ishar is Thaidakar using the beggar as a disguise to get into the feast, that would make a little more sense, but only a little bit. There's still the question of why. He's gotta have other people he could send in there, rather than putting himself at so much risk. There's really only two possibilities I can think of for why he would be there. One, he had an assassination plot in the works, but was beaten to the punch by the Parshendi. Or two, he knew about the Parshendi's assassination plot somehow, and wanted to be there when it happened. But I don't like either of those reasons, based on what little we know about Thaidakar. Ishar's either the beggar or Thaidakar (or possibly neither, but I really think he's one of those two, and I'm leaning more toward Thaidakar), but he's not both.

Questions and Nearly Baseless Musing
little wilson replied to Lord Of Nothing's topic in Stormlight Archive
In answer to the first question, I agree with Kurkistan. Something to do with the Ideals of the KR. As for the musing. This is going to take some explanation. First, I think the Blades are connected to both the Physical and the Spiritual Realms, especially in relation to the individual holding the Blade. The Shardblade is in the Spiritual Realm when not in the Physical one, connected to the individual's spiritweb. Like what Kurkistan says. But when Summoned, it transverses between the two, going from the person's Spiritual connection with the Spiritual Realm, to their Physical connection with the Physical Realm. Both Spiritual and Physical aspects of the person must be present for the Shardblade to be Summoned successfully. Most cases, this wouldn't matter, because when does a person's Spiritual and Physical self become separated? That doesn't happen. Except in the case of Dalinar. The Blade doesn't come to Dalinar in the vision because the person whose Physical he is connected with is not connected with his Shardblade. At the same time, the Shardblade wouldn't come to his Physical self, because his Spiritual self isn't there. It's elsewhere. I'm gonna take this one step further and say that if Dalinar was in a vision where he was a Knight Radiant, he wouldn't be able to Summon that Radiant's Blade, because his Spiritual self is not connected to the same Blade that the Physical one is. Does that make sense? And all this talk about the Physical and Spiritual in reference to the visions makes me wonder about something else along this same line. How much control does Dalinar have in these visions, over the people he is connected to Spiritually, yet controlling Physically? Is he changing history, or is history only being bent (meaning others react to his actions and words, but when the vision ends, things go bounce back and are redone without Dalinar's influence)? For example, did Heb really fight the Midnight Essence? Or did he, Taffa, and Seeli all die, like I'm sure would've happened if Dalinar hadn't been there to fight them off? Did Karm really give Nohadon the advice to write a book? If Heb and Karm both really did that, do they remember? Were their Spiritual selves riding alongside Dalinar's? Or would it be some black-out period where their Spiritual self left their body and then when it returns upon Dalinar's vacating of it, they find out what they did? On a side-note, I'm not sure which of those would be more weird. Heb watching himself kick Midnight Essence butt, yet not knowing how he's doing such things, or Heb finding out later that he was such a good fighter that a Knight Radiant invited him to Urithiru.... I would think that he wouldn't have control over history like that, even though he's able to control a past person's actions. And yet, maybe he did. I mean, everything he did was pretty trivial, that it wouldn't really matter if he actually changed anything. The only thing that would matter is if that advice is what made Nohadon write the Way of Kings later in life. But he probably didn't even remember that advice when he got around to writing it. -
Oh, I actually didn't even think about Thaidakar. I don't know why, because both times Restares' name comes up, Thaidakar's is right near it. That's a good possibility. However, I don't think Restares is Taravangian. I have nothing to base my belief on, just personal opinion. I think Taravangian prefers to be anonymous (not a secret identity) when he's undercover, like he did with Szeth. Might Restares be one of Taravangian's pawns? I suppose. But I doubt it. I honestly have no idea what to think of Restares. Which is why he fascinates me so. Regardless, I think Thaidakar is a very good possibility for Ishar. I shall have to start paying attention to the Herald Headings. I'm actually reading the book again (I just finished it, but as I was reading it at work, I ended up starting to read it out-loud to a coworker. We're only about 200 pages in and everything thus far is very fresh in my mind after to read-throughs in less than 3 weeks), so it shouldn't be too hard for me to find the necessary info.

I had a friend once describe me as being quiet, meek, and psycho. I think his description is very apt. To those who don't know me or have just met me, I seem introverted. However, that changes as I become comfortable around a person. I become...well. Psycho, to use his word. I think 'enthusiastic' or a synonym would be better. Of course, I'm basing this off how people saw me a year ago. And I've changed a lot in the last year, so maybe it's less quiet and meek. And a softened psycho. Or something.

That does make sense. The only real issues I have with it are in-world issues. I mean, what kind of scholar denounces the existence of a city based on that kind of evidence? "Oh, we can't find the ancient city of Urithiru, so it must not exist, because we have found all of these other ancient cities." Never mind that those scholars have access to texts that we as readers do not. And we as readers have deduced that Urithiru was probably on a pretty inaccessible mountaintop. But I guess the scholars just go "No, we're not listening! It couldn't possibly be on a mountaintop! I don't care if we haven't checked each and every mountaintop. It doesn't exist! "....I wonder if said scholars like being proven wrong....

I kind of think that same thing. That's why I really don't think Urithiru was in Shin Kak Nish. Because it's way too far away from Alethela. And at one point, I also thought the Horneater Peaks, the western edge of them that isn't in Alethela, because I noticed exactly what you did--that they're the western border of Alethela. But then I started thinking about how Valhav is a Vorin Kingdom, and not just A Vorin Kingdom, it's the most prominent Vorin Kingdom. Or at least it's present-day manifestation of Jah Keved is. And Vorinism preaches that Urithiru is a myth and that the Knights Radiant are to be hated. However, as I was just typing that out, another possibility occurred to me. Maybe Vorinism hates them so much because they take a personal offense to it--because Urithiru was in Valhav, a Vorin kingdom. Although that wouldn't explain why they claim it's a myth. Wouldn't they know that it's not? Because they would know where it is?

*Slight* thread necromancy here, but this is an interesting topic, so I don't feel at all bad about it. Thus far, we've been picking out Heralds who've made appearances, and Brandon also states that there are some have been mentioned but not appeared. There are two names in particular that I can think of that have been mentioned that have an oddity to them I believe the Herald-mentions would have. One is Restares. I am FASCINATED by him, even though his name has only come up twice. There is definitely something going on there. He's someone of importance--otherwise he would never have been an option for the one behind Gavilar's assassination, and especially not the second name thrown out. And then he's also the mastermind behind the murder of Kaladin's squad, and Amaram's claiming of the Shards. Now, why a Herald would get involved in something like either of these is beyond me. But he's not the only Herald (if he is indeed a Herald, as I think he could be) doing nefarious/semi-nefarious things. Shallash is kind of as well. The other name that's struck an oddity is the Shin female scholar--Shauka-daughter-Hasweth. Could've been a name this particular Herald went by a few thousand years ago, when she disguised herself as a Shin scholar and wrote a philosophy book. Now, maybe Shauka-daughter-Hasweth was just an oddity among her people when she lived and considering her to be a Herald is preposterous. Maybe she's dead now. It was thousands of years ago. And if she is, then clearly she's not a Herald. And even if she is a Herald, and therefore not dead, she's surely not going by the name of Shauka-daughter-Hasweth. But she's probably still with the Shin. I think it's an idea. And we're severely lacking on guesses on the female Herald side of things. Obviously, I have nothing to back up either of these. I'm just throwing them out there as having fulfilled Brandon's mention of some Heralds that have been mentioned but not seen. These are both probably going to prove wrong. But maybe not....maybe Restares will be a Herald. Or maybe a Herald with the Shin will reveal herself, and we'll know she's been with the Shin for a very long time. Who knows....Just a couple ideas.

I think the amnesia is the curse. I also think the boon he asked for had something to do with his jealousy at Gavilar, and his wanting to kill Gavilar and take his throne. Maybe the boon he asked for was to end his envy/re-spark his love for his brother? I think it fits. For one, Dalinar doesn't want to think or talk about that day when he very nearly killed Gavilar. It was 10 years ago, so you'd think the pain of that day would've worn out a little bit. Unless he did something else on that same day, like that was the start of his quest to seek the Nightwatcher. He needed to get away from his brother before he did something, and he wanted to make sure and protect his brother from himself. The only way to be certain of that protection was to have the Nightwatcher grant it. If that's the case, it would make sense, since Gavilar is family, for her to curse him in a way that is also family-oriented. His wife is already dead. To protect his brother, he needs to forget his wife.

What 1DanielHolm said is true, but in case you were still curious about what the book says, all it says is this: So no definitive answer concerning exactly how long his beard grew. Shinovar is a Silver Kingdom. It just doesn't have the name Shinovar. Shin Kak Nish. And, in theory, it could've been a Vorin kingdom. Shallan's history books talk about the 5 Vorin kindgoms, and she's only familiar with four--Jah Keved (Valhav), Alethkar (Alethela), Kharbranth (Thalath), and Natanatan. Of course, geographically, it would make the most sense for the fifth Vorin kindgom to be Rishir as opposed to jumping across the entire continent to Shin Kak Nish, but who knows? And anyway, I don't recall anywhere that says that Urithiru had to've been built in a Vorin kindgom...Am I just forgetting something (I just BARELY read the book for the second time, and I'll admit that I am far, far behind on Brandon's revelations for the Stormlight Archive), or is this just a theory that Urithiru needs to be in a Vorin kingdom? If anything, I would think it wouldn't be in a Vorin kingdom, since Vorinism seems to claim so heavily that Urithiru is a myth. This. Before I read this, I agreed about the mountains near The Valley, because I was thinking southern Sela Tales. Which is that mountain range. Your reasoning for it being near The Valley, however, makes a lot of sense. People DO avoid it, and Vorinism preaches against it, since it's the Old Magic. And what else do we know Vorinism preaches against? The Knights Radiant, perhaps? Not that that means anything, because a lot of people look down on the KR, regardless of whether they are Vorin or not. But I do think it's a very strong possibility. Even if we don't know why it would be the place 'nearest to Honor.' Anyway, I think it's obvious that Urithiru will need to be discovered at some point. The Dawnchant will help with that, thanks to Dalinar....Jasnah's going to have a lot of studying and translation to do when she gets back to the Shattered Plains. I also think that some of those lost Blades and Plate are in Urithiru. Not all of them, by any means. I definitely think there are multiple groups hoarding the Blades and Plate, but some of them will have been abandoned in Urithiru, and I personally think that that's where Kaladin will pick up his. I think so far, any Plates or Blade he has a chance of getting will be rejected by him for the same reason the others were--he saw them kill people that he loved. Even Dalinar's Blade seemed wrong to Syl, and that was a Blade held in the hands of an honorable man. I think he'll have to get a more 'untainted' Blade. And Plate, if he goes for Plate. I don't see why he wouldn't, though. Szeth says it messes with his ability to use the Lashings, but that clearly can't be the case for the Knights Radiant. They just need to find a way to light them back up. Maybe that's what Syl felt was wrong....

Theory: The Seventeenth Shard are separate
little wilson replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I realize I'm two years late in saying this, but Chaos, you never took my powers from me. I still hold Preservation. One need only look to the TWG archives at my title to see proof of what I say. (Did you see what I did there?)...Hm. Maybe I should change my title here to reflect such truths. Seems only right. Also, I like this idea of us being the fabled 17th Shard. World-hoppers extraordinaire. Yes. Makes perfect sense. Also also, what happens when the PBA gets Hoid's letter and alerts Galladon, Demoux, and He-Who-We-Know-Not-The-Name-Of that they're chasing a fake trail? Perhaps this is why he left the Shattered Plains so suddenly. To set a new false trail, so those looking for him won't find where he really truly is.... -
What would YOU choose?
little wilson replied to Glaring at the Survivor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'm going worldhopping. Think I might collect as many Breaths as I can, maybe track down Hoid and grab that Lerasium bead, become an Allomancer...and since I'm on earth now, I must have figured out how to worldhop from earth so I should be able to get back. And with both those new skills, and/or whatever else I acquire during my worldhopping greatness, I think making a few billion should be easy... -
Greetings from an old, but long-gone, member....
little wilson posted a topic in Introduce Yourself!
Hello all. For those of you who don't know me (which will be most of you), I used to be a regular on TWG. For about a year or two. And then when TWG got hacked, I never really did get into this, past creating an account and lurking for a very short period of time. The biggest reason I've returned is for Reading Excuses. Yes, I'm a writer. Although for the last year or more, I wasn't so good at the "writing" part of writing.... Anyway. To really introduce myself, my name is Kendra. I'm from Southern Idaho. I graduated last year with a Bachelor's in English from BYU-Idaho in Rexburg. My emphasis was Creative Writing, and my minor was International Studies. I love to write, read, and I LOVE to travel. I've already been to Europe once on a 25-day tour, and although it was too short, it was just long enough to give me a taste and want to go back. And go many other places besides. That was 3 years ago, and I have no idea when my funds will be enough to make traveling a possibility. I'm sarcastic, mischievous, smart, and funny. Or at least I like to think that I'm all of those things. Plus creative. I get addicted to things easily....although maybe "addicted" is not the appropriate word. I just show my enthusiasm for certain things to an over-abundance, and so it appears to those few people I surround myself with that I am addicted. Like Mountain Dew. And ice cream. And tv shows like Supernatural and The Mentalist. However, I would say the only thing I am *truly* addicted to is chocolate. And not because I'm female. It's simply because chocolate is so darn good. And now that I've shared FAR more about me than any of you really cared to know (assuming you read all of it), I'll just say "Hi" again, and that I'll be seeing you around these forums. Maybe....if you're in RE. Or whatever. -
Really? The similarity was unintentional, I assure you. While my memory may be good, it's not that good, especially since I can't use TWG as a reference... Personally, it reminded me of Independence Day. Actually, not just reminded. I couldn't think of a title, and then that scene suddenly popped into my head, and I rolled with it.

No. I gave up trying to find out what happened to Hoid's Compendium quite a while ago. I found out about here because Brandon linked to it on his Facebook status, for the WoK typos. It's a good thing Facebook showed that status (cuz it doesn't always for Brandon's, I've noticed), and that I decided to follow the link....

Hello again, most of you....and simply hello to those who I don't know. I am Kendra. I am from TWG. I just found this site, and I feel very unobservant for my lack of knowledge of its existence. This is what I get for taking 18 credits this semester at school. Well, that and a lot of stress, but I don't talk about that....much. I am 23, and I'm a senior in college...obviously, because if I was a senior in high school that would just be sad.... Anyway. Question. What exactly happened to TWG (assuming anyone really knows)? And when? Because up until about a month ago, I didn't know anything was up, and then I went to rejoin the discussions and...well. You all know what I found. I was more than minorly disappointed.

Chris, you're not the only one who's been out of the loop....Yet obviously, you're still more connected to it than I am. Because I just found out about this site. Also, I'd been wondering what happened to Hoid's Compendium...
