  1. CrankShaft leaned back on his bar stool, a can of what appeared to be engine oil in his hand. "Me? I was in the clink back in England, whats now the New British Empire, when my powers came to me. 'Course I broke out as soon as I realised what I could do and thought i'd travel around a bit, see the world y'know? It's not like anyone can stop me going places now. I've been exploring the fractured states for a couple of years now, an Epic down south mentioned this place and the fights so I thought it'd be fun to give it a look." CrankShaft took a sip from the can he was holding. "Greece sounds interesting though. Maybe i'll visit when I get round to Europe, though I doubt that'll be anytime soon, there's so much to see here in the states."

  2. Crankshaft eyed the newcomer standing at the bar. The man seemed to be wearing interesting collection of machinery on his person, even if some of it did look a bit old fashioned. That kind of gear could come in useful. Excusing himself from IronForge for a moment Crankshaft strode over to where the man, Steampunk, was standing.

"Alright mate?" Grinned Crankshaft, slapping Steampunk on the back of his alto-suit playfully. "Here for the fights too are yah? Don't suppose you know where me and my mate IronForge over there can sign up do you?."

As he said this Crankshaft spotted a pile of application forms sitting at the bar. "Ah nevermind mate, I got it" He said, grabbing a form and scrawling his details onto it with a mechanical pencil that had suddenly replaced one of his fingers. After handing the form to one of the bartenders he turned back to Steampunk.

"I dunno about you mate but i'm parched. How about a drink?" Crankshaft said amicably, one of his hands glowing before being replaced by a Mobile "Don't worry, i'm paying."

  3. "Ta for the coat mate," Crankshaft said, shrugging on the trenchcoat and buttoning up the front, "I've no clue who this Think-Tanks is though. I've only just arrived in town meself to be honest." Checking the coat to make sure everything was covered Crankshaft continued, "But if he'd be able to give me some info on this town then i'd like to chat with him as well."

  4. The Woman tending the bar was giving Crankshaft a very dirty glare. Clearly she was an Epic herself or else a very brave vanilla. Most of the other bar patrons were trying very hard not to stare at his lack of clothes, after all if an Epic wanted to walk around naked there wasn't much vanillas could do to stop him. Crankshaft was about to ask the Bartender for directions to the nearest clothes store when he noticed an Epic in a trenchcoat speaking with a waiter. Perfect, thought Crankshaft, hopping off his stall and making his way towards the Epic calling himself IronForge. "Excuse me mate," said Crankshaft, giving a little wave to get the mans attention "but I don't suppose I could borrow your coat for a bit? It looks just my size."

Yeah I did mention that he could arrive either in the morning (Post-time skip) or at night.
@Screwloose which would you prefer Crankshaft to arrive at? I didn't see anything in the post indicating one way or the other.

Mornings fine if that keeps things moving. I wasn't quite sure what time it was supposed to be at that point.

  6. The small dirt bike rolling into Salem looked innocent enough, if you discounted the fact it had no rider, as well as the fact that it appeared to have human eyes and ears growing out of the front. In fact the Bike looked downright out of place. The bike slowed to a halt outside what  looked like a local bar, glowed and was gone. In its place stood a man, with gangly limbs, messy hair and no clothes.

"Sparks that was a long ride!" Crankshaft said, Stretching "I forgot how cramped being a bike gets after a while." Passers by were beginning to stare, although the vanillas were trying to be a bit more discreet about it. Guess they must not get many new faces around here, he thought. He glanced around. There really were a lot of people staring at him. Crankshaft glanced down at himself Ah, I forgot that I can't transform my clothes, I really liked that jacket too. Crankshaft scratched his head a moment, shrugged and then strode into the bar.

  7. Salem

    Spoiler

    Epic Name: Crankshaft

    Actual Name: James Wayman

    Age: 28

    Nationality: British

Appearance: Fairly tall and gangly, Messy, Dirty Blond Hair (Looks a lot like Junkrat from Overwatch). Normally wears a biker jacket over tight fitting shorts and t-shirt (To prevent them getting caught in something when he's using his powers.

Primary Power: Can transform body parts (or his entire body) into pieces of machinery. He can not turn into anything much larger than himself (something the size of a motorbike is about the biggest he can go) and has to have touched the object he wants to transform into (so no motivator based technology or other rare items). Machinery formed from him also draws its power from him, meaning he generally has to eat a lot to fuel his powers.

Secondary Powers: Enhanced strength and durability, allowing him to use machines formed from him without risk of injury. Can also ingest and metabolise fossil fuels, although this may be caused by his primary power transforming his digestive system.

Personality: Crankshaft is a Carefree Wanderer. He goes wherever he wants with no regard to the consequences. He's generally rather relaxed for an Epic, often chatting with Epics and Regular humans alike (Not that he actually cares about them, he just likes learning new things). The only time he really shows anger is when someone gets in his way or tries to prevent him going somewhere. Those who do so are normally found spread across several dumpsters, with wounds from a variety of power tools.

Pre Calamity: James ran away from home at the age of 15 and spent the next few years wandering and stealing to survive. By the time Calamity rose he was in prison for multiple charges of theft and assault. During his Rending Crankshaft destroyed most of the prison and walked free, deciding he would go on the roadtrip to end all road trips.

    Spoiler

"Hey pal, that there is our Gas" Said the larger of the two goons, brandishing his rifle. "Ah think maybe ya should be handing it over, real fast like"

Crankshaft eyed the weapon, reclining back in his chair. "Oh, i'm sorry mate. I've just got a bit of a thirst so i'll be taking a bit for myself." Crankshaft punctuated the statement by taking a swig from the gas can he was holding.

"Are you taunting me boy!? ARE YA!?" The larger goon yelled, pressing his rifle against Crankshafts head. A sudden flash of green and the weapon was cut in two by the hydraulic claw that had replaced Crankshaft's right arm. The goon staggered back in surprise.

"Oh sparks" gasped the smaller goon "an Epic, we've attacked a sparking Epic."

"Get it together ya Slontze, there's no way this guys an Ep..." Big goons words were cut off, along with his head, by the whirr of a chainsaw.

"Oh godohgodohgod" whimpered the remaining goon. The revving of the chainsaw drowned out the rest of his screams.

Ten minutes later Crankshaft emerged from the gas station, the last of the blood washed off. "Now, where to next?" He mused, examining a map. "I think this Salem place looks interesting."

Yeah of course, I'd recommend trying to come up with a slight difference to the powerset (Something added, tweaked or an interesting quirk) but other than that I don't see any problems.

Thanks. I've got a couple of ideas for complementry powers, i'll write up a bio and post it a bit later.

Certainly is, I'm just about to timejump it to morning actually so Arena fights are back on! :D
Scrapyard? He was a minor Epic so I didn't put him in the thread but yeah he was in Portland for a bit then I think he died.

In that case would it be alright to create an epic with similar powers under a different name?

  10. Hi, i'd like to join the salem thread if possible. I was also wondering if someone's already claimed the Scrapheap powers from the google doc? Wasn't quite sure since it's in the claimed section but there's nothing saying who claimed it and I couldn't see an epic with those powers in the Epics of Oregon thread. Thanks.

  11. More stuff for the Mistborn section:

A maze/ potholing course based on the Pits of Hathsin (with foam/ rubber crystals) or alternatively panning for Atium.

As a haunted house type thing: A tour of the the Iron Ministry and The Lord Rulers palace, visiting the Inquistor creation areas and Ruins prison. Who knows, visitors may even get a couple of spikes as a souvenir.

  12. Screwloose strolled into the pub, drawing odd looks from the few coinshots sitting inside, and perched himself on a bar stool, placing the case he had been carrying carefully by his feet.

"Pint of Old Ironeyes special if you please." Spotting Venture arguing with someone he waves. "Afternoon Ven, you're looking decidedly less dead than last time I saw you."

  13. "I'm an Epic who thinks like a Reckoner. Someone who watched his best friend lose themselves to their own power and destroy everything they aimed to protect. I've hunted down Epic after Epic to keep it from happening again, building weapons to fight them along the way. And then I nearly went and did it myself."

Screwloose smirked "As it turns out though the Epics were nothing compared to the Shardblessed. At least Calamity never intervenes directly."

Is there a Canon term for Investiture users other than Investiture users?

  14. "Yeah, I am" said Screwloose, looking around awkwardly "Listen Winter about what happened.. I'm sorry. Normally these" He gestured to his goggles "keep me from going too far but they got damaged in the fight. Still that's not really an excuse for attacking you."

Screwloose handed an envelope to Winter, looking away as she glanced inside. Contained within was a white feather, its edges slightly burnt.  "You're my leader, and the closest thing to a friend I have left, so I want you to have this in case I loose myself again.  I'm sure you know how it works. Just be careful with it, it's the last one left."
