  1. Snoopy, there isn't anyone stranger than you. Molly, your instinct to avoid the cookies is well founded. Welcome to the forum! Have some upvotes.
  2. Welcome to the forum! I wouldn't take any of those cookies, if I were you. They've got a rusty aftertaste... Have some upvotes!
  3. I personally have nothing against Surgebinders in and of themselves. The bond is mutually beneficial to both individuals, although it does taint a person's sDNA with foreign Investiture. Of course, one could argue that every person's soul is "Invested" to some degree. Is a Mistborn or an Awakener really all that different from one of us? Sure, they have more Investiture, but it isn't foreign, per se. Of course, the counterpoint with Awakeners is that they've taken hundreds of souls from other human beings, which clearly goes against our tenets. I can't really argue with that, I suppose. My personal view is that Investiture is a tool that should be used for the benefit of all, but when reserved to a select few, it quickly leads to corrupt leaders and an oppressed populace. Hence my love of fabrials and other Invested technology, which is available for all of us. However, our leader's opinions on the matter are clear.
  4. All I want is to Drink root beer to excess, and Write awful Haiku Now I must be off There is french toast to be had, And homework to do.
  5. Exactly. And The Final Problem/The Reichenbach Fall. If Curiosity doesn't return with picture and question, would someone else care to post a new question?
  6. There's one more staring you right in the face, and you'll complete the full five.
  7. Just stumbled across this place. I don't usually spend a lot of time in Clans and Guilds, but who doesn't like root beer? I'm willing to fight for the position of Root Beer Bard. Haiku's not so hard. Many may try their hand, but Mine are always best.
  8. If you click "Quote", found directly below a post's reputation, it will copy the text directly into your reply, along with the date and time.
  9. Have some upvotes for being clever, intelligent, and well-informed. I'd recommend taking a look at the Investiture-Challenged Awareness Society, which is dedicated to the study of Investiture in all forms, although we have a particular dedication to the field of Invested technology. The one drawback is that we're a bit... anti-Investiture. Sounds weird, given that we're scholars on the subject. Take a look at our thread and you'll see what I mean.
  10. Apologies, Skaa. I misread some important lines in your theory, which changed the meaning drastically.
  11. Skaa, your proposed method of Scadrian Technology is interesting, but I have one issue with it. (Emphasis mine) Link If Allomancers are so rare, how could technology that requires an Allomancer to be present have become practical in their society?
  12. This isn't even remotely in order. 1. Castle in the Sky 2. Howl's Moving Castle 3. Spirited Away 4. Kiki's Delivery Service 5. Arrietty 6. The Wind Rises 7. My Neighbor Totoro 8. Princess Mononoke 9. The Cat Returns 10. Grave of the Fireflies 11. Ponyo 12. Tales from Earthsea 13. From Up on Poppy Hill 14. When Marnie Was There 15. Only Yesterday 16. Whisper of the Heart 17. Tales of Princess Kaguya 18. Porco Rosso 19. Pom Poko 20. My Neighbors the Yamadas And the bonus question was indeed Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. The new question should be easier. Name five Sherlock Holmes adventures and their BBC Sherlock equivalents.
  13. EDIT: Sorry about the double post, didn't mean to do that.
  14. But Hoid would beat them all. I guess you're right, though. If we aren't counting Pulsers as time travelers, we probably shouldn't count Hoid either. EDIT: By the way, if anyone can get fifteen Studio Ghibli films, I'll count that.
  15. The difficulty confronting us in studying the field of Allomantic Technology is that there's just so much we don't understand. Theorizing is great and all, but we can't really get anywhere without at least some information. For example, we know that it's theoretically possible to infuse a spike with Mist. What we don't know is whether that's what Southern Scadrial uses in their Allomantic Technology, and we have nothing to go on as to the properties such a spike would have. We just don't have enough data.
  16. I like the roleplaying. Although, I don't as of yet have a character. I think it's possible to do both the roleplaying and the discussion. Some of the discussing may need to be done out of character, but other than that it should work to continue both.
  17. True, but I figured at the very least you guys could get all the Miyazakis. I dunno, maybe I'm just partial to Miyazaki, but his films have always been the most classic of Studio Ghibli to me.
  18. You're still missing a couple Miyazakis. My original question was going to be only fifteen, so I might give it to you if you get a couple more.
  19. 1. The Doctor 2. The Master 3. Captain Jack Harkness 4. Hoid (Forward, at least) 5. River Song 6. Meg (Wrinkle in Time) 7. Hermione Granger 8. JB (The Missing Series) 9. Marty Mcfly 10. Captain Kirk 11. Spock (Remember the episode where they go back and save the whales? It totally counts.) 12. Jack (Magic Tree House) 13. Annie (Magic Tree House) 14. Jonah (Missing Series) 15. The Supreme Being (Time Bandits) Name all twenty films released by Studio Ghibli. EDIT: Bonus points if you get the one they released before they were officially founded.
  20. Storm it, I could've gotten that one. Eilemelie didn't even mention any of the Mesopotamian civilizations... Ah well. Metal bands? I could probably name one... maybe. Although it'd probably count as "hard rock" or somesuch.
  21. The Dark Alley: We do what we must because we can For the good of all of us. Except the ones who are dead. But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of spikes. The Hemalurgy gets done, and you make a Metalborn For the people who are Still Alive.
  22. So who all has expressed interest in participating? I'll commit to joining if this gets off the ground, assuming time constraints don't get in the way too much. I would volunteer to DM, but I'm already running one campaign at the moment, so I'll leave that up to someone else.
  23. I doubt it. Things that seem to cancel out Investiture are built into the magic systems of the worlds, especially Aluminum. With Aluminum, it's one of the sixteen Allomantic metals, and Allomancy is a product of Shardic Investiture on Scadrial, which originated with Adonalsium. But a Magic System that uses such a similar method for accessing the focus, and also has extremely similar effects? I'm not sure. With the different forms of Lightweaving, they all seem to be very similar sets of abilities, but with very different focuses. Surgebinder Lightweaving uses a Spren focus, and is fueled by Stormlight, AonDor uses Aons as a focus and is fueled by the Dor. That reminds me. Do we have a WoB on whether Hoid's Feruchemy uses metals or some other focus? I assumed it just normal Scadrian Feruchemy, but I recently came across something that seemed to indicate he might not even be using metalminds at all.
  24. You sure? I'm just as curious as the rest of us what the Hemalurgic properties of Lerasium are, but I'd rather not be on the pointy end of such a... hands-on method of experimentation, if you know what I mean.
  25. I would like to join. I will try my best to abide by the two Rules, although I may not have enough time for the moment to publish my own theories.
