  1. I agree with Ink, it's too risky unless the chrysalis was close enough to the Alethi side it was a guaranteed thing I don't see an Alethi risking it. They do however risk something similar when the Chasmfiend is close enough. i.e. the hunt they go on. I think essentially they would only do something like that if the Chasmfiend was close enough to make a parade out of the affair. I don't see them wanted to extend out too far and risk losing Shards.

  2. Right, but when I asked the question I was careful about the way I phrased it. The exact question I asked was, "If you left Shardplate out in a Highstorm, would the Plate itself, not the the gemstones used to power it, become infused with Stormlight." So my question and his response were talking about the Plate specifically.

  3. Thanks! I'm Miyabi I've been around since... well since just after Elantris was published and we were on the old forums. lol. I used to be fairly close with the admins around here and was helping with all this stuff in the beginning, but life got too crazy.

The only thing now is to figure out if this is a red herring comment or if there is some validity to it.

  4. In reality reading Dragonsteel isn't too much worth the effort in its current state for a few reasons. ((And I'll try to avoid any type of spoiler here))

    1) It was written a long time ago and is very, very rough.

    2) More than a couple things were cannibalized from it and moved to other books.

    3) There are some things which could be considered spoilers for future books, but they are so likely to change in such a magnitude that it would just be more of a distraction as you read other things that it would be bothersome.

E.G. - (Note both examples may be slightly off as I read Dragonsteel probably 6 years ago and my memory of its exact text is foggy) The Shattered Plains and the bridge crews were a huge part of the book, much as they are in the The Way of King. However, the things that appeared on the plains the people wanted to acquire were very different.

There also (This is the part where my memory is foggy) was something similar in nature to Soulcasting, but it was quite a bit different. Similar in a way that it appears that Soulcasting may have originated from the idea, but different enough it might be its own system of magic.

It also speaks much about Hoid, but the thins you learn about him could be right on or they could be extremely far off at this point.

There is also the fact, which has been mentioned in previous posts, that it is not the first book in the series it belongs to, but is a few books down the road, so much of the story which sets up for the book is missing.

Really it is not worth the effort to find and read as it will be so overtly distracting that it could potentially ruin further reading experiences.

  5. I went to a signing a week or so ago in Idaho Falls. While there I asked Brandon a question about Shardplate. I asked if it were left out in a Highstorm in the Plate itself would become infused with Stormlight. Brandon responded with one of his cryptic answers saying:

"No, the Plate would not become infused with Stormlight. Now, you can take that to mean it can't hold Stormlight or that it already has Stormlight locked away inside it."

I know it's been a while since I've been around, but I felt this should be shared.

  6. Or maybe just a kind of Special Edition to the books with the Annotations in them. If not right after a chapter, then in the back. That would be cool. I would so buy that.

That's what I was talking about. Like give it really large side margins so that you can put the annotations out there. They've done it with other books before. I think it would be an excellent read if you've already read the books through once.

  7. I would like to announce that his name is Rubik.... and it's Rubik's cube. When he made it, he made it of all wood, and deemed it impossible to solve, except by chance.

EDIT:: Oh also that I'm dating Joey again. =] We've been off for .. uhm, since I lived in CT... so 5 years almost and on for those of you who don't know, but it's always been for good reasons (which would be silly to explain here, I guess if you want to know you could PM me.) But I thought this was good to share, because he actually wants a long term committed relationship now.
