I'm a 20 year-old straight male with a poster of David Tennant in my room. So yeah, I'm a fan. My favorite episode is Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead because it's so sad, and as we know, sad is happy for deep people.

Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss
Newan replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I actually did write a second post. I took a Araris's post about why he was voting for Hero and started breaking down why its motivations were conflicting and didn't make sense, and that's why I was voting for him. Then as I was finishing writing my post, I realized that Araris's post did make sense after all, and that I was talking out of my chull. So I didn't submit it. I'm sorry I wasn't active yesterday. RL stuff. But I promise that as soon as I find someone who I actually do suspect, I will do my absolute best to live up to my title. -
If that happens, we should make an Epic who can create portals to the Rithmatist universe.

If it comes to it, I would be ok with it. I would rather it wasn't just a random kill to remind us how evil Frequency is, but I'm fine with you being true to your characters, even if it kills mine. I actually only need one to survive. It would be easiest for them if Planeshift and Memori both survived, but not essential. The Fugitives are being upfront with the fact that they are minor epics and that they were meaning to leave the city anyway. So I don't know why Frequency would react like that so soon. Here's an idea for something that could happen. Tell me if it sounds like something your characters would agree to. Frequency: "you should leave this city now" Fugitives: "we want to, but we don't have a car anymore. You guys have skills. You could get us a car. Favor for a favor?" Frequency: "sure. do this: ___" *LATER* Fugitives: "we did this, but not quite how you wanted it to be done" Frequency: "argh I'm so angry"

Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss
Newan replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I am confused as to why there are so many votes on Hero. Could somebody sum it up for me? -
Who else is going? I am! http://brandonsanderson.com/upcoming-events/#5402 I can't tell if the store is selling numbered copies, or if the numbers are just for our place in line. Mysterious Galaxy is kind of a long drive from my house, so I think I'll just call the store at 10:00 a.m. when it opens on Tuesday to get a number. Edit: Also, I accidentally put the date as January 21st in the title of the thread. It's really January 20th. Is it possible to edit the title of a thread? Edit 2: Thanks, mod. Also, I just called Mysterious Galaxy and bought my copy of Firefight! I'm going to be #9 in line.

Is anybody going to the San Diego signing? I just moved home from BYU, and I think this is the biggest thing I'll miss about Utah.

New Fugitives post in the Dalles! Also, Mailliw, if things go south between the two groups, I'm ok with Current Event meeting his demise before they escape the Dalles. The poor guy is kind of obselete at this point.

The van slammed to a stop. The seatbelts were effective, but the jolt still sent pain through Planeshift's body. Lifting the van had taken a heavy toll. As the three epics undid their seatbelts, Planeshift assessed the attack. "Earth control, lightning, and some sort of ability to slice things from a distance," Planeshift hurriedly whispered to the others. He wiped blood from his arm and growled quietly. "Citizens, leaving the Dalles is prohibited," said the one who was probably their leader, "Don't you remember me? Koschei would be disappointed in you cowards." Slontze. Planeshift reached down to pick up a piece of broken glass, but Current Event, who hadn't used his abilities in the past few hours, put a hand on Planeshift's shoulder and gave him a look that said, I know what you're thinking, and it's a bad idea. Planeshift dropped the glass. He rubbed his temples and automatically said to himself, "I'm a simple man with a simple purpose. Don't lose the way." Where did that come from? "Step out of the van and identify yourselves," said the head slontze, "You will return to your homes or to the fighting." The three fugitive epics crawled out of the totaled van, then started walking toward the bad epics. "My friends and I are just passing through this town, so I'm afraid we don't have a home or a fight here. Nor do we remember you or Koschei. My name is Planeshift, and these are Memori and Current Event. Pleased to meet you."

Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss
Newan replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I think that what Eolhondras did was gutsy. I'm in favor of players trying out new strategies. Also the spiked probably wouldn't want to suicide their tineye until the good tineye is dead. -
They could meet if What Happened in Calamityville resumes in October. headcanon: Mobius pulls people from time in a similar manner that Bringer does. The only reason I think of it this way is so that there's possibility we can eventually see Nighthound die in there, and in Portland.

Don't worry, Twi. You weren't being harsh. I was just worried that I had sounded snarky. I swore off emoticons a few years ago, and without a winky face, I worry that my teasing statements might look condescending and mean. I have to work on Bringer's weakness a little bit more. You're right, Voidus. His weakness shouldn't be able to randomly kill him if the reckoners sneak a religious leader into the city. I'll think about this. To those worrying about avoiding necromancy, Bringer isn't returning life to someone who has died. He is moving someone who was still alive forward in time. Totally not the same thing. Hey, what if we did a Google Hangout some time?

I agree. I was just kidding around. I meant that comment to be teasing, not mutinous. I didn't actually plan on bringing any historical figures in as characters. I was thinking about bringing them in as a gag, maybe just to be killed immediately. But I understand your concern. Here is how I will prevent something like this from happening: Weakness: as Bringer nears someone who is worshiped or revered, there is a small chance that when he tries to summon someone, he will instead be summoned to a random location in spacetime. (random location=certain death. Realistically, he would end up in outer space.) This only works for religious figures, but Bringer doesn't really understand the difference between reverence and fear. He won't summon any major historical figures, and he won't even go near Newcago. Who knows? Maybe there are cults who worship Steelheart.

If Lightwards survives the Battle of Oregon, he and Bringer could develop a deeply disturbing business relationship. Once he has brought someone to the present, he doesn't retain any connection to them. He has no control over them, and no way to send them back. They don't gain or lose any memories in the process. He can only summon one person at a time. He can only summon someone if there's space for them in the five foot radius. There isn't a limit to the number of people he can summon. Ooh that would be fun. Plus, their personalities would clash wonderfully. This is also the reason that bringing Julius Ceaser or Ivan the Terrible to the present wouldn't actually cause that much of a disruption. There's no way they would be able to adjust to modern technology and learn the English language quick enough to survive in the Shattered States, much less take over. Oh my gosh. That's horrifying. And Max doesn't even know that the baby is Herod. "Who's been out-Heroded now, huh?" *punt* That. Would be. Awesome. New plan: electric powers for Tesla and Edison, and wotness the epic battle. (Just kidding. We know that Tesla would win in an instant) Says the one who carpet bombed Nighthound with actual carpet. Is this a suggestion? Because the rule in place is that when he summons them they appear within five feet. It doesn't limit where they came from.

0) They act normally. If they were under his control, he would be waaaaaaay too powerful. 1) His ability is a time travel ability, so yes he could summon an Epic. He wouldn't, though. 2) I'm thinking his weakness should have something to do with religions. That way, he'll never be tempted to try and summon Jesus, Buddha and Muhammad and make them walk into a bar. 3) He still has to keep a low profile. It's not like his power is a surefire solution to all his problems. It's just that he has gotten out of a couple sticky situations by making people choose between killing him and saving a child. Another handy technique is summoning the would-be-assassin's mother a dozen times to create a meat shield. 4) Another situation in which keeping a low profile is a handy skill. Also, he creates alliegences with lots of epics more powerful than he. A sort of "I'll summon you a samurai army if you protect me" kind of agreement. He likes to make contenders just powerful enough to be a challenge to the ruling party, then summon the right people to really mess with everyone's heads, and them he sits back and watches the city burn. It's better than tv.

I'm writing up another epic. This one won't enter the story any time soon. I'm going to wait for some of my other characters to die before I bring another one in. Bringer Would you guys be ok with a character like this existing?

Also, Calamity is a whopping 1% of the way finished! Woohoo! I tried typing in a bunch of URLs to find a page for a Firehunt, like the Steelhunt, but I couldn't find one.

Who else read the title to this thread in Dr. Horrible's voice? "First time writing, long time watcher, blah blah blah... You always say you're going to show her the way, show her you're a true villain. Who is 'her' and does she even know that you're..." And now the Laundry Day song is going to be stuck in my head for the rest of forever.

Anniversary Game: In the Re-Wake of the Koloss
Newan replied to Metacognition's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Newan's checking in, so you don't all think I'm inactive. I just want to add one thing to the discussion: don't reveal your role in the thread. This is obvious for the seekers and mistborn, but I'm addressing the people who don't think their roles are very cool. Even if you are a vanilla, don't make that public knowledge. If the spiked know who some roles are, they'll be able to narrow it down and will more likely hit a seeker or mistborn. And yes, this is me being a hypocrite. I think that I have revealed my vanilla-ness in the thread in every game I have been a vanilla, so I understand the urge. But don't do it! -
Thanks! I'm glad people got the 'sparkamity' thing! If he had tried to stop a moving van that way, he would definitely be dead. But the weight is spread across his whole back and the back of his legs, and he would have been careful not to be under any particularly sharp parts. He is going to be very bruised up. Like, he is constantly covered in scrapes and bruises. He is constantly sore, but he is used to it and doesn't comment on it anymore.
