  1. Canon compliance by proxy. I like the way you think.
  2. Which implies we and other "David is totes not an Epic" theorizers were right. Still wondering what that means for Quota, though. I don't think he's controlling minds so much as altering the chemistry that makes people feel how they do, so that might fit in with subtlety....though he hasn't had any trouble with Epics so far, so it looks like he'll get a handwave.
  3. Because when I was a little receptionist, back in graduate school, my teachers would pile homework so heavily upon me that I could barely think! I had little time for reading, but still I had a quest: to find the perfect book about superpowers. So I read, and many of those books were awful--really, you don't know what awful is until you've read some of those, Perry the Judgerpus--but then one day I found Steelheart. It was as if I could hear angels singing as I read it, it was so good! Well, not literally because that would've been distracting, but you get the idea. I loved it so much that I immediately sought out everything else Brandon Sanderson ever wrote. But alas! I was still in graduate school, and still laden with homework, which prevented me from really reading everything in one sitting, as I wanted. But now that I have my degree I shall read everything in the Tri-State Area!
  4. "Backtrack, why are you crying?" "Because...someone...in this room...they...they want a sandwich and...and they can't leave to get one!" Probably not the best ending either.
  5. This would explain why the 5th grade science experiment calmed him. He knew exactly what would happen, when it would happen, and why it would happen.
  6. Have David and Megan pull some wibbly wobbly Epic ethics, turning every one of them into a hero? I like it.
  7. Okay, guys, I need your help with something. I'm about finished with Way of Kings, and while I know I'm going to read Words of Radiance, I have a problem: You. No, no, I didn't mean it like that! Please stop crying! I love you guys! Not in a creepy way or….anything…. I'm not helping, am I? Sigh. Let me start over. I'm almost finished with Way of Kings, and I'm loving it. I know I'll read the sequel. However, this forum has a lot of fans. And a lot of fans means a lot of people who read the same books, and a lot of people who read the same books means a lot of people who talk about the same books. While browsing the forums—even carefully avoiding spoiler topics—I come across people talking about things. Things like Stick, and a Dor, and Wax and Wayne and everything that happens after the last original Mistborn book. And frankly, I'm stinkin' curious. So! Vote in the poll and tell me what mysteries I should unravel next! Do I read Words of Radiance and learn about this stranger called Stick? Do I read Elantris and learn what a Dor is and why a door is too cool for a second O? Or do I finally stop lazing around and finish the original Mistborn trilogy so I can find out who the heck Wax and Wayne are? Vote! Let your voice be heard! I believe in you!
  8. PROF leans back in his seat, a faraway twinkle in his eye. Prof: When I was a boy, back in public school, every year I looked forward to the annual game of Monopoly. It was such a game! The entire school would play together on one enormous board—which did make things a bit crowded, but we got used to it. Seriously, when you're standing ON someone's head, you get over your "personal space issues" pretty quickly. Anyway, during the game my fifth grade year, things were going well. I had collected nearly four thousand dollars! It looked as though I was going to win, but then it came, David the Steelslayer. Oh, it came. The dreaded, the horrible, the completely and entirely unfair CHANCE CARD! I drew the card, tentatively, my hands shaking like those of a small child drenched in freezing oil standing outside in the middle of January—oh, never mind how I know what that feels like! I drew the card….and what should it say but…. He pauses, shuddering, and buries his head in his hands. Prof: Jail! "Go directly to Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. Give all of your money to the school secretary." My school got a bit creative with the Chance cards. So, dejectedly, I handed my money to the secretary, a horrible woman grinning evilly in her enormous fatness, and went to jail. I lost the game, David the Steelslayer. And with that game went my chances of ever becoming the Fifth Grade Gigantic Monopoly Champion.
  9. Nope. Hint: the radiation part is never stated in-universe, but if you know your history, you'll catch it right away.
  10. No, not at all. It's going to be a rough transition, no matter what happens. I just think that removing Epic powers along with the corruption would be the worst possible outcome, because the lack of powers would make the transition a thousand times harder.
  11. That would be an interesting fear to explore, but the biggest piece of evidence against it is that Prof was one of the first people to gain powers. I believe he says in Steelheart that he got powers fairly soon after Calamity rose, whereas most people didn't get theirs for a year or more. So he wouldn't be able to fear a world destroyed by Epics because that wasn't yet a possibility when Calamity chose him, meaning he wouldn't have had this fear. Unless he's also some sort of precog, but that hasn't been foreshadowed at all. His fear does seem to have something to do with Tia, but I think it would be more generalized than that. Perhaps his fear is focused on Tia for now, but if it is indeed losing someone, then I think it would be a bit broader.
  12. I just made a new entry for the Stormmeme Archive, and the site gave me the dreaded "You are not allowed to use that image extension in this community" message.
  13. No. It's intended for children.
  14. It is not based on a comic book.
  15. Too little sleep. Too tired to deputize anything that makes any sock opera.

    1. Edgedancer

      Edgedancer

Does this sock opera recreate the plot of the way of kings?

It might. Still trying to find the perfect dog-sized lobster hat so one of my pugs can play a chasmfiend. :P

  16. I don't think humans can ever "get used to" things like child soldiers and constant war. I mean, you can find ways of adjusting society around them--I guess some schools in war-torn areas have "war days," where school is cancelled because it's too dangerous to attend--but that sort of horror isn't something people get used to.
  17. She can't do gases, either. Yes, her powers are bizarre, and I know I'm pushing canon with her as it is, but I do want to stick to canon where I can. Should I have thought about her powers a it more before writing that first post? Yeah, sure. But on the blackmail thing, it did sound like you were serious.
  18. I think he's awaiting a trial of sorts, so I'm not sure how running into a new Epic would help with that.
  19. (I'm going to say that was fool's gold. It's not a major plot point anyway. ) I too am fine with sharing the details of Project Hyde.
  20. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THE HERALDS, KOBOLD, GIVE HIM THE CHARLESTON FILES ALREADY!!!!!
  21. So is the code name for Project Lightwards Totally Does NOT Survive Oregon and Does NOT Become Khione's Immortal and Grouchy Consort still a go? Also, I thought of an Epic today. Name: Last Bite Power: Specialized probability manipulation. Every time someone is about to take the last bit of their lunch, or complete a task, or do something for themselves, Last Bite makes sure the phone will ring, or a demanding customer walks through the door, or something similar. As you may have guessed, he likes to torment receptionists and cashiers.
