  1. Oregon is home to a lot of preppers, people who prep for an apocalypse that may or may not come, so we assumed there would be a not-insignificant number of people with generators in Portland. Some go without power, but those who have generators aren't above sharing with their neighbors. The Dalles I thinks runs on generators, and I'm not sure what the situation is in Astoria or Corvallis.
  2. I suppose you and I just aren't as interesting as Joe or Kobold.
  3. Do I smell a duel to the death on live TV?
  4. Did I mention that mine looks a lot like Oprah?
  5. It's better than my version of a female Epic with 80s hair who goes around singing "uplifting" songs for unknown reasons.
  6. How about Weird Al's "Foil" for when he needs to explain his views on mind-reading Epics? 7,734 profile views.
  7. Just in case. How do you see how many profile views you have?
  8. I wonder how many Oregon characters want to send that song to those on the ATTD List. And if one of the senders will be Edgerunner or Scribbler....and if the recipient will be Deathwish. Also, and then Santa Anna died.
  9. I think parents find it hard to accept that their kids have problems. Mine do the same thing. Back when I was a teen and I was going through a rough period, they acted like I was either doing it for the attention or doing it to make them look bad. Sometimes, parents can put their desire to be seen as perfect parents above the well being of their children. And the funny thing is, the original cause may not be their fault. People go through crap sometimes, and it's not always their fault. But they should be supporting you, not telling you you're faking. I know I'm just text on a screen, but for what it's worth, I'm always willing to listen.
  10. It won't be a miracle; it'll be you doing what needs to be done and having fun while you're at it. I used to think is never be able to pay a credit card bill or save money or manage on my own without my parents reminding me every day, but then I took those responsibilities on, and I found that I actually did well. I'm still not really on my own yet, but I've spent a few weekends by myself--just me, the dogs, and Netflix--and it was actually very pleasant. I made my own meals and they were delicious. I did whatever I needed to do to keep everything running smoothly, and run smoothly it did. You'll do better than you think you will. Independence is scary before you have it, but once it's yours, you wonder whatever scared you so badly in the first place.
  11. Being an adult is like this: You work at a job you don't like all the time to pay bills you wish you didn't have. You want to be a kid again with no responsibilities and no bills. To drown your melancholy, you go to the store for something sugary. You want something small, but then you see it. A cake. A whole cake, your favorite kind. It's not super expensive. You can hear your mom in your head: "Don't ever eat an entire cake by yourself! Are you kidding? You'll be sick for days!" But that cake. You buy the cake. You eat the cake. The first slice or two are delicious. After that, you realize something: There is more cake than you imagined. You put the cake away and eat a few carrots. You go to bed sick, your mother's imagined "I told you so!" ringing in your ear. But unlike during your childhood, it is just your imagination. You smile. You love being an adult.
  12. I went to Whole Foods yesterday. I bought an eclair. I went home and ate it. There are perks to being an adult.
  13. HOW? The elevator isn't worthy.
  14. I'm also going to disagree on the sexism thing. I don't know if Moffatt himself is sexist--I don't know the man--but the way he writes every female character except Clara feels, to me, very respectful and organic. And the relationship dynamics feel egalitarian to me. Take Amy and Rory. This is a relationship where the gender roles are reversed, with an assertive woman who takes the lead and a gentle man who follows. This could have been a stereotypical sitcom setup, with a nagging wife and a henpecked husband....yet it became one of the sweetest relationships on the show, in my opinion. Their love for one another was genuine, and although Amy and Rory did have difficulties later on, they pulled through. This relationship was shown in an unflaggingly positive light, and Rory's respect and love for Amy were hailed as noble qualities.
  15. What I like, so far as companions go, is a pair of siblings, a brother and a sister maybe. If they were younger than previous companions, I feel like that would put the Doctor in more of a father figure role--one we haven't seen him in almost ever (so far as I can recall, anyway). That could soften Twelve's darker portrayal, and show new sides of him that we aren't getting with the current companion-as-love-interest status quo. Plus, if they were especially impish siblings, we'd get to see the Doctor going through entire episodes without noticing the fake mustache they drew on his face....and then we could see his revenge next episode. Oh! What if the grand seasonal arc was their prank war? THAT would be novel!
  16. I am not a fan of Clara. Not at all. She's cute and spunky....and that's it. That's her only personality. If it weren't for the memory wipe thing, I'd be pushing for them to bring back Donna; as it stands, I want the Doctor's next companion to be either Sally Sparrow or a pair of siblings.
  17. He did well for a while. Matt Smith's first season was as close to perfect as any of Tennant's best episodes. Then....I don't know what happened. I think Capaldi's first season was the one where it really went downhill for me. Trying to make the Doctor darker with no good reason for it? It just felt so gratuitous.
  18. Favorite Doctor: None. I thought 9 was my favorite while I watched his episodes; then 10 came along and he was my favorite for a while. After that was 11, and then I went back to some of the Classic Doctors and fell in love. I guess what I'm trying to say is: Each Doctor brings something new and unique to the table, and asking me to pick a favorite is like asking me to pick a favorite pastry when they're all chocolate-coated and delicious. If there's an exception, it's 12. I liked his darker bent at first, but now he just comes across as more of a jerk than the Doctor I know and love. Favorite Monster: I've been terrified of the Weeping Angels since they were first introduced, but the Clockwork Droids terrified me more than the Angels. Their soulless commitment to the task at hand....I watched that episode in an empty house, and it was the biggest mistake of my life. Favorite Episode: The Empty Child, The Eleventh Hour, or Vincent and the Doctor.
  19. Maybe. I wish he'd just RAFO it, though, so I can know for sure that he saw it and is going to answer it in the next book.
  20. The Question is always the same. We've just found twelve ways of asking it.
  21. Legal shmegal. Twi wants answers here! Of course.
  22. I'm staring to think we'd have better luck with your first plan.
  23. I'm starting to think that question about repeat traumas and weaknesses is destined to remain forever unanswered. I asked it again--the third time total--less than a minute after he'd answered another AMA question....and he hasn't answered one for some time now.
  24. Someday, in the near future, I will point to this moment as the one where my tenuous grip on a kinder, friendlier reality was forever shattered. I will point to that picture as the trauma at the root of all my problems. I will point to that picture moments before red light consumes my conscience, and you, Kobold, will know that you and George Lucas were responsible for my Rending.
