Mid-Range Game 62: In The Shadow of Ash
Kasimir replied to StrikerEZ's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Bookwyrm. I was wondering if I would see this. I was interested in Bookwyrm having a stable Village read D1. The thing with E!Bookwyrm that stuck out to me from QF64 and it's something I return to is that E!Bookwyrm has difficulty forming suspicions. I think for that reason, he tends to have TMI contaminate his Village reads and is over-stubborn about defending them. I wanted to see if Bookwyrm could be forced to recant under pressure, which would in my view be more indicative of V!Bookwyrm. Notice this is very definitive language. He is pushing back against Xino while Xino was I think the CW that cycle. At some points we clashed about Xino but Bookwyrm dug his heels in insisting on V!Xino. IMO V!him is less likely to do that. This is his response to my pressuring him on his positive Xino read: Again, compare to: He takes it back under pressure. I wouldn't say ride or die, but I'm currently V-leaning Bookwyrm, actually. Generally dislike that idea and think it's a lot of work for the GMs, feel the Übertin question should be asked in the Discord as people with longer memories than me might know how great an idea it is otherwise. Tbf it could be worse; if the players know it's coming, then yeah.

Mid-Range Game 62: In The Shadow of Ash
Kasimir replied to StrikerEZ's topic in Sanderson Elimination
[OOC: Going to try to stick to my Tyrian Phoenix Wright schtick at least once a cycle. I believe Fifth is leading in the votes so I am now obligated to defend him. How awkward.] Weard Leoht. Konlan Tomasz shuffled his papers and tried not to scowl. Failed. He didn't like Leoht all that much; fact of the matter was, Konlan didn't like very many people at all. It was slightly awkward, since Konlan was personally of the opinion that Leoht could've done it, but Konlan dealt in facts and in putting the best face on things. Which was another layer of irony for you, since Konlan wasn't much of an optimist. Even the worst of murderers deserved a day in court. Representation. It was the touchstone that Konlan lived by. It was about fairness. About justice. It was probably why he had been exiled to Creston. He hated Creston. It was a boring backwater, the canal waters were too loud, and he missed the noise and the bustle of Tremredare at night. But it didn't matter. Konlan did his duty. Always had. It didn't matter that Konlan thought that Leoht could maybe have done it. Leoht had a silver tongue, but could have wasn't a bloodied knife, and really, Konlan saw both sides of the picture as far as Leoht was concerned. What mattered was that Feden was shuffling in his hand charges laid against Leoht, duly signed and Konlan was here to witness them, and to lay out Leoht's defense, as best as he could. Lord Ruler, he still wondered sometimes if it was the right thing to do. They hated him, back in Tremredare, when the murderers walked. He told himself he was doing his job. That someone had to speak for the despised. That sometimes, he was right. Even now, he knew his own bullcrap when he told himself it. "I'm here to represent Weard Leoht," Konlan said, and Feden didn't really hide his groan. "Can you just witness the statements and be done with it?" Feden grumbled. Konlan folded his arms across his chest and gave Feden the stony stare that had cowed young obligators in training. Feden looked down and shuffled his statements and grumbled some more but let Konlan continue. "The charges laid against Leoht are extremely grave. They accuse him of murder and conspiracy. Though technically, it is difficult to press charges of conspiracy against the suspect in this case—'Ruin has come' is a very vague statement and might indicate the killer was of unsound mind. Fortunately," Konlan smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "I have here a witnessed statement that Leoht is in his right mind." He laid it on the table so Feden could see the signature. "The heart of the matter is whether Leoht could have done such a deed. He certainly is appearing to attempt to find the killer now. At this premature stage of the investigations, I find it hard to believe that Leoht is particularly more suspicious than just about anyone else, perhaps barring Maidihn, Jandro, Stick, and Aman. Though I'll be honest, I'm probably just not very impartial where Aman is concerned." Right. That was a little less formal than he'd meant to be. "The report from the physician states that the victim was killed between five to six hours before discovery. Leoht claims he was otherwise engaged. No one backs up his alibi. However, no one backs up Xino's alibi either, for instance. There are simply too many unknowns at this stage." As much as he still thought Leoht could've done it. Konlan would be the first to admit that he'd scoured the town and as it turned out, nearly half of Creston could have done the deed. [OOC: Look I tried okay. It seemed more fun when I first thought of it...]- 716 replies

Exacerbated I think since basically the entire population of this game is either Alive or DeadAlive and so info hygiene is actually a problem.

As Stick and I were both saying in Dead-Spec, we have been bloody terrified of posting in the wrong thread and also just not segmenting very carefully our knowledge of things going on beneath the surface in this investigation >> Pretty sure Fifth feels that way, or will if he shows up in Dead-Spec this time.

Suspicions probably not. Depends I guess. I think Stick and Drake and I have been talking about some possibilities there but it'd be very crude and not enough data to get robust results. Fetching posts/ISO bot is on my list of projects but we gotta fix Tallybot first.

Mid-Range Game 62: In The Shadow of Ash

I agree with this statement and I'm one of the GMs... Tbf it doesn't, but feels like it could come in handy during a late midgame to endgame claimsfest. K, now I've submitted my report and actually have one and a half functioning braincells left for this game before I have to hit the next report tomorrow: @xinoehp512: Curious about your joining the Fifth train, particularly over Mat or starting your own.- 716 replies

Odd, isn't it? I don't Shifting my vote to Xino. I'd like a more solid V!Fifth indicator and right now feel neutral on him, but I'm also of the faith that I will be able to read V!Fifth if he appears. Current thoughts: -Neutral on TKN, maybe light V, but possibly coloured by irritation at his tone. I don't care at this point as I believe that I will be able to read TKN by C3, so pass. -Probably policy V on Aman at this stage but acknowledge it is a risk. -V lean on TJ. Doesn't feel consistent with his E!meta. -V lean on Stick. Maybe a bit more confident in that I still think this pattern of engagement doesn't really show up when Evil, I'll feel more confident about it when I see more. - /shrug on Mat. - /shrug on Ash - doesn't feel like V!Ash so far, but. -Prefer to focus on IDing Inquisitor candidates as I think it's easier to see the Inquisitor play profile (disengaged, avoiding direct attention, between low activity to low activity Toucan sweetspot +-), so Xino it is.- 716 replies

Mid-Range Game 62: In The Shadow of Ash
Kasimir replied to StrikerEZ's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Why would I? At most of the times I've been on, he's been far from Snapping. I've no objection to throwing him over if he's near the edge, but since I'm supposed to focus on RL and not the game, and have been stealing time from a report due today to check in, I'm going to treat each vote as a matter of 'Can I live with this being my last vote for the Day.' Thread consensus is to get TKN over and done with, which I respect, but another valid angle is to not actually give a damn and to focus on usual D1ing. Part of this is basically what I told you in the PM - I have a strong in-principle objection to rewarding an action that has been acknowledged to be blatantly about getting Village read, and that is oversold to me as the best thing since the second Coming of Christ. Well, no. Besides, I like knowing that he shows up roleless on scans with a role only if he's converted.- 716 replies

Why would E!me hesitate when it makes more sense to just jump on the train since literally no one else is hesitating, and there's pretty much no cost to me for agreeing to just vote you? I don't see where your move is equivalent with a gambit - in fact, I frankly think you are overstating how informative it is in terms of motivating discussion, and the fact you are deliberately highlighting it as a way of 'motivating discussion' seems fairly disingenuous to me. I don't think it is as useful a move as you claim it to be, and you're more or less the Obama medal award meme at the moment. I understand having a strong Village read D1, but I don't see this as a circumstance that motivates a strong, unqualified Village read. I throw your question back to you: it's D1. If I see something that seems like a stronger read than the situation should merit, why the hell shouldn't I question it? That is literally what being a Villager entails. I've said as much. You can go ahead and vote me, I don't particularly mind or care. Edited to add: And yes, I'm arguing both sides because I'm more or less doing my thinking aloud in the thread. Again, do not particularly give a damn whether you care for it or not.- 716 replies

Oh. RIP okay I missed that I could sort of see that then, yeah. Minimally it'd mean E!TKN can't be DK C1. Edited to add: Ngl low key want to V-read TJ for this. Feel E!TJ would be hyper aware of the alignment scan.- 716 replies

Instead of Inquisitor hunting? Because Stick raised a good point that I agree with - odds of Inquisitor!TKN are insanely low, and that the Inquisitor is the one player the scans can find, and I don't recall any other scans that are outward-targeting. There's much to be said about ideal Inquisitor profile, FWIW, but I think that is a fair thing to think about. And since the Inquisitor is essentially findable (and Seekers can't find any other Elim that way, and taking down the Inquisitor means no convert...) I'll be fair: I'm not sure I strongly hold these positions but apparently I'm not just a legal advocate, fully licensed by the Steel Ministry, but I'm also a Devil's Advocate :eyes:- 716 replies

I think my point is just: why is the snapping so special? Why does he have to claim his role if he Snaps? Arguably if he gains Seeker or Lurcher or Mistborn, he shouldn't claim since that just paints a big target on his head. I'm not taking this to be particularly AI but I'm not seeing why this should be the case.- 716 replies

I guess some of this boils down to my feel of the Tuatara case, which is sort of like Tuatara saying "I want to consider Croc indubitably not Spiked" except that was clearly deliberate and this just felt natural. I guess the fact I don't feel the judgement is a natural or obvious one also feeds into the fact I don't feel as positive about it here I also haven't played with you in a Long While apart from LG83/LG84 - I'd count Falcon as an edge case because I spent most of the game thinking Falcon was someone else and this did affect the way I read Falcon (keep in mind I was also huffing E!Falcon for a decent chunk of the game, including in the dead doc thanks to Devo's trolling...) Fair enough. I think the issue is I don't understand why he's locked in to being truthful about his role if he snaps. Why is this especially true?- 716 replies

If my read of the rules is correct, they can be. I wouldn't expect E!you to directly claim you're hardclearing him as Village - I just note that your initial post frames it as an extremely high level of certainty and that's the sort of thing I believe is more likely to come from an Elim perspective. In general, unless the player in question is highly confident for meta reasons, I view that sort of certainty as potential Elim TMI. I don't like the opportunity cost - if you feel your votes do the most good parked on TKN instead of applying pressure or following your suspicions, that's on you. I acknowledge that's partly on me as the faster he hits the seven vote mark, the faster votes are freed up and can be persuaded to bump TKN over the threshold if things are closer, but I also prefer where my vote is right now. Sure, go ahead.- 716 replies
