  1. I tried walking into a store and buying a pair, and it didn't end super well. Apparently you can't walk into most glasses stores and buy a pair off the shelf unless you have a prescription, even if all you want is a pair for fashion. I'm really very clueless and inexperienced when it comes to eyeware. Thus, I'm going for just ordering a pair off of amazon to cut out all the restrictions and weird processes of a real life store.
  2. I got a $15 gift card for amazon recently. I want to get a pair of glasses, non-prescription, but I'm nervous about how to get the right size. Is there any way to not feel like I'm just throwing darts at a board blindfolded?
  3. The main lyrics to Thunder are really good, and I like that part of it. It's the chorus that kills me.... I hate the synth voice, and I wish that they could've come up with something more meaty than Feel the Thunder. I'm hoping for an acoustic version that doesn't have that synth voice, a bit like the one they did for Shots.
  4. I mostly really like it. I still don't like Thunder, but in the context of the album it doesn't bother me as much. Walking the Wire is amazing, and Believer and Whatever it Takes are awesome. There's a couple songs I'm a little on the edge about, like Dancer in the Dark, but overall I do really like the album. I'm hoping I'll be able to go to a concert this fall. Anyone else a little confused about the new direction the Killers took with The Man? I like the song, but boy, it's different.
  5. I probably almost wore my disks out, I had played it at least 16 times. My sister played it three times I think. I ended up selling it ages ago to pay for Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii. I got a free copy of it when I pre-ordered Tales of Zestiria on steam though so I can experience all the joys of Lloyd and company once again.
  6. Yesterday I finished Revelation and Authority, a book on Jewish theology and scriptural study. And today I finished Nothing Left to Lose, the last John Cleaver book. It was good, and yet somehow unsattisfying. It was....too happy? Like, Dan Wells was in just too good of a state of mind to really get into writing another John Cleaver book. That and most of the mysteries in the series were mostly wrapped up in the last book. Next up I need to read some more Sandman.
  7. I'm a little less than half way through a re-play of Tales of Symphonia. It's been years, and I'd forgotten how much I loved this game. I'd also forgotten how frustrating the dungeons can be and how difficult it can be without proper preparation. My dad got a steam link and several games over the summer sale, so as soon as it gets here I think I'll start playing all the games that my laptop will struggle with at school. I'm thinking Dragons Dogma will look excellent on the big screen
  8. @Chaos Woooo!! You're literally the real MVP. Well, since Mestiv has already been featured, I'll nominate @RippleGylf again for her contributions to SE and the only sharder I know in real life
  9. Has anyone tried the new Vidangel? I'm not sure how I feel about the new model, and I don't want to try the free trial while they're still going through debugging. One major question I have is can you use one vidangel account on two different netflix accounts. I thought about putting this in tech discussion, but I figure the people who might know are more likely to see it on this thread than other places.
  10. Not quite. A terrace is usually not attached to the ground floor. Decks are only ever attached to the ground floor. Functionally, they are the same, but their placement is different.
  11. A deck? A deck is another word for porch in America. Basically, an elevated patio connected directly to the house that is usually made of wood or synth wood. Edit: Ninja'd for the first time in months
  12. Holy Crem. The Name of the Wind is having its 10th anniversary?......Storm it ROTHFUSS, write the third book already!
  13. I like the term: "In like with him/her". It shows that you're definitely interested in them, and would like to have a relationship with them, but you haven't reached the emotional levels of outright love. It seems a lot more mature to me than just having a crush. Like, crushes sound like twitterpated middleschoolers who haven't had enough experience to understand their own feelings or other people's feelings. Being in like with someone implies a pretty thorough understanding of your own feelings and thoughts. Obviously, slang is very personal and not everyone will want to use mine, but I like it. As for the written word....especially with texts.... I dated a girl about two years ago, and we texted often enough that we had developed a lingo and short talk that would truly be indecipherable to outsiders. We don't talk anymore, but my own texting style with everyone has been hugely influenced by all that time texting the one person. It takes a while for my friends to completely get how I text, although I try to be much more transparent in business type texts. Once we learn to do something one way, it takes a while for people to act a new way. In texting, or even communicating in general I think, we learn scripts of communication with our friends and family and forget that outsiders lack those scripts. Statistically, girls are more social in both texts and verbal communication, but much of that is communication between girls. So they can either learn a Lot of different scripts, or they can become incomprehensible to outsiders as they derive a more specialized lingo with their friends. In either case, we guys are screwed by our noncompetitive sociability skills
  14. I finished Jade Empire last night. It was a great game, and I'm glad I finally decided to play it. I'm certain I missed a fair amount of stuff, so sometime in the future I'll have to re-play and complete all the rest of that Bioware goodness. So, I've got a couple options for what to play next. I really should finish Valkyrie Chronicles..... But I'm also feeling like replaying Tales of Symphonia.... Baldurs Gate sounds fun too....and I've been thinking about trying Alien Isolation. I'm not really into horror, but it could be fun, and it'd be a game I haven't played before.
  15. I'll admit I thought the point you may have been making was about female leads, but I wasn't certain. Considering how flammable the topic has been throughout the internet, I thought it better for peace on the shard to not make any assumptions. I definitely do agree with your assessment of the films and the hype. I haven't been looking at the films from the point of view of Female Lead in scifi/fantasy. I know a lot of the hype for Wonder Woman was because she was fulfilling that whole (along side Daisy Ridley and Amy Adams in Arrival I must add), but I was looking forward to Wonder Woman because it was Wonder Woman. Diana's never gotten the the kind of attention in film or tv that her character deserves, so I was really excited about the film just for that. Your point of view is totally valid and I even agree with it, it just wasn't where I was coming from so I had trouble switching over my thinking.
  16. Ah, that's what I was afraid of. Pity, it's always nice to find new authors with a large body of work already done.
  17. Has anyone read Sherrilyn Kenyon or Patricia Briggs? I think there are some serious fans at my library because the new books shelf Always has at least one book by one of them, and has for the past several years. The covers, titles, and descriptions aren't exactly convincing me to even try the books, but I'm running out of fantasy authors....So anyone have any opinions on either of their books? Since they have kind of large libraries, if they are worth reading, where should I start?
  18. The first book of Temeraire, probably the first two books, are the best parts of the series. The ending is pretty good too. You should be aware that the middle drags pretty badly though. Glad you enjoy it!
  19. I'm about half way through The Eternity Artifact, one of the few Modesitt sci-fi's I haven't read yet. I'm about a quarter through Theft of Swords, it's not as good as I remember. Ulrich is insanely annoying, and the main characters don't seem very mature. If I remember correctly, further in it gets better, so I'll keep listening.
  20. Oh, true. Ummm, so I guess this re-affirms my question. What's the connection between Wonder Woman and Ghostbusters?
  21. I'm confused, what do Ghostbusters and Wonder Woman have to do with each other? Aside from Chris Pine.
  22. So I think the hype for the movie was maybe a little too strong, but I still really really liked it. I wasn't sold on Gal Gadot in BvS, but she was fantastic here. Chris Pine, whew, you sir are above average. The chemistry between the characters was pretty good. I'm still confused about how a native American became a smuggler in Europe, but I'm glad that there was that bit of representation anyway. I was not sold on the German villains. From the giggling at killing the people in the peace conference to general over acting and a lack of charisma, they were just boring to watch. I did really like Ares until he got all suited up. I just don't think Remus Lupin can pull off a Sauron version of Ares. He was incredibly intimidating as a voice and ghost in the window, but after that he was a little dissapointing. Not a perfect film, but very good, and very enjoyable.
  23. I got season 1 of The Librarians from the....library this week. From the pilot, I take it the show is kind of a mix of Doctor Who, Legends of Tomorrow, and Leverage. I'm not in love with the characters or writing so far. I do like some of the cast. I actually decided to start the show simply because of Christian Kane. I have a feeling that with enough time the show will definitely grow on me, but that's only assuming it keeps me interested enough to get to that point. I've also gotten half way through That 70's Show. I've really been binging it hard... Also watched a few more episodes of The 100. Still not convinced that I want to keep watching, but it's something more serious to break up the time with That 70's Show.
  24. I started listening to A Theft of Swords last night. I'd read it years ago, but couldn't get my hands on the sequel so I kind of forgot about it. My library finally has all the books now, so I'm re-listening to the first book since I barely remember any of it. Then I'll continue on to book 2. I'm also planning on trying to read Malazaan again. I'll have to finish up Deadhouse Gates, then I'll go ahead and read book 3.
