  1. Yeah, that's certainly one of the more fun tropes, the hero and his steed. It basically goes back to Alexander and Bukephalos and was pretty popular in Medieval epics (Roland and Veillantif, Renaud de Montalban and Bayard, Sigurd and Grani). Often a named, special sword is involved, too (Durendal, Excalibur, Anduril, Gram - Notung in the German version, Ice ....). I admit I've done it myself.
  2. Totally amen to that. I stopped reading the books because of them.
  3. Kaladin doesn't need a horse. He can fly.
  4. And now we get 'Love Abduction'. Someone got a very funny interpretation of 'love' there.
  5. That's why I'm hoping to attract a nightspren or darkspren.
  6. Parts of Germany got a veritable highstorm last night: http://www.wetteronline.de/wetter-videos/2014-06-10-un?cat=1 (Luckily, my place wasnt hit that badly.)
  7. I would break that oath the next night.
  8. I think Kaladin has reached his lowest point when he joins the assassination plot against Elhokar. When he drags himself out of that, he fulfilled his redemption arc. Ma candidate is Shallan. There's a duplicity to her that makes me dislike the character (ok, that is a personal feeling) and which may offer the crack for Odium to creep it. After all, she's not dealt with her past and she keeps lying even to herself. One day, that facade may crumble spectacularly.
  9. Well, in most historical cultures and in several cultures event today, marriage is about status and money, not about love. So it's understandable to assume Shallan may think along those lines (the Alethi culture surely is very status oriented). Navani may have been guided by such principles in chosing the king over Dalinar, though I admit her fearing Dalinar's passion played a role, too. Yeah, it would be nice if Shallan choses for love, but I won't hold it against her if she acted according to her society.
  10. Be careful or the bots will Soulcast you into one of them.
  11. He changed the i to an o and is now hanging around in Malazan.
  12. When you read the title of a blogpost I will Survive Those who Wish me Dead and wonder which KR would use that as a motto. http://www.tor.com/blogs/2014/06/book-reviews-those-who-wish-me-dead-michael-koryta
  13. Or at least FeatherWriter, who's around, should get a Shardblade named Spamkiller.
  14. Yeah, and among all that love voodoo there's now a different one from an abortion hospital. In case the voodoo creates little demons, I suppose.
  15. They certainly seem to know when admins are around and when not.
  16. But where does all that voodoo power they contained go? We could probably blame the next volcano eruption on it.
  17. That wasn't the internet, that was Odium.
  18. Hey, that could actually work with my ley lines based magic in Kings and Rebels. Dry out the trees and then set a nice little fire to the forest to flush - erm smoke - out whoever's hiding there. It's the sort of stuff Alastair would do if he gets pissed at Illugi the Black and his tricks one more time.
  19. Now I want to grow some shardbladesflowers on my balcony.
  20. A new batch is up. (Yes, I should work and not check 17thShard, but it's a slow day and I'm bored.)
  21. Yes, for academic purposes. I need the lottery numbers because there's a 4 weeks Greenland expedition this summer I would love to join.
  22. Yep, the North Campus houses all the faculties like Maths and IT, Physic and Astrophysics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology (where I'm working), Forestry and Agrarian Sciences. And people inte the commute bus from the station read GRRM, Abercrombie, Rothfuss, the occasional Mark Lawrence, Erikson and Bernard Cornwell, and sometimes SciFi stuff like Hamilton or Scalzi. It's fun.
  23. Hey, you're not allowed to travel forth in time and read books not yet published. It could prove dangerous. 17th sharders may capture and torture you for information.
  24. And get blood and brain bits all over the book? Nah, I prefer a baseball bat for that.
  25. Esp. if that monster turns into 8 books. Martin says he tries not to, but judging by the last two installments the world has grown to an extent I would not be surprised. Except he kills pretty much everyone in Winds.
