Is it possible he could have lashed the bow tips behind him to pull the bow, then released? Similar to how kaladin paints object with storm light to affect gravity?

Is reading The Stormlight Archive worth it?
Crazy Mraize replied to Red Ferring's topic in Stormlight Archive
Frankly I'll say this. It's quite slow to start. By the end you won't regret going through it. I don't think I would have loved the last third of the book as much if I hadn't slugged through the first half. By the time I finished the book I thought it was one of the best I'd ever read. It's not often the hair on the back of your neck rises while reading a book. I'm pretty sure I cried like a girl at some portions and then was jumping up and down in excitement at others. But the truth is, you feel like you REALLY know these characters when you get through with it. Then you get into WoR... ay ya ya, I lost many nights of good sleep to these books. -
The most devastating shard weapons
Crazy Mraize replied to Fifth of Daybreak's topic in Stormlight Archive
Obviously a flame spren bonded would turn into shard-napalm. Right? -
I assume Vasher will assume the 5th heightening and become a returned and just rain down the pain on Szeth.

I thought the boon would be Dalinar wanted Renarin's life saved. We get a hint in I think the Baxil chapter of WoK about phrasing the boon in a crafty way - perhaps Dalinar asked for Renarin to live but didn't specify clearly enough for Renarin to be cured entirely - hence Renarin still has epileptic episodes but isn't in mortal danger from them. The curse was that in order to save one person he loved, he'd forget another. That's my guess anyway.

But also recall, whenever anyone picked up Nightblood in the novel he'd respond the same way. The question is the will of the holder. Vasher knew to ignore (and sometimes he nearly failed) the power of Nightblood. Can Szeth, who is no longer truthless, think for himself and have flexibility in his personal code? My guess is that Nightblood will seek out Vasher if he is within proximity - say if Szeth is sent after

True, but I give Brandon credit for not going the popular route with his concepts. Hoid's origin story is in Dragonsteel correct? And Hoid says he began life as a thought, a concept, words on a page... So if perhaps these dragon's can create a being from concept, perhaps they can shift and change themselves. Could the dragon we assume Hoid is writing in the letter be Mraize, who created Hoid (by that description)? I may be getting it all mixed up though. And I'm just now finding out about dragonsteel and the other works, so you may just want to chuckle and ignore the newbie.
-
I guess my concept of what a dragon is will be rocked, but how exactly does a dragon assume the form of humans? I won't be surprised if Mraize is not human, he is a predator of sorts in my mind, and he certainly on my first read posed as someone, like Zahel, that is clearly not from this world. Has Brandon given any hints to his version of dragons?

^ that doesn't sound anything like Taln though - as he's described by Kelek as being basically the insanely brave one of the group - his actions per Kelek don't strike me as the guy who is going to give up. The fact he lasted 4500 years in torture makes me believe its not a follower chosen by Taln. No way a normal person could endure that. While Taln has endured the torture before and can handle it on his own, I can't believe some human being randomly can last that long.

But at the same time how can you explain his inhuman ability to catch the darts for Amaram? I don't think simply giving someone memory would achieve that. He's described as a hulking muscular man. Dark skin, with dark eyes (which I keep chuckling that Dalinar even with his visions still disregards the fact about the ancient power structures). Speaks perfect Alethi. The Gift, we aren't even sure what that could be - the Gift to keep living forever as long as you can help save mankind? The Gift of surgebinding? The Gift of a blade? The Gift from the Nightwatcher? It's capitalized so it has to be something of import. I figured the reference to the words was the fact that Jezrien was the king of the heralds and he had to provide the words in the past. Perhaps that is why Taln is so confused.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I'm still new to the boards, so could someone kindly point me to why Moash's actions "screams of dustbringer"?

No clue why, but I always figured Jasnah and Kaladin were going to be the odd couple that makes it.

Nalan and Ishar, the dynamic duo. (Spoilers galore!)
Crazy Mraize replied to Fifth of Daybreak's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've been running that scene through my head with Nalan and the mysterious other ambassador in the hallway. Is it possible this was actually a skybreaker, and not a herald, and when he says " That creature carries my lord's own Blade" he's referencing that Szeth had Nalan's blade, not Jezriens? I've just always found that phrasing odd, not "our lord's own bade" but my lord's own Blade. He's clearly subservient to Nalan by the dialogue the two share. Just a possible interesting wrinkle.- 24 replies

Except he also has said since the voidbringers are here Taln has to be here as well. So the question is then if "Taln" isn't Taln, then where is he, because he has to be here in order for the desolation to occur. I think Taln is just so broken by the torture that he doesn't even know who he really is. It's been 4500 years, weren't the previous desolations like 500-1000 years in between? I assume it probably worked as whoever broke first is when the desolation would happen and they all arrived.

I thought the assumption was that the drunk in WoK is Ishar because he has such a long beard. Some contend that Kalak was potentially a bridgeman. I agree that this guy is probably a herald though since he says "we" weren't supposed to get worse. But I wonder, why this assumption of getting worse. Does this imply they were previously going bad and something intervened? Did they make a deal with the Nightmother? So basically this guy is either Kalak or Jezrien if you believe that Ishar is the bearded drunk. Perhaps it is Jezrien, and Nale considers him crazy, and therefore the comment about drooling. If it's Jezrien he doesn't even know who he is at all.

I figured, but I thought it was odd how Kalak describes the blades as being works of art, and then Taln shows up with a spike like blade. Just doesn't seem to match up.
-
I'm sure it's been validated, but since Syl can change the shape of Kal's blade, is it possible that Taln wanted his blade to be needle shaped at the time?

I'm still trying to think what mathematical concepts would be at play here. If its a spiral galaxy, I believe the oldest stars are close to the center, versus the newer stars. Perhaps it just suggest that the area around the Purelake was the initial landmass and that over time the storms have created the remaining landmass. I've seen it two different ways, but aren't the storms more powerful in the east, and the crem distribution more abundant as well? Since it floats and has no tectonics, the initial storms perhaps blew into the central mass (Purelake area), and constantly rotated the landmass while adding crem, until it became as large as it is, so that overtime the rotation decreased to negligible levels and the storms just push the continent now? I'd assume its far too large now to actually rotate.

That's my other idea on this. The pool on Sel is hardly explored.

A: Hoid has indeed gotten between worlds before through Shadesmar. Q: And would you be willing to give us a hint as to how he does that? A: There are hints in the books. There is a hint in the very first cosmere book I released. [that would be Elantris] Which I thought was a huge hint, but so far I haven't seen anyone talking about it. I thought for sure once people started figuring the cosmere, they would see the massive in-your-face hint I put in that book, but so far, as far as I know, no one has. Now, the one [hint] about the map, that one I don't think is obvious. I know people have been trying to figure it out. It's going to be fun once you figure it out, but it's not something huge and obvious. The Elantris once was, like, enormously "HIIINT!" Isn't this fairly obvious, he uses a modified Aon Tia to teleport to new worlds as long as he knows the distance he needs to travel? If it had to be done on Sel, Perhaps he uses Shadesmar to get to Sel and travel from there... Or am I overlooking something since its been a year since I last read Elantris? Brandon I believe also said magic from one world is possible on another, its just a question of converting the energy - I think he mentioned that in regard to someone using stormlight to power allomancy. We already see Lift uses food to power her stormlight, burning it like allomancy - it even confuses her spren. I just wonder if our boy Hoid hasn't figured out a way to modify his Aon Tia and use the local power source - stormlight - to power it instead of the city of Elantris' aon...

Maybe the first people of Roshar built massive cities to deflect the storms. Then overtime the crem grew. Kind of like a shield wall. Perhaps the orientation of the mountains is important.

From the WoB page: Shicaca Q: I was looking at the map of Roshar and it kinda looked like a spiral galaxy to me, like it was flipping a certain way. A: That was intentional. You are on to something that no one's figured out yet. Q: I was thinking it could be connected to people being able to manipulate gravity. A: It's not exactly what you think you're on to, but you're getting close to something that they've all wanted to know for a while. We also have: Can you give me a hint in the easter egg in the map of Roshar? What particular skill do you need for it? Is it a different language or math related? A: It's not linguistics. It is math related. Let me remind you this is not going to be a mind blowing revelation. It is going to be a nifty thing. Someone actually got close at one of my signings. They noticed something. But it is a fun easter egg that will tell you more about the history of the world. This thread is 24 pages long so I'm sure someone noted this, but the Purelake is nearly symmetrical. I don't have time right now to do this, but I would start here trying to apply some mathematic concepts around this mid point. Perhaps by folding it over on itself, you can see a size correlation perhaps. I'm just throwing it out there, because I'm exhausted tonight, but aren't the people of the eastern part of this land taller in general than those of the western? Perhaps there is some absurd mathematical correlation to this and the landmass? Maybe the landmass in the east is just larger due to the crem and the highstorm potency at that point. Anyway, crackpot attempt.
