  1. So, I've been thinking a bit about my Epics, and I've realized that I've totally forgotten Ironmonger. Which is sad, because he's the only Epic of mine to have made the ATTD list. But it's also good, for the same reason. Are folks interested in seeing more Ironmonger round here? Or should I stick to Team Paladin for now?
  2. Hmm....not a likely natural combination. Even a planet moving through the center of gravity couldn't get caught there if it was moving beforehand. Conservation of momentum (both linear and angular) and all of that. If it was artificially set up, something like that could happen, but it would be an extremely unstable equilibrium, tending to crash into one of the suns at the slightest disturbance from it's stationary point. The rotation slowing is accurate, though. Tidal locking would slowly occur in a situation like that.
  3. I noticed that we were talking about having 2 PIs for a character in The Dalles (I think it was Ozymandius, but I'm not sure), and I just thought that I'd mention that Paladin has 2 PI's as well. Precognition and resurrection. Difficult to kill, to be sure. Not as hard to stop him from killing you, but that's the price you pay sometimes... Also, Team Paladin post up. Finally, Kobold, should Vondra send Weeks to the armory to deal with Deathwish? Since he's back and has a dragon, after all...
  4. Lightning flashed above Ranger's head, impacting directly on Guardian's forcefield, and again, from a slightly different angle. Aiming fro the tree that time. Not long before they start hitting other trees in the area. Cursing, he threw the shattered fragments of his rifle to the ground and reached for his bow. Apparently the shattering Epic could reach out over range. Well, he had some tricks that would only get worse if he shattered them. From his quiver, hanging from a branch, he pulled out one of his special arrows. Designed to exacting specifications, it was filled with a pressurized vial of poison gas, designed to shatter on a sufficiently hard impact - like being shot from a longbow - but to remain sealed under any less exacting conditions. He fitted it to his bowstring, and turned his attention to the battle again. Unbidden, equations came to his mind. Force is mass times acceleration. 70 pounds of tension in the bowstring. Mass of the arrow... Releasing his mind, he aimed a a spot just in between the shattering Epic and the one that had thrown the lightning, and fired. Quickly, he dropped the bow to the ground, knocking his quivers to follow. Hopefully, the shattering Epic couldn't break things that were out of his line of sight. "Guardian, time to get us out of here!"
  5. True that. The fact that y'all seem to have forgotten the moral outrage when Paladin attempted to murder a teenage girl means that I haven't written enough Paladin in far too long. (Admittedly, she was an Epic, but she was sobbing on the ground when it happened. It was a traumatic scene to write and to read...) I don't think that Paladin is going to be redeemable, though. Ranger is definitely going to die unredeemed (I already have his death scripted in my mind). Guardian I have hopes for, but nothing concrete.
  6. I was wondering why Question updates stopped showing up in my inbox. I just now realized that it was because we opened a new thread. *Sigh* Now to read through 13 pages of responses to see if I missed anything...
  7. I tremble to have my dirt secret thus revealed, but I am indeed a literate man. If indeed, one such as I can fain lay claim to that title.
  8. No problem. If finishing this storyline rekindles enough interest in keeping this going, there may be room to fit your character in yet. I don't want to be over-optimistic yet, though. Let's see where we stand when we finish this storyline.
  9. And Edassa is back again! For a little while, at least. Maybe this means that the long promised but never realized worldbuilding thread is coming soon...

  10. That is a very good question. I'm leaving for work soon, otherwise I'd look it up. I can look after I get back, though.
  11. Nice. I like it! You could make a webcomic based on our adventures so far. But not until your final exams are done. When do yours finish?
  12. That's one! Three more people to go. Or more, if Mail wants to bring Khuvlai into it...
  13. Alright. Finals are over. That was the end of my really tough Physics classes (at least until I go to graduate school next year). I'll be doing research over the summer, but I actually have time now. So, I realize that this has lost a lot of its momentum. I don't want to let it die without a satisfying conclusion, though. Is anyone up to taking this through to a good conclusion of the storyline with me? I'm thinking Bran's fight with the High Inquisitor, Unodus, Voidus, and Kobold escaping from prison, Voidus taking command of the remaining Inquisition forces in the field, and Father Julian and the king reuniting. Those were the unfinished threads as they now stand. Of course, if there's more interest after, we can keep going, but I'd like to at least end the "campaign," as it were.
  14. Good post, Kobold. Question for you - is Arsenal likely to remember Arvin Weeks (apparently high up in Vondra's intelligence system) and give him air clearance? Or is there likely to be a verbal slugfest that is only exacerbated when he finds out that Weeks is riding a sparking dragon? Or both? In other news, fusion cuisine is quite excellent. For lunch, we made a West African peanut butter soup, alongside baked salmon seasoned with a smoky dry rub, and an asian salad of bok choi, mandarin oranges, green onions, and almonds. Just to make some folks drool.
  15. Now Salem's a possibility. The only plans I'm aware of are for characters eventually moving there. Although Soulcaster might be a little OP for Paladin to take out and replace... That is, if that is even a canon future anymore...
  16. I like the idea of a new town (Sparks, another one?!), but Bend has complications. Team Paladin just passed through, eliminating the overlord - a fire Epic with flight and a Steelheart-esque prime invincibility in a fight that burned down half the town. Before that, apparently Sightline went through, killing every Epic that could die from an incredibly high fall. So actually, I guess Bend could work, but Soulcaster would have to be a new tenant. And there wouldn't be much of the town left to rule, unless he was after it for purely sentimental reasons.
  17. Right. I'll edit that real quick...thanks. I've only been able to sporadically check this. I tried to make sure that I got everything reasonably consistent. Hopefully that was the only major error (other than the time). Arvin's message (not Guardian ) was about 30 seconds. I'd like to time it to come right after Shiny Sparkle leaves the HQ place. Arvin's less than a half-hour (as the dragon flies) from The Dalles, and so should show up soon. Guardian's force fields are permeable from the inside to all classes of matter and energy.
  18. Team Paladin post up, will be entering the battle with Deathwish and Frequency. Mail, just in case you couldn't tell, that was Frequency Ranger just shot at. Also, Kobold, when you have a minute, can I get Arsenal's response to Arvin's radio broadcast?
  19. From a quarter mile away, the fight on the outskirts of The Dalles was oddly silent. Figures dodged and weaved, clods of dirt and bullets flying through the air as they fought. But no noise reached Ranger as he crouched in the upper branches of a tree, scoped sniper rifle following the action. "Status update, Ash?" That was Thomas. Normally they called him the Paladin, but for a few days right after he resurrected, he seemed to prefer his old name, and to use theirs. The ones from before any of this had happened. "Seems to be at least two factions. I can't tell if there's more. One seems to be a flight Epic. Another is throwing clods of dirt around - rather inefficiently, but it seems to be effective. I'd guess limited earth control powers. A third one has been shattering bullets. I'm not sure what kind of power that involves, but it seems potent. He appears to be one of the central combatants. There's others, but I can't tell what their powers are or what side they're on." "Good enough. Recommend to engage?" "Unclear, Tom. I can't tell which side to support, if any. And until I know the defensive powers of everyone involved, I'm not sure I want to. I'd certainly rather not risk my own bullet flying directly back at me." "Fair enough objection. Do you feel confident enough engaging the one who's been shattering bullets? If that's his primary defense against the existing flying bullets, you should be rather safe. As far as sides go, engage the one that's winning. They're all Epics, so we'll have to eliminate them all eventually. Might as well even the odds so that they kill each other." Ash pondered briefly. "As you wish, sir. Guardian, a field please?" The shimmering radiance of Guardian's force field flickered into place around him. He sighted his rifle on the tall one who had just shattered a few more bullets and pulled the trigger. * * * * * * Arvin woke in the late evening sun to find the dragon preening its wings. Ari was watching with complete delight, laughing out loud as the dragon cleaned itself. She turned towards him as he stood. "You're awake, sleepyhead! Is it time to go home now? Sheri is ready to take us home right now!" He looked towards her, a little bemused. "Sheri? Oh, of course. The dragon." And I never expected to say that sentence in my life. "Certainly, Ari. It's time to go home now." Thankfully, his mobile was still on his belt. Riding that dragon through the hail of anti-aircraft fire Arsenal could put out would have been murder. In more ways than one. As he and Ari climbed on the dragon's back, he switched his mobile to broadband mode. "Weeks to Arsenal. Repeat, Arvin Weeks calling Arsenal. Requesting permission to enter The Dalles airspace in an unidentified transport vehicle. Please respond." The dragon lifted off the mountainside, and the air rushed past his face. He let out a childish whoop of delight, hoping that he had let go of the transmit button on the mobile beforehand.
  20. So I've been working on some worldbuilding ideas recently, only to find that they really don't fit into Edassa. So I have decided to spin them off into a new setting of their own (still in the same universe, just not the same planet). I'm rather excited by the possibilities here. The planet is named Karcheron. It has several sizeable landmasses, but is dominated by a large supercontinent in the southern hemisphere. This supercontinent is, in turn dominated by a massive desert in the center of the continent, which extends to the eastern edge - defined by a range of mountains the size of the Himalayas. Civilization exists along the edge of this desert, in the valleys of the mountains and near the foothills, where access to rock and aquifers is possible. In the center of the desert, the dunes can reach several hundred meters deep, and any underground water is inaccessible. Kingdoms around the desert maintain fleets of "dune ships," wooden vessels that run on skids and are propelled by sail if necessary. I'm looking forward to exploring this "naval" combat. More details to come, but a sample of other features (to be explored in their own due time) will include sentient non-humanoids, massive sea monsters, large, carnivorous winged reptiles, and albino warrior tribes...
