As Brandon would answer (I'm being daring and not providing sources this time: sorry, bad person) <I don't know for sure> Something to the effect of "that's like asking me to pick my favorite child, but I'd say the most fulfilling was WoK/The Stormlight Archive" Yes. <I don't know for sure> No. Yes.

You could alternatively have gotten $5-off coupons from Crafty rather than the extra download codes, I believe: they might well still be willing to let you exchange them if you get in touch. EDIT: Note that, if you choose to continue your generosity instead, this does not constitute a "reply", since I've already got a digital copy of the MAG.

You'll have a fairly large number of author quotes to pull from, if you're interested. Just searching "Frodo" on Theoryland gets you a lot of interesting hits; of particular note is how he uses LoTR as an example in "wonder-based" magic quite a lot and how the whole backstory for Mistborn was the idea of telling the story of what happens after the mythical hero fails on his quest, "what if Sauron got the ring" type of thing—though in this case it's more "what if Sam killed Frodo and took the ring." Brandon also uses LoTR as examples in at 2 out of 3 of his "Laws" on writing magic systems.

That possibility is somewhat doubtful based on how Brandon's been talking about the SciFi trilogy; there's much talk of FTL and Allomantic space battles and other such science fiction thingies, and none of this really comes across as all that compatible with simply hopping from planet's-surface to planet's-surface using a method which, if you have the right mastery of the right magic system, can be achieved by Renaissance-tech individuals and/or small organizations. Beyond that we do have a quote from Brandon where he specifically says that Scadrian FTL will involve "propelling" spaceships, which suggests some form of movement through space rather than the virtual-teleportation from place to place that Shadesmar would imply. Actually, it's a simpler than that: outer space is shrunken in the Cognitive Realm mostly because there's no thinking/perceiving things in it.

Loveable Characters you actually don't care about....

What's a patrick? -
He's been plugging the Coppermind pretty hard these last few posts; making me feel a bit guilty for not contributing more...

Brandon's at it again, answering a few more questions just recently.

You might want to just transform spaces into lines like Turos did back in the day, Harakeke.

I'll say I pretty much saw it coming with Moash. Lots of his lines I was like "this man is a bad influence, please make him stop talking to Kaladin."

Put simply, yes. It's a matter of degrees. The game very very much spoils the first Mistborn book, then after that if you're careful you can probably get away with only mechanical spoilers (full details of how magic systems work and the like) on the rest of the original trilogy. As for the Alloy supplement, that one just spoils the heck out of everything under the sun.

DOUBLE POST!!!! Okay, not all that much more luck than you, Weiry. I picked up a handful more words, but not many. From Brandon's answer, it seems like the question was about standing up to highstorms/stormlight, and how standing against it is important in some magical sense. Q: [...]Profound, that's all I can say: profound, all of your work. The thing that really struck me is the concept of Stormlight; light [...] storm [...] stand [...] actually raw powerful [...] stand up to it [...] the energy from it. Brandon: If you stand up to it? Q: Well, meaning it's... Brandon: There is definitely a- particularly with with the Parshendi, you need to go in and stand against it to get what happens, yes. Q: Profound, that's all I was going to say. I appreciate it.

Yeah, wow that's faint. I can pick up a few more words than you got on my recording, I'll try to parse it out later tonight. EDIT: For those interested, my on-the-spot theorizing for what Vin "sensed" about Hoid was that the humming (I misremembered it as "whistling" at the time) he was doing was in Perfect Pitch. I hereby hold this as my current headcanon. I hate to burst your bubble here, but the "now you're thinking with portals" Brandon said to me was referencing Portal the video game: part of the marketing campaign/concept was that you had to really wrap your head around the mechanics of the thing in order to solve various puzzles using such novel tools. Or you were referring to the WoT/Jain Farstrider quote, in which case please ignore me.

Reckonerverse Questions: A Humble Appeal
Kurkistan replied to Kobold King's topic in Events and Signings
Now that is a very interesting question, which would give us insight into the relationship between physical manifestations and the interference of compatible but distinct investitures... *Ahem* You raise a good point and I apologize for not even for the most fleeting of moments ever considering the possibility of asking a Reckoners question during my own opportunities. I myself have historically been largely dependent on the charity of others to ask my burning questions (I still owe Shardlet for all the time bubble questions he asked back when we could count the number of bubble-related WoBs on one hand, with a finger to spare), so it would be poor form for me to deny the requests of others. I'll try to keep an eye out for this master-list of yours and ask one of them if next I get an opportunity.- 14 replies

Ah, okay. Sorry, forgot you were Mr. Theoryland God for a moment and thought you meant that post as a more long-term solution. Carry about your day, citizen.
-
Weiry, I'd very deeply advise a new thread for this, rather than post #43 of this one. -Also, do you intend to indicate when questions in an otherwise-replied-to post were ignored (not phrasing this harshly, Brandon picking and choosing is fine) also? That kind of thing is a bit less firm than a flat-out RAFO, but information might still be gleaned from it.
-
Yeah, I've noticed a number of only partially-answered questions. I guess that's what we get for asking a few more than is strictly average...
-
I espoused the Kaladin/Helaran theory (I think), so go right ahead. It is quite satisfying when little "this is obvious to me for... reasons" theories that don't necessarily have all the proof in the world backing them up get confirmed.

Theory: Aslydin is a member of the Seventeenth Shard
Kurkistan replied to Lightflame's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I'd honestly forgotten that we even knew Aslydin's name, and apparently its etymology is important, so I guess we should really stop referring to her as "Demoux's girlfriend". -
I didn't bring it up constantly, that I can recall. There was the epic-level hijacking of Windy's thread, then after that I think all there was was just the one "hey does anyone have questions for me to ask?" thread where I offered a question that presupposed Denth having the Locks: this leading to further contention and the bet.

Theory: Aslydin is a member of the Seventeenth Shard
Kurkistan replied to Lightflame's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I was actually just coming by to let you know this theory was confirmed, but you beat me to it. "Lightylantern", I presume? -
Oof, tragic.
-
You could certainly ask that, since it's open to everyone.

I think you mean "why isn't", here?
