  1. UPDATE: New info from Brandon: Source (~2:00 in the recording): So I'm wrong . On the plus side, I think we can still salvage a reason for broams to last longer than chips: they're bigger than chips, so thus probably better cut—as we got from the discussion which Gloom's point provoked—and/or less flawed.
  2. Update 3 (TRIPLE DOUBLE POST!!!!!) Some info from Brandon: Source: Then he PAFO'd a question about if Resealing was a subset of Forging, with a lean towards "yes": (See source above): EDIT: I PM'd Peter, and he was kind enough to respond toot-sweet. No link because this is literally just a PM between me and Peter, so you'll just have to trust me . So yes-ish. Ish. I'll take it, though.
  3. I'm posting this on behalf of Herowannabe over on SteelMinistry.com, since I don't think he has an account here. He went to the signing tonight and asked some questions. Here's his post and I will copy-paste the text below: P.S. He also had some new info on the fact that objects can get "full" of Investiture, which he mentioned on reddit back during the AMA, but which I don't think we have noticed yet: Link
  4. Ah. Well, in that case, then I will simply never forgive you. Easy enough .
  5. Sorry, we weren't blaming you. I imagine that it can be a bit fluster-inducing to be up there in front of him.
  6. Put all the spikes in a cat?
  7. :'( It was more about the Pulser being in the speed bubble than strict intersection...
  8. Yes, it is quite good.
  9. No, not that thread. I just linked to the proof that Cognitive aspects guide healing. Now if you want scarring, you could look at this thread, or this other one.
  10. I agree that "Grandmaster" is more likely: knowledge of the future gives you extra shadows, then. I don't think that Seers not seeing their own shadows is evidence of anything, though: Atium's just an external metal, with Electrum filling in the "see your own fate" category.
  11. Yes.
  12. Yeah, that looks like an error. Thanks. I'll get it.
  13. Buy. Our understanding of Realmatics as is is fairly accurate, and will not be brutally eviscerated by another book down the line.
  14. I buy it. I think that Rithmatist Spoilers
  15. I'm not so sure about the end of Lanscaper's point (note: it's always best to link directly to such things, even if a quick Google will get the job done). Bronze and Zinc are both Cognitive, so their mechanisms are almost similarly "floaty" rather than being a matter of chemistry.
  16. Mayhaps the uniquely Scadrian thing about Hemalurgy is that you need Scadrian metals to do it?
  17. I, for one, have never noticed nor been annoyed by a prevalence of "saying". On a related note: Chill, Aetae.
  18. An astute point, bookworm. ...which is why I (and some others, I believe) posit that soulcasting involves going through the Cognitive aspects of objects (in Shadesmar) as interfaces to get to their Spiritual parts. So you aren't changing the Cognitive which causes a change in the Spiritual/Physical: you're changing the Spiritual using a Cognitive interface.
  19. @Kads As I thought (at least in broad strokes), but then we got this from Shardlet: Source: @Moogle Perhaps, though I doubt it. How exactly are they supposed to benefit from Hemalurgy (stealing Scadrian Investiture) in order to benefit from Hemalurgy if they can't yet benefit from Hemalurgy?
  20. A fair amount, but not much if it's accompanied by "this evil soul-Forger just stamped me and now I feel a new affection for him..."
  21. Sorry, I tend to forget that not everyone likes reading reams of technical and tangential argumentation. I agree that a "temporary" stamp is likely a possibility, and perhaps even feasible in many circumstance. Thought disagrees. The argument centered around the idea of whether you could make such "surface-level" changes without also accounting for changes in personality and related aspects of that person's history. Ex: So I wanted to have a Forger have had her arm cut off 10 years before, and accomplish this by just stamping "I got my arm cut off that one time ten years ago" and going about her day. Thought was of the opinion that an amputation would have profound psychological impacts, as well as impacting the course which the Forger's life took, and so we would have to account for that in any stamp which tried to cut off an arm. While I disagreed with Thought about the depth of explanation required to make an amputation stamp stick, I think that he was on the right track when it comes to skills. Becoming a locksmith or a kung- fu master is not a matter of on/off: it's a way of life and a major event within that life. So you need something more than "trained as a lock smith" to get away with it. I do agree, though, that you can probably get away with something slightly more simple than Shai's full 26-hour stamps. As far as temporary memory-stamping: that might work, I think. I would guess that the more "fundamental" the change is, the more you'd need to justify it in the Forgery. So "your dog died" might be doable for a bit without much embellishment. ----- Tangent: Note of fact: Shai was happy once her final stamp lasted for a minute; this showed that "The stamp had taken, at least for the short term." So it seems that 1 minute might be the lower-bound for any "real" stamp taking, and imply that it will last longer. Just a tangential thing I thought might be useful going down the road. Also, Gaotona's stamps only lasted for ~1 minute each, not 15, though the "aftershocks" last for an hour, it would seem.
  22. Things that just flat-out don't work don't take for any time at all. Like Shai's incorrect mark for why Ashraven became the Emperor. So there is a lower limit below "sticks for a day". This is on a somewhat similar vein to the discussion I had with Phantom Thought in this thread, and the feasibility of such "spot" marks might well be tied to which of us is right at the end of the day.
  23. Normally, I'd be inclined to agree with that kind of opinion, Pech. The problem is, Brandon has historically been scary-good at thinking of everything. And I mean everything. The only real inconsistency I can think of is Feruchemical brass, but that was more a high-level whoopsie than a "how this works" one, and he managed to Realmatically square it. Well, and perhaps how attributes are stored in Feruchemy, but there's still some wiggle room there.
  24. Ah, that argument. The fact that the first reply starts with "You're wrong" is not a good sign.
  25. NECRO! Just an update on the Ruinous hearing discussion: Source:
