1. Puck, judging from your sig, I have to ask: did you just auto-Espouse my theories?
2. If it makes you feel even better, in the version I read, the chapter title had been Shadesmar. It must have been changed on one of the last drafts. Hopefully Peter thinks this isn't revealing too much, but people got ABMs. It's not a huge secret, guys. I'm really wondering how an Elantrian would get there, and what someone would have to do on Scadrial to get to Shadesmar.
3. I'm not so certain honorspren (or any spren that have bonded with someone) are Splinters. Maybe, but I'm not espousing it anytime soon. I'm not convinced Seons and Skaze are Splinters either. I agree that theory has merit, but I'm holding off because I don't know enough to be certain of their natures. Let's assume Syl, as honorspren, is a Splinter. Honorspren, when they are not bound to a person, return to being regular spren. Does this mean they are no longer Splinters? That's silly. I don't know of the mechanics of Seons, either. Do Seons stop existing when their master dies? I don't know enough about "Passing" a Seon to say. It's entirely possible that Shardblades are Splinters, dude. It's pretty dang powerful, so it's a possibility. The only confirmed Splinter is that Divine Breath, right? It's a segment of a Shard's power. It can be moved from person to person. I can re-Invest that Divine Breath into someone else. Now, the transference aspect could simply be related to Endowment's Intent, but honorspren do not feel in the same class as a Divine breath. Divine breath is not sentient. All of these other "potential" Splinters are. This does not feel right to me. Tangent: One could argue that a divine Breath caused something to be sentient, as in, keeping the Cognitive aspect of the Returned alive. Similarly, Kaladin is "giving" Syl sentience. Now, we don't know the mechanics of the creation of Seons, but it probably requires some Cognitive input. I'm completely undermining my point above that spren aren't Splinters, but whatever. If Seons are stealing their masters "Cognitive" power, well, I'd say there's some credence to that idea. Same with masters dying without Passing the Seon, so the Seon dies. Raoden didn't die, but he was messed up, and it messed up Ien. Like I said, we don't know enough about Seons to say. Though "Pass the Seon" sounds like a fun children's game.
4. Only divine breath is confirmed. Don't presume the others. We'll discuss it in theories.
5. He was mad (Oh yeah, those make it more fun. So this fansite eats Siluses and vomits me out...I don't if that's allegorical to anything)
6. Did Brandon explicitly allude to all those?
7. ate Silus and
8. Puck, you espouse my theories, because I am infallible. On that note I have removed the Aona and Skai's Name theory from my sig, because my theory was resolved. I didn't get Skai's name right, though. I am totally infallible, right? ...
9. Well, I'm mostly entertained by good storytelling, but I get your point.
10. I'm a cosmere addict. That's why I'm here. I must know! Puck said he had to paint his bathroom before he'd post this. I was just, uh, encouraging him. Yeah.
11. If we're posting replies on the content, move it to General Theories. I posted a topic on Shadesmar and Sel and my thoughts on that. And if I may gloat, I totally twigged to the Splinters being fragments of power, not people (though since I didn't post a codified theory on the subject, you can call crap on me). He always referred to Splinters as power, if you look closely.
12. From Puck's Vericon report: So, let's chew on it. On a base level this is very interesting, since we know a Dula is on Roshar. They world-hopped somehow, and Brandon said that Hoid (world hopper extraordinaire) is very good at manipulating Shadesmar to get around. That implied in my head that he used Shadesmar to travel around, always. But clearly not all the time. Not on Sel. This is almost certainly due to Odium's Splintering of Aona and Skai's power. Something very bad happened there, and that caused something to happen to Shadesmar there. It also explains why Hoid/the letter writer was so disturbed. Odium's power has tangible effects on the realms. (I've heard that Shadesmar is considered the Cognitive Realm). So. We know of the Dor, which has a lot of destructive force. Seems rational to me that perhaps the Dor exists in Shadesmar, and if you travel there, you just get vaporized.
13. And we're wrong about Dahkor completely. Hmmm. 14. Tantalizing. Tantalizing.
15. Good point. I mean, I suppose I can always get into the Admin CP and do it directly, but I'd rather not do that.
16. Shiro is in league with everyone. Since when do you have a PS3? This is news to me.
17. Hey, it's just changing the layout. Mostly. Okay, there might be a little more content there.
18. HURRY AND PAINT YOUR BATHROOM SO WE CAN GET OUT COSMERE CLUES!
19. This is a few months old, but maybe you guys haven't seen it. Brandon and Brent Weeks pitch questions at each other. It's a pretty good read: http://bordersblog.com/scifi/category/brandon-sanderson-and-brent-weeks/
20. I'm playing Pokemon Black. Lots and lots of Pokemon.
21. I think the 3D could be extremely gimmicky. I'm more excited about the additional processing power. If I feel like some 3D, or I heard a game used it especially well, then I'll use it. Really, it's supposed to be a system that you have to see to believe. I'm quite excited to play around with one at Walmart.
22. It makes me wonder if there is a special name for a Twinborn which has both abilities in the same metal. I'd have to choose Allomantic brass and Feruchemical zinc. Soothing + mental speed? Heck yes. The mental aspects always appeal to me more than the physical ones.
23. I always liked what Theoryland did, with Factions. You could join a faction of a specific theory and support it in that obvious way. Well, since I always want 17S to be Brandon's Theoryland, let's do something similar and post the theories you support in your signature! Rules: 1. If you are the creator of the theory you are espousing, put a star by it. There's no need to only espouse your own theories. Just because I'm doing it doesn't mean anything. Do as I say, not as I do... 2. Try to keep spoilers out of the title of the theory. For example, you wouldn't want to espouse a theory like "Sazed is Going to Roshar," for obvious reasons. Obfuscate it to something like "Shards Traveling to Roshar" or something. I don't know how you would rephrase that particular theory, but we really don't want to spoil an ending from a frickin' forum sig. That would be ridiculous. 3. Link to the original theory topic on 17th Shard. 4. Don't espouse theories that Brandon has explicitly confirmed (like the Almighty's Shard name). At that point, they aren't theories, but facts. This is supposed to create discussion on new ideas. Your new ideas should give a different take on the given facts, not contradict them. 5. Format it like so: Espoused Theories: Theory #1 Name, etc. It's not a perfect system, but let's try it for now. The obvious problem involves when we have a ridiculous amount of theories. It's not a problem now, but it could be later. What do you think of this idea? Have any ideas to make it run more smoothly?
24. I agree with this completely. Of course, the problem with Sel is less that Devotion is destroying things, its that whatever Devotio's Splinters are (Skaze or otherwise) are twisting that Intent even further.
25. So the 3DS is coming out soon in the US. What are all your thoughts on the subject? It's too pricey for me to buy on launch. And while I've always thought 3D is a gimmick, I think this system is the best use for 3D ever.
