Well, no, I just wanted baffle you with science But hey, giving you an excuse to write is good too!
-
I don't understand. What do you mean by "assuredness movement"? EDIT: Found it. Yeah, I can see that. I'm okay with that.
-
You're kind of splitting hairs. Kelsier's Spiritual component was obviously a part of that interaction as well. We don't really know the precise Realmatics of how a Shard's bond works, so Shardmind is very premature. There is more than just a mind at work. But that's beside the point. I don't care about that much. The term is imprecise and it sounds nasty.
-
Their body is still theirs, however. Linked to that entity--the entity of the Shardholder in some way. Considering we are talking about Ati, Leras, etc., and some of our biggest evidence that a human (of whatever variant) holds a Shard comes from that body, it seems premature to call Leras a Shardmind. It does not fit for the usage we require in theories. Really, Shardholder is a very natural term to use, and it's naturalness and ease of use makes it a favorable term, regardless of any potential confusion. I haven't seen anyone on the boards get Shardholder and Shardbearer confused. I do want to get a 17S terms guide up so new members can know what terms mean what. (Another term we use is that 17th Shard refers to this site. Seventeenth Shard refers to the in-world organization) EDIT: A possible, more general term for Shardholder could incorporate the fact that Shards can be bound to an object, which Josh said is the case.

I don't like ShardMind or Shardmind for two reasons. One: Halo. Graveminds. Enough said. Secondly, from a Realmatic perspective it is more than simply a mind. Clearly, since when Preservation died, you saw the Shardholder's body fall. Shardmind implies it's just the Cognitive aspect, which is not true.

Hyphens are not preferable, and Shard is far too canonical for us to refer as something different.
-
Hey, you come up with something that doesn't sound totally ridiculous, I could be persuaded Shardholder also has a nice symmetry to Shardbearer, which is a good thing. This is an improvement over people referring to Shardholders as Shardbearers themselves, before we switched terms.
-
Read Side Jobs, by Jim Butcher. Man, that was excellent, too.
-
Oooh, very nice job! I like them a lot. You should totally upload them to the gallery

Yeah, I know Brandon doesn't like the term Shardholder, but he implied that the person becomes the Shard itself. That's fine for him, but we need a term to refer to the person, and Shardholder is 17th Shard standard. We'll change it if Brandon gives us a canonical term that does the same thing. That Brandonothology page desperately needs formatting. Sorry about that. For the purposes of citations, I want to split up each specific Q&A in there to their separate pages. The organized Brandonothology is: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ipqNXbkWKALSs8-O5m2XRLW5gxPDKFaI72l9imF-DWs/edit?hl=en_US

Don't worry about it! That's part of the wiki fun--it should be spontaneous. I think you make a good argument for your case.

Er, "original" holders of their respective Shards is a difficult thing to exactly pinpoint, because we don't know the circumstances Adonalsium Shattered. But for all practical purposes, yes, those are the names of their Shardholders. Those are the people typically associated with Ruin, Preservation, Honor, etc. Bavadin is indeed a Shardholder, but we don't know what Shards he holds. When Joe gets on I'll let him know what you're doing with categorization. I don't have a problem with it, per se, but he has strong opinions on how he categorizes stuff. He's our caretaker, but he doesn't much like making content. I do very much like the content you've been putting out. I don't know if he had strong opinions on giving articles to Shards which cover the Shardholders as well. Granted, we don't really know much about the Shardholders themselves, so I can see an argument for just referring to Shards directly, kind of like how that list goes on the Cosmere template that you see at the bottom of a lot of those articles. Those Shardholder articles could be almost uselessly short. So I don't know yet. Carry on until we figure something out (always a good policy to have). As for "Aona's Shard", I think that's a pretty safe choice. We'll see what our main wikiers (the Worldbringers) say

Wow. Yeah, I wouldn't want to know about aneurisms either... Why not listen to some nice lectures on particle physics? That sounds much more fun

I like the Field Museum. I clicked the link to the Museum of Science and Industry. And ugh, Body Worlds. When that exhibit came to OMSI (a museum in Portland), that was one of the more uncomfortable experiences I've had. See, I'm fine with blood. If something is bloody, I'll say, "Hey, salty!" I really would rather not know how my central nervous system works, or all that other stuff. I like math and physics. Seeing spines and muscles makes me significantly less pleased. It's kind of bizarre, but god, Body Worlds was not fun.
-
Hey, that's about when Sarah (aforementioned fake sister) got rid of hers So what's your major these days? I don't know of any, but that's mostly a function of me not going there very often. Their museums, however, are quite good.
-
I got to be in Chicago when Tut was there a few weeks back. Very cool. Heh, one of my close female friends (who's pretty much my fake sister) had a boyfriend like that. I'm glad she's rid of him, and I'm glad you're rid of yours.
-
Sounds like a loser to me.
-
Hey, I was born in Chicago. I have family there. Also, making fun of you for liking mainstream fantasy? That sucks. They clearly are losers who are not secure in themselves

Haha yes. I mean, my sun is WAY better than your sun. So there. Too busy reading to care

I dunno, it sounds like something you would say, and using the Search command on the board would just be downright easy. I will have none of that Ugh, sorry to hear that you've had worse. I had a crazy ex once. It never got to stalking territory, but god, that was awful. Oh yes. Sunny. I'll just plug that into the Stalk-O-Rama 10000. I'm sure it will figure something out.
-
Er, hi Freja! It seems people have already talked about me... This is what I get about making a joke about stalking, haha. Though I do stalk the forums, that's mostly harmless. Mostly involves hitting refresh a lot. Really, about the worst stalking I can even manage, if I tried, is Facebook stalking, and their search algorithm is a piece of crap. So! Anyways! I'm Chaos/Eric and I am not a stalker. I'm the forum administrator, and I like blabbing about theories a lot. I'm an aspiring writer who lives in Montana--which some people (Eero) call Hoth, despite the fact it is quite sunny outside right now and not at all snowy. I'm also a math major, because that is how I roll--with moments of inertia.

Awesome. Totally went up on the main page.

So you aren't at WorldCon, like Josh and Mi'ch are (those losers), but there are some goodies coming your way this week regardless! Tor.com has a sweepstakes going where you can win a print of the Mistborn Trilogy ebook cover (the image in this article), by Sam Weber. It will be signed by both Brandon and Sam, so this is pretty awesome. In my opinion, this cover is the best of any in the Mistborn trilogy, and that's saying something, since there are some excellent covers there. You have until noon Eastern time on August 22nd to enter, and all you need to do is comment on Tor's blog post. That was easy. Magical Link of Print-ness!

Yeah. It is definitely rather weird, but if you look in the 17th Shard Interview last August, he does heavily imply that that Roshar is the name of the planet. Since Yolen is the name of a planet, it seems that Roshar is the name of one, too. Seems clear from context. EDIT: Okay, I found the explicit confirmation. It's in the Brandonothology (which you can find in Zas's signature), and that specific instance was from the Barnes and Noble Q&A.
