The Splintercast Reads Words of Radiance, Episode 1: Part 1 and Interlude 2

We have a treat for you today. Our illustrious and radiant (see what I did there?) Alyx, also known as FeatherWriter, is doing a very special podcast series where she records her live reactions as she reads Words of Radiance for the very first time. There is crying. There is sobbing. Fangirling. Descent into sleep-deprived madness. It's everything you'd ever want from a reaction podcast, and I guarantee 40% more people will fall in love with her than before (in which case, back off.).

So how The Splintercast Reads is going to work is that Alyx records her reactions and edits out the silence. If you were wondering how she could go so fast through a chapter, that's because of Hollywood magic. Or at least basic sound editing skills. Same thing.

In today's entry--and we will be posting these daily--Alyx finishes Part One and does the second interlude. Since she read the sample chapters and wants these reactions to be of her first reading, she's skipped the samples in this series. But absolutely everything else will be recorded for you to hear, love, and of course, lovingly mock.

So, without further adieu, I introduce you to the Splintercast. And where does it start? Well, the infamous chapter 7, of course:

(Obviously, this will have spoilers for the chapters that are being discussed!)

Light above, I hope everyone enjoys this craziness.

EDIT: Wait a second. Can other people hear these? I can't get them to play.

I can hear them, I only listened to the first few seconds to check if I could though. My copy is yet to arrive :(

My reaction to Feather's reaction:

Did she just say, "Oh, Harmony!" and really mean it?  It sure sounded that way.  NIce.

Oh my word this is priceless!  And so amusing, especially if you've finished the book.

Edit: Also Brandon pronounces it "YEEM" I believe.

Yeem. Interesting. (And yes. There are quite a few parts which are VERY amusing after you know what's coming.) Oh naive first-readthrough Feather. You know so little.

I liked him too.

I wish I could react this strongly. Hilarious.

Ym, the surgebinder (I think he's a Truthwatcher actually!) who gets killed in the Interludes.

I don't think that YEEM is a truthwatcher do to his healing powers. This thread outlines which Orders get access to what Surges, and the Truthwatchers don't get healing.

I'm still fairly new to the site, but am I the only one that doesn't get this? I listened to the episodes of the Shardcast before this, with the three people talking about Cosmere stuff, but this? I've read WoR and I know what she's talking about, but seriously? It's just a bunch of squealing and moaning. I don't mean to sound mean, but that's what it is. Where's the actual commentary? And sorry if I sound ever more picky, but the presentation of this wasn't great. The only thing we can hear are the reactions, and have to spend half the time figuring out exactly just what she's reacting to. The fact that she skips places doesn't help either. It would be a lot clearer if she was actually reading the book out loud, and responding to it as she did.

This is an audio reaction podcast. The initial episode skips around because some sample chapters were already released before Alyx could react.

This is not an analytical podcast, so you may want to steer away. It is a very differently styled thing, to appeal a different audience. Not to say that there aren't improvements to be made, but it probably is not your thing.

(Also, you can't exactly do a podcast reading the entire thing out loud, for obvious reasons.)

Yay @FeatherWriter you are the best! (but don't tell the other 17th sharders!) I listen to about 3-4 of your guy's podcasts a day at work so naturally I've run out of most of the main podcast material. Thanks for all your book reading reactions!
