One of the limitations of feruchemy is that you can only store a certain amount of an attribute inside a metalmind. This isn't usually an issue, because most feruchemists will never have enough investiture to run out of storage space. This might become an issue with compounding though.

My theory is that you can actually fill a metalmind more than normal if you transfer a huge amount of attributes from a large metalmind to a much smaller metalmind. There would likely be a larger amount of the attribute lost, but if you're a compounder, this won't be an issue.

We've seen something like this happen already with perfect gemstones left out in highstorms repeatedly (RoW), and that's basically what's happening with Nightblood, so I think that my theory seems possible.

Well... you probably could overfill a metalmind somehow, but, uh, have you seen Nightblood? He's constantly leaking the excess investiture whenever he's not sealed in aluminum. The way I see it, there is a certain limit to the investiture-mass ratio, beyond which the "pressure" inside the object exceeds whatever force keeps the investiture inside the object. That results in the investiture leaking out of the object, like stormlight out of normal gemstones or black smoke out of Nightblood. Perfect gemstones are different for some reason, maybe because they have a stronger force keeping the stormlight inside of them, allowing to hold more stormlight. Regardless, if you somehow managed to shove extra investiture into a metalmind, the most likely outcome would be all the excess investiture leaking out of the metalmind.

Honestly I think Nightblood becomes an active Perpendicularity when drawn, at this point.

Metalmind capacity has seemingly been inconsistent. I think it's because there is still plenty of aspects of Feruchemy we don't know. The Bands are a multitude of Metalminds woven together in an oversized spearhead. That means each individual Metalmind must be a good deal smaller than the spearhead that can be held in one hand. They had way more Investiture in them than any other Metalmind than we have ever seen. So a LOT of power can be put into a very small amount of metal for sure. Even the gold band that Wax grabbed in BoM had more health than Wayne had ever been able to store. Though admittedly he uses his health fairly frequently so he may not be the best example. A better example might be that Wax was able to store years worth of Weight in two Iron bracers at an almost constant rate of 1/4th his body weight. Though we know he did tap it at least somewhat frequently.

Some random guesses as to this discrepancy can be address?

-Skill level of Feruchemist

-Having a lot of a trait (either from Compounding or your suggestion of Tapping a larger Metalmind) creating a 'pressure' that forces it into a smaller metal

-Identity takes up a lot more room in a Metalmind than Brandon has implied

-Because we've never had a character perspective of them truly 'filling' their Metalmind completely, we underestimate how much can be stored

-There's a way to modify the metal to accept more Investiture

Could you just put the leaky metalmind in an aluminum sheath like Nightblood, then draw it when you needed to tap it? Or maybe coat most of the metalmind with aluminum, but leave a small section uncovered. It would still leak, but it should be slower.
