Why did Brandon choose "scud" for Skyward?

Why is the curse in the skyward world "scud"? Where did Brandon get this idea?

I don’t know if Brandon did this intentionally, but a scud missile is a type of surface to surface missile, as well as a term for the action of moving fast in a straight line when driven by the wind. In Ireland its apparently a term meaning a harbinger of bad luck, and its also Scottish slang for naked. 

Personal crack theory: Some Scottish guy on old earth walked into a locker room at an awkward moment and yelled “scud!” And it caught on.
