Question

So, I was wondering if there are any theories about how a heavily invested individual could leave their own planet.

I know it probably has something to do with connection, but wouldn't Kelsier be able to store that in a metalmind and leave Scadrial if that were the case?

Theory:  Such a person would need a properly Connected Physical Form so that they can be a Real Boy and not an Investiture Ghost.  Having the Form makes him closer to a normal living person, instead of having an existence that needs constant Investiture to support.  Notice how Ishar was trying to "make Bodies" for spren that would match their Cognitive Aspect fully.  I think he's trying to Grow himself a Real Body (as opposed to whatever the Heralds are using right now) that he can use as a Vehicle to leave Roshar, and he's using Spren as the closest Test Subject he could find short of another Herald.

With regards to certain experiments, would it be fair to say Ishar and a certain Scadrian have similar goals?

Brandon Sanderson

*hesitation noises* I don't know that I would say that 100%. The certain Scadrian you reference has been able to achieve the goals that he wants. Let's see if I can circumlocute this: there's a certain set of bones floating around that already has a Connection to this individual, which was useful in achieving what he wanted to do, which is not a luxury that Ishar has.

I've recently started wondering if Kelsier's problem is less him being a Cognitive Shadow at this point and more him being a Sliver of Preservation.

Based on the WoB Quantus posted, it sounds like he already has a decent link to the Physical Realm. But he's now been fundamentally altered by Preservation's Investiture and Preservation is heavily tied to Scadrial. We know Shards have some difficulty leaving the world they are Invested in, so maybe something similar is happening to Kel.

The Hearalds have difficulty leaving Roshar, but they aren't slivers. Also, Vasher can leave Nalthis, but he is a cognitive shadow, so something is up with him.

I was referring specifically to Kelsier's problem.

Vasher has his original body. Kel, presumably, has his original bones. The Heralds as far as we are aware don't have any part of their original body. They are just Cognitive Shadows that somehow have been given a body.

Edit: on a related note, I wonder how far Kel can go from Scadrial. In Secret History he went out a couple of days distance without any real problems

Heralds, can leave the planet, but not the system.

Vasher can leave, but he had to find a workaround, without his hacks, he couldn't do it.

He got to the edge of the solar system, basically where Scadrial becomes Sel
