Cut a hemalurgic spike with a Shardblade

Question

Posted

The title says it all I believe, what would happen if a shardblade cut through a hemalurgic spike. Would it disconnect one's spirit from the spike making it just metal with no power or would it cut the spike in half and have two spikes with either half the power or both having the same amount of power. Someone's probably already asked this before but I'm curious if there is a definite answer. Thanks.

Have you read the Era 2 books yet? Spikes can be melted down or otherwise broken and each piece will still have some power. There's a threshold for hemalurgic decay so no matter how small the piece is or how long it's been outside contact with fresh blood, it will still have some charge. This is where all those Pathian earrings come from and why they work the way they do.

Remember that a Shardblade doesn't annihilate Investiture, it just damages it a bit, which is also what's happening when a spike is damaged through more mundane means. Whacking a spike with Nightblood would be another matter...

Spikes can be broken into multiple parts, and that can be done without a shardblade.

I'm pretty sure it depends on how hemalurgically charged it is. If it's low then the shardblade slows a bit but cuts through it, making two little spikes. But if its heavily invested ie metalmind spike then it wouldn't be able to cut it

Depends on what the Hemalurgic spike is storing, they do not have a fixed amount of Investiture (minus lowest possible Investiture level after Hemalurgic decay) so it really depends on who you spiked. If the spike stole enough Investiture, then it could conceivably block a Shardblade.
