One more tiny thing concerning the Ball.

"You men have been doing excellent," the captain said as he patrolled up and down the front of the formation of ten of the Praetorium Guard, in two rows of five. "But due to the inactivity of the palace guard, you won't be getting a break. This castle would be a hopeless mess without you men, and that's why I need you back out there." He nodded towards the five men in front, "you'll be taking the forth floor. There have been no explicit reports yet, but all manner of drunkards are wandering those halls." He stopped at the end of the line, addressing Fischer who stood there. "Take care of them."
Fischer saluted the captain, "yes sir!"
He then looked towards the men in the back row, "I know it's clerk work, but you're going to be digging through some reports for a few bribery cases. You'll get more details when you arrive at the offices." The ten men saluted and marched off to deal with their duties as the Captain went off to find the Stars' accursed captain of the palace guard. This infernal night seemed as if it would never end.

Whooop, one week later...

Nico didn’t typically dress himself up, but tonight was a special occasion. It was not often, after all, that one got to see their childhood crush/would-be-boyfriend. Despite not feeling the same way about Fischer as he had five years ago, there was left over in Nico’s heart just enough pressure to drive him to brush his hair and put on something other than his uniform or some sweaty peasant’s attire. Luckily enough for him, he managed to find a suit in the closet with minimal wrinkles that actually fit well enough. He looked over himself in the mirror - surprised at how nice he looked - then ran down to his and Fischer’s meeting spot.

Wendy woke up on something far comfier than the wooden slab that was her bunk back at the dorms. For one thing, the cushion beneath her was an actual cushion; and her head was resting on a surface much more... well, restful, than a pillow.

All the memories rushed back, making Wendy simultaneously blush furiously and pale. "Nico?"
