Scadrian Truthwatcher Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 I really like making Alethi Glyphs from an English word. It’s very calming. But occasionally, I try to make a glyph containing one or more of the letters C, Q, W or X. They don’t have phonemes. What should I do in this situation. Obviously the Alethi don’t use those letters, but what should I do if I want to? 2
Eri she/her Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 If I were in this position, I'd just make up the glyphs for those letters, inspired by the canon glyphs. 1
Honorless he/him Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 You can always use the glyphs corresponding to the closest approximate phonetic sounds. C is either K or S, X is Z or eks, Q is K, ku or Kyu, admittedly W is a different sound from U or V, but you could still use UU or VV, just like how in English we sometimes use double letters to represent a single sound (like Sh or Ph, though admittedly those are just aspirated) 2
Scadrian Truthwatcher Posted January 26, 2021 Author Posted January 26, 2021 Just been studying the Alethi Women’s Script and saw that W comes under U and C comes under K or S depending on the circumstance. I guess X would be KS and Q would be KW (KU)
