teknopathetic he/him Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 (edited) I was re-reading WoR and came across this: WoR Chapter 68 (Talking to Dalinar About Odium) "I cannot risk too much because if he finds me I then become nothing; a soul shredded and broken into pieces that cannot be reassembled. What i do here is more dangerous than you could ever know ... (Dalinar asks who he is talking about) ... the one you fight; the father of hatred" Then in Oathbringer Epilogue: "If Rayse learned that Wit were in the city he would order his forces to level it, and would consider that a cheap price for even the slimmest chance of ending him" --- But then in the RoW epilogue, Hoid goes and purposely makes himself seen and easy to find (interestingly, by going to Elokar's palace on the shattered plains and standing on stone [and probably lowering other defenses]) WHY? Why cant Odium hurt Hoid but instead can only play with breath? Hoid seemed certain he would be eradicated if he were discovered pre-RoW, but now Odium cant hurt Hoid? Has another deal been made off screen? Was Hoid safer on the stone of the palance? Does Odium need to physically apprehend Hoid? Does anyone have insight on this? XD I'm surprised you haven't seen discussions on this. The deal that Dalinar made had some clause that Odium couldn't harm hoid. Jasnah and Hoid mention it, Rayse curses his name when he reads Hoids name in the contract, Hoid mentions how it was in the contract. granted, the fact that Rayse and Dalinar started bargaining might have made people conclude that the contract doesn't matter, but they seem to have just been bargaining on some of the finer details, like what they got out of victory and defeat. 1
