LuckyJim Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Dalinar wanted Taravangian to live, but Szeth kills him. Szeth had sworn to follow Dalinar's will, and his dialogue in this scene seemed to kind of acknowledge that he was breaking his word, saying that he wasn't going to let Taravangian take advantage of his honor anymore. Skybreakers are eventually supposed to surpass the third ideal, but Szeth hadn't even started working on his fourth, so I wonder if this is going to have any negative consequences for him.
Raven Wilder Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 The Skybreakers are all about following the exact letter of the law. It's possible that, so long as Dalinar never specifically ordered Szeth not to kill Taravangian ... 1
Kingsdaughter613 she/her Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 There might be a self defense exception; from Szeth’s perspective T grabbed Nightblood to wield against him.

Szeth does not follow the law. he follows Dalinar. so as long as Dalinar is not explicitely ordering him or forbidding something hes pretty free in his actions. he would maybe have to face judgement by Dalinar later on if he is stretching the rules.
GameOfGroans Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 The scene where S kills T is preceded by a scene where S tells D he will not be in his service anymore bc "he found a higher ideal". He says he's gonna go to his homeland and do I don't quite remember what there, but one way or the other at this point he doesn't obey Dalinar anymore. 2
