Aspiring Writer Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 (edited) Okay, so a creature I have thought up off. BTW, I don't have a name for the creature yet and will take any and all suggestions. If I have enough, I might even make a poll. But back to the creature. So, imagine a squid. Now imagine a squid with three tentacles. Now imagine the squid has an eyeball between each tentacle, having three in total. Now imagine the squid's mantle aka main body/part is a bulbous sack, perfectly round. This creature floats by sucking air into its sack and heating it up, enough to lift it off the ground (It does not have to carry its full weight, as the tentacles will be holding onto things like branches. Also, this lives on land/air). When it starts losing gas, the sack shrinks and it starts to sink before sucking more air back in. WIth me so far? Okay, so the animal is a grayish-blue color, and slightly glows at night. It sucks the blood out of people and animals to survive, using what looks like spider-like fangs where the beak would be. The way it does this is that it slowly lets one of its tentacles move toward its target, latch onto it, and then pull itself onto the animal with its fairly strong grip, and it moves fast. It will inject a paralytic, though if a person doesn't struggle it will let them be. they then suck the blood out of the victim, which, assuming they're starving, will be enough to maybe leave a person dazed and dizzy but not dead. It may end up killing a dog or something of that size. Other facts: It will normally keep it's tentacles grabbing onto some branches and looking below it, and aren't too difficult to spot in an earth environment. It can regenerate their tentacles if need be. They are immune to their own paralytic and know how much is needed to keep its victim at bay. They excrete out of their mouths/fangs. So, what do you think? Edited December 1, 2020 by Aspiring Writer 2

Ixthos Luke/Luke Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 What sort of ecosystem does this creature live in? Is it an alien or a monster, and how intelligent is it?

Guest Somebody from Scadrial Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 For a name? Maybe Gripnasche, also, could you describe the culture that named it? It would help with the naming.
The Titan God he/him Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 Naming suggestions/ideas: You mentioned that it consumes blood, meaning it is hematophagous. You could definitely use this as part of a name. Secondly, it has three tentacles and three eyes. Something meaning three could be used in the name Lastly, it becomes very hot. Just an idea, but something like therm or thermal could be used. You mentioned earlier that it is alien. May I suggest the names: Hematotritherma, Trihermatotherma or Hematothermia (Hematotherm). 1
Condensation she/her Posted December 5, 2020 Posted December 5, 2020 If I were you, I wouldn't go for something scientific sounding. It's far more likely to be named by the people it would prey on, and those are usually poor people with little knowledge of science, I assume. 1

We call ourselves both humans and homosapiens.

Thank you 2) Oh yeah, that exists. Sorry, I've been grinding through RoW and been slightly busier than expected. I will indeed come back, though I am becoming far less active on the Shard than I used to and will be harder to get for a large length of time. You can try tagging starting maybe tomorrow (I need homework and lunch right now) and I will try replying eventually, if not quickly.
