I doubt she is fooled, Taravangian does not have a secret philosophy he kept hidden from all, even God. He wants to "save" the Cosmere, just as he saved Karbranth. He is consistent with how he behaved as a mortal. It doesn't take the foresight of a shard to figure out how he'll behave once ascending. The real question is if she approves. Because why else put him in position to ascend? Rayse was doomed, the power was wearing him thin and he was not handling it well. From what we know she could have easily done nothing and let Rayse fail on his own. The other shards all seem to agree, hence no help for Hoid (except Harmony who probably doesn't know better at this point). 3

End the war, put the shards in new hands, rejoin Tanavast in the afterlife. From what we've seen Eternal Life is wearisome in the Cosmere. Your soul gets thin, your personality is warped to match the power, you develop peculiar insanities etc. And lookie here, we have Lift whos’ wish was: “I said, when everything else is going wrong, I want to be the same. I want to stay me. Not become someone else.” Excerpt From Rhythm of War Brandon Sanderson https://books.apple.com/us/book/rhythm-of-war/id1489970175 This material may be protected by copyright. Could it be that Lift is groomed to be a shard holder who can control its shard and not be changed by its intent? 3
Valigus Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 I strongly agree with this but take it a step further, we have a number of very curious things that look like the kinds of things cultivation had done I think she is cultivating “perfect” vessels for all the shards who can control the intent(as we see with what she says to Todium) for example- 1. Syl is awoken by a pure tone, before coming to Kaladin, could it not be cultivation, why did nale who knew about tien not know about kaladin despite him being way more conspicuous. 2. Nale had nightblood which was given to cultivation and he then presumably gave it to szeth on cultivations orders which is odd 3. Jasnah references a psychological break she had has a child where she was declared insane and kept in the dark for a period of months which literally nobody seems to remember or ever references. this goes on and on and on

Now I suspect that Lift was altered to serve as a means of generating Lifelight anywhere on Roshar. What will Lift eventually become? So my theory on this is based on SLA 5 being The Empire Strikes Back in terms of endings. You know, not the worst case scenario but rrrrrrrrrrusting close. Last time I mentioned this theory someone asked who hurt me. Spoiler Todiums loophole is if he wins the contest and forces Dalinar to do an order he won't comply with (example: massacring innocents) the contract is broken negating any clause binding Odium to the Rosharan system. That is the only loophole I can see that actually voids the contract that doesn't involve just putting an immortal in the ring and granting Dalinars champion immortality, and all that does is extend the fight to infinity, which is in and of itself a cool idea but let's ignore it. Some people think the loophole is Odiums choice of Champion, but getting the opponent to forfeit isn't something someone as smart as a shard would call a loophole. Especially Odium, he'd just declare it a win without trickery. The consequence of this will be Dalinar separated from the Stormfather as what's left of Honor will not willingly serve Odium, this will not be a clean rip, it will count as a broken oath and the Stormfather will be rendered a deadeye. The consequence of this will be the Highstorm stops moving. Like the great red spot on Jupiter, Roshar will have an ever stationary storm. This storm will not infuse spheres. The Tower will be the only reliable source of Stormlight, as it seems to be able to generate its own Towerlight. And Lift will be the only mobile source of light. Stormlight 6 begins with Dalinar returning to Roshar like Taln, naked like Terminator and highly concerned that shits going down. Because it is, he's just refused an order from Odium and broke his binding to Roshar.

Otherwise, it could just be Nale saying that "hey, these two could have some great synergy, both being single-minded individuals. One's a weapon while the other knows how to use weapons wisely. One wants to destroy evil, and clearly things that don't follow laws are evil, and this guy knows how to follow laws! They'll get along great!" On 6/22/2024 at 12:06 PM, Valigus said: 3. Jasnah references a psychological break she had has a child where she was declared insane and kept in the dark for a period of months which literally nobody seems to remember or ever references. IIRC, Dalinar mentions it to Gavilar in one of the Oathbringer flashbacks. I think it's the one where Adolin is born. (EDIT: Just check, and it is! Part 2, Chapter 49, "Born Unto Light.") Quote "It's your daughter," Dalinar guessed. "Her lunacy." "Jasnah is fine, and recovering. It's not that." There aren't a lot of people who can reference it, looking at it now: Dalinar remembers bits and pieces of it, but Cultivation ripped away a lot more than he thought. Since this memory so clearly had Evi in it, it makes sense that he doesn't recall it, although he seemingly does know what happened. Navani clearly remembers, but none of her memories focus on it, admittedly. Maybe it's her way of trying to help Jasnah, maybe it's just that she has a lot of other things on her plate at the time. Maybe it's the reason why Jasnah and Navani aren't as close as it feels like they want to be. (They're close, but Navani notes a distance between them at times, IIRC.) Gavilar is dead, Elhokar would have been a baby at most, and Adolin was just born. Who else is there that would know or talk about it?
