I really like yall's comparison to electrical power. Makes sense with so many fused running around. I wonder if the Heralds had a similar limitation when Honor was alive. Maybe less of a limitation since there were only 10 of them.

Probably.

Could the fused be flying using the same mechanics as sky eels and great shells?

Unlikely.

  1. Kaladin would have noticed that a Fused really has a much lower mass when fighting one in the air over Kholinar's walls.
  2. No Madaras around them in Shadesmar
  3. They can fly in Shadesmar

If they needed stormlight wouldn't the great shells run out during the weeping and get crushed by their own weight?

I would say that that is the reason they have huge gem hearts. The supply has to last over a weeping without Highstorm.

My thought is the fused aren't using lashings to fly but they can use them if they want, like when they lash other people.

Generally, one Fused has one power. This looks like complicating things for no gain.

From the new chapter this week:

Quote

Kaladin found himself grinning as he followed her through a wide loop, weaving and dodging around other combatants. When he’d begun training, he’d have thought maneuvers like this turn impossible. To perform the feat, he had to constantly dismiss and renew his Lashings, each at a different angle in a loop—doing so without conscious thought—all while sculpting his motion with the rushing wind to avoid obstacles.

I think this heavily implies that the Fused are doing this same thing all the time, exactly in line with my theory! Got me really excited.
