rosin_the_beau he/him Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 (edited) A few days ago, I decided to apply my Truthwatcher perspective to @Karger's theory of Truthwatcher Ideals. Because we can now sort ourselves into our orders, I believe we should apply our understanding of our order's mindset to the Ideals that Karger presented. If you are interested, claim your order and start a topic called "(your order) Ideals according to a(n) (your order)" If such a topic exists, please put your comments in there, everyone's perspective will help and be valued. I will link to the individual pages as they show up. Thank you for your time and consideration. Links: The Quiz Edited July 10, 2020 by rosin_the_beau Adding Links 2
Halyo_Alex he/him Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 As a Lightweaver I feel like I'd just be restating the obvious, speaking meaningful personal truths, and admitting the things you may not like are true is what you'd need to speak to progress. I guess I could try and add more to it but again, it seems redundant. 1

Halyo_Alex he/him Posted July 11, 2020 Posted July 11, 2020 Just now, Watchcry said: Got any juicy truths to share with us? I worry that I can't be a good person. I've had plenty of arguments with close friends that boil over into actual anger and fighting... And it keeps happening occasionally, like a cycle. 1
Karger he/him Posted July 11, 2020 Posted July 11, 2020 I am both by quiz and temperament a Lightweaver. I have no theory on Lightweaver oaths as they are subjective and different from those of the other orders however I may as well give a my own opinion on our development. To do so I will be using the Hero's journey a summary of which can be found here for those who are not familiar. Almost every Hero begins a journey in the ordinary world(traditionally this is a farm boy but variation is of course applicable). The first and perhaps most important oddity of Lightweavers is that regardless of our profession or geographic location we do not really live in the ordinary world at the beginning of our adventure. A Lightweaver's mind is a vibrant Neverland. It contains myriad and fantastic, creatures, locations, and adventures of all kinds. I call this a "liar's palace." To us the call to adventure actually comes from the normal world. The mad place that others call ordinary. The real world can be a dangerous place for a Lightweaver. Our self image usually suffers from it. For Shallan it was desperation and financial need that drove her. For Elhokar it was a desire to prove himself. The reason for the call to adventure can be for many reasons. Sometimes they are mundane. A Lightweaver might have to engage more with the mundane because of financial reasons or because they have fallen in love or because they desire to prove themselves. We might resist these calls but eventually we usually accept. Another of our common oddities is a recklessness and curiosity that prompts us to do things we may end up regretting latter. Shallan engages in a foolhardy attempt to steal a soulcaster. Elhokar in a brash plan to save his kingdom. Both have cause to regret their actions. Traditionally a hero meets their mentor at this point. A Lightweaver's mentor is a cryptic. For most other heroes the mentor is a figure who understands the hero do to a common experience. Lightweavers instead get a being who can't understand lies any better then the Lightweaver can understand "objective truth." The cryptic can't really help the Lightweaver much beyond telling them what they need to do to advance and making them aware of what is holding them back. As Pattern says. "You cannot keep all the lies. Only the most important." This is the moment when the Lightweaver has to cross the threshold. Admit or give up a lie. Shallan had to give up her innocents. Prior to her journey Shallan's lies allowed her to be a quipping, naive, friendly, sister with an overbearing father and several loved brothers. I have to go now but I will post more later. 1
Watchcry he/him Posted July 11, 2020 Posted July 11, 2020 (edited) So I'm actually able to swear oaths for many orders. Mainly: Willshapers, Dustbringers, Lightweavers, Elsecallers, Truthwatchers, Skybreakers. I've only thought about Dustbringers so far. It's pretty funny, but here goes: Dustbringers: self mastery oaths - 2. I will refrain from being immature with my 3 year old and eliminate derogatory naming convention adjectives such as "butt" and "fart" from my vocabulary. 3. I will limit the time I spend on my favorite social media apps and dedicate that time equally towards my family, God, and yardwork. 4. I will eliminate profanity from my vocabulary. 5. I will abstain from harmful substances, to include alcohol, tobacco, drugs, and pornography. Edited July 11, 2020 by Watchcry 2
rosin_the_beau he/him Posted July 11, 2020 Author Posted July 11, 2020 Well here are my version of the Truthwatcher oaths. "I will seek Truth for the sake of Truth" "I will seek Truth for the good of all, and not for my own benefit" "I will not force others to accept the Truth" "I will accept when I am wrong"
Watchcry he/him Posted July 11, 2020 Posted July 11, 2020 Truthwatcher Oaths: 2. I will seek truth. 3. I will not take other people's word as truth without first confirming it for myself. 4. I will publish truth, and work to apply it for the benefit of all people. 5. Truth as i know it may be limited to available facts and resources. I will seek universal truth. 1
