Fresco was growing a tad frustrated. "Is there anyone else who could give me a recap?"

"Pal, I'm doing the best I can. I didn't ask to be thrown into the top of an army surrounded on all sides by the enemy." He pointed over at a group of soldiers. "If you want to know what the deal is, ask them. They've been here longer than I have."

Fresco nodded. "Thank you, good sir."

Herate nodded and tried to relax her bond. 'Let its influence flow into your target' and all that.

The withergeist surged forwards, slamming into the person and ripping the power out. In moments, they were reduced to a withered corpse.

"I don't need anything from you."

"That is because you do not know the true extent of the danger you are in."

"Yeah. Basically."

"Just because my offensive capabilities are low doesn't mean I'm powerless," replied Jeffery. "Besides, this is going to be a stealth mission. Big flashy powers will be more or less useless."

"There is more to it than that. Your emotions are going to cloud your judgement. You are so consumed by anger toward Rish that you may very well making a critical mistake. Emotions are important, but if they are going to impact your judgement then they will be a liability to us all."

"I know how to balance my emotions," replied Jeffery coldly. "And believe me, you've given me quite a bit of practice."

"I doubt it. Our stealth missions always turn into massive battles."

"Exactly why you need more stealth abilities," replied Jeffery. "If we wind up fighting Rishmaveta directly with only our current capabilities, we will almost certainly lose."

Herate cringed at the sight, but... the pain was gone. She stood, shaking slightly. "About how often do you have to do that?"

"If we have to fight her directly, the idea is to get out as fast as possible. It's her Mindscape, and I seriously doubt we can stay in there long without her noticing."

"There's a new guy, and he wants to know everything there is to know about Wyrn. Would you mind helping him out for me?"

"Not at all, sir." The soldier saluted. Then he nodded to who he assumed was the new recruit. "Follow me."

Fresco stands straight and follows the soldier.

He led the new recruit to his tent. "I figured we could sit. I don't know how long this'll take."

The soldier sat as well. "First I should introduce myself. I'm Matin."

Not pronounced that way. Ma-tin, with an 'ee' sound for the 'i'.

"Nice to meet you, Fresco. And I'll remember that. Is there anything you'd like to know in particular?

"Well, I want to make sure we stand an actual chance at winning this war. I think a brief history of events that lead up to this would be a good start. I kind of just showed up here, as far as I know."

"Well, the Lady General began to let it be known that she wanted to take Wyrn down. The army began gathering - the general coming with it - and we were actually going along pretty well. Until the Lady General heard that there was an important prisoner in one of the prison towers. So she snuck in. We don't know what actually happened, other than she gathered some important papers from Wyrn's desk but didn't get the prisoner. She disappeared. For quite a long time. A lot of the soldiers began to lose hope, and then a higher-ranked officer decided to try to storm the castle anyway." Matin looked down. "They failed. Those of us here are the ones who didn't go. We followed General Daolan, and eventually the Lady General came back. This time, she brought friends. This... Fellowship of the Thing. They were making a plan to storm the castle and get all of the army back, but the general was taken and the Lady General had to try to rescue him. I hear she tried bargaining, and when that didn't work, she broke in. Her friends returned without her and without the general. So General Fadran commands us now, and he's planning to get them both back, along with taking down Wyrn in the process."

Fresco nods. "Thanks for explaining this. Do you know what prisoner they had taken?"
