"Quite, I believe. Or, rather, the soldiers are. They believe in Wyrn as their god-king of sorts."

"Ah, so we do plan to assassinate this Wyrn?"

"That's one possible solution. Removing him, dethroning him, making him surrender... as of our current situation, then exact means of bringing him out of power are kind of unimportant. Currently, we're trying to pull ourselves out of a tough spot. I did mention that we were surrounded, right?"

I ignore his tone and grimace once again. "I was unaware that Fadran was going to question me to that end. You have every right to be a part of any plan to rescue her."

"So there is a plan?" asked Jeffery.

"What does this mean, exactly? That we're surrounded. Do they have armies around this place or something? There's no escape?"

"No. We were discussing how one might break  into a mindscape. We do not have a plan of action."

"We don't know anything for certain, but Wyrn's nation has been at the top of the food chain for ages. His fortress is just north of here, and it's surrounded by mountain ranges on all sides. It'd be foolish to assume that these mountains are undefended. The only way we have that isn't closing ourselves in further is down south... but that'd just be a glorified retreat."

"Surrounded by mountains," Fresco mused, "In one way, a strategic advantage. In another, a major disadvantage. What kind of weaponry would these defenders have?"

The shadow chuckled. "Not what we want from you, child... what you want from us."

"Basic stuff. Swords, spears, bows, arrows." Fadran looked over at the mountains. "How are the mountains a major disadvantage?"

"Ah, I remember an old military tale..." Fresco frowned. "Actually, no I don't. But point is, I know from experience that if the enemy lies in the mountains you're surrounded by, then the defenders at the bottom of the mountains are just sitting ducks."

This is true. Anyone watched "Outpost"?

I chuckle though it lacks warmth. "You think me secretive. I revealed two methods both of which carry heavy risks. My keeping the information to myself has nothing to do with being stubborn. There are secrets which are too dangerous to simply reveal. I broached it, but do not expect that I will hand you all of the secrets that you wish to be privy to."

"Yeah. We're at a huge disadvantage, which is why I'm getting Ayia to throw together an elite squad. Marching an army up a mountain is hard. sending a few well-trained warriors up a mountain? Not so much. They'll be hard to detect, difficult to counter, and easy to maneuver. We'll grab some enemy watchtowers, position our troops on the high ground, and reconfigure our plan from there."

"My daughter is trapped in there!" exclaimed Jeffery in frustration. "How am I supposed to rescue her if I don't know how to get in?"

Herate felt a sudden pang run through her abdomen, sharp as anything she'd encountered. She dropped to her knees and clenched her arms around herself, pulling harder and harder to help the pain.

The voice of the withergeist would also strengthen.

Psyder glanced at Herate. "Do you need to replenish your energy?" he asked.

"Jeff..." Fadran said. "Pal, none of us know how to get her. Just ask Jek; he's been delerious about finding her for days. We're doing the best we can with the resources we have, which at the time are very limited."

"Trying to get something out of Nath is like trying to get the center of a geode with a broken stick."

"Over here," he called to Herate.

A flicker of annoyance cuts through my neutrality. "You rescue her, by not losing control and working with us. Your going it alone will kill your daughter. I don't know how someone so wise can be such a fool. We care about her as well. Your holier than thou self righteousness is the height of hubris. You can't do it alone!! You can pretend all that you want that you don't feel guilty about the time spent away from her and that you are not letting that cloud your judgement, but I know the truth. You would doom her because you want to be a god." My voice thunders and my weariness shrivels away.

"To be completely honest, Jeff, you're not exactly in a very logical state of mind right now. Nath's right; if you knew how to get her back, you'd just get yourself killed."

"My hubris?" Jeffery scoffed. "How the pot screams... First, are you even going to listen to what I'm going to say, or will you completely ignore my words in favor of your own worldview like you did last time?"

Probably more like a stumble, to be honest. :P

"Simply relax the bonds of your withergeist and let its influence flow into your target. It will pull the life from them to feed itself- and, in turn, you."
