"Winning a war. Or... well, right now we're kinda losing, but we're working towards winning a war. Are you any good at combat?"

Fresco shrugged. "Maybe!"

"Well... if you're feeling up to it, a friend of mine is throwing together a group of warriors."

"Well, I don't think I have anything better to do. What friend, Fadran?"

"Hey, Ayia, I was just wondering, where do you get your magic from?"

"I'm not one to say. Iode was the one who knew stuff like that."

"That one over there." He pointed over at Ayia.

"I haven't seen you before. You a new guy?"

"Yep! Woke up on the ground over there. No memories or anything, unfortunately."

"Huh. Well, welcome anyways. You're gonna have to wait your turn to see what you can do, though."

You want to know how to pronounce Iode but you never question how to pronounce Ayia?

"He's... gone."

"That's a yep."

"Okay."  Martin looks around, sizing up the terrain.  There's a couple trees within decent range.  Nothing too advanced - he definitely recalls someone saying not to expose people to new technology.  But he doesn't need anything fancy.

He takes a few steps forward, making sure the rest of the group is behind him, and takes one of his throwing knives from his jacket, hurling it towards the tree.  It sticks, quivering.  Not as good as he would like - it's a little lower than he was aiming for, and he could have sworn it didn't fly as fast as it should have.  But it's in the tree.

"That's one thing I'm good at.  I'm a decent hand-to-hand fighter as well."

"Uh...huh." Ayia tried not to show any disappointment. He was probably a great fighter, but compared to drawing energy from other living beings to create spears of light...

"I did some hacking, back where I came from, but I have a feeling that won't be any good here."  He retrieves his knife, frowning at the sap on the blade.  That'll be miserable to clean.  "It's not much, but it's not terribly showy."

"Don't worry. Having a traditional fighter on our team might turn out to be more useful than what meets the eye."
