Until she looked over at Nath, who seemed to be for some reason keeping her from immobilizing the enemy. Goodness were these people strange. Talking before fighting? This could be a distraction from an ambush, or a way of stalling until backup came. Why not just take down the opponent, and then ask them about their reasons for fighting later? But the Fox kept her trap shut.

"This is standard procedure," Fadran says to her out of the side of his mouth, "antagonist interrogation before the fight scene. You'll get used to it eventually."

Volume is a physical thing, so I don't know why the telepathy would seem loud to you. This is Fadran, correct? Queen could tell that it was Fadran by...not his voice, but something similar. Telepathic communication had no voice, more of a feeling, but every person still had a very identifiable mental "voice." 1
