+ILuvHats he/him Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 (edited) I’m a big fan of fantasy. Duh, I’m on these forums. And I like to think I am widely read, especially when it comes to modern fantasy. However, I have committed the worst crime you can in fantasy, the greatest blasphemy. Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler I have never read Lord of the Rings. Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler But I have read the Silmarillion for some reason. I’m betting nobody else here has neglected to do the first but has done the second. I like to think I’m special that way. But I am curious how many people have not Spoiler read Lord of the Rings. Edited May 29, 2020 by ILuvHats
Eluvianii he/him Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Me. I think I tried them during middle school and I didn't get far. I liked it, but I'm a slow reader and library time constraints can be a problem. Right now I'm interested but a "Sometime in the eventual future" kind of interested.
Knight of Iron she/they Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 Also have not read the Lord of the Rings. Didn't even finish the first movie.
nbozb Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 I've watched the movies, but haven't read the Lord of the Rings. I'm a little scared to pick them up, considering their size. Maybe I'll get to them, one day.
Mat he/him Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 I got through the first one. Made it through the second. And gave up on the third. I'll go back later I'm sure, eventually probably sometime.

Read them with audio the first time it really helps. On 5/29/2020 at 7:50 PM, Knight of Iron said: Also have not read the Lord of the Rings. Also @ILuvHats I am not a member of the Church of Fantasy, so I can't address claimed of heresy, I am however a patriot of the Tolkienien kingdom, and I say that, reading the Silmarilion first could be really cool, read Hobbit and Lotr. Not only do I not have the ability to focus on what I hear for long, but the voices would kill me. I much prefer reading in my own head.
Emi she/her Posted June 15, 2020 Posted June 15, 2020 Oh, I'm not the only one who never read The Lord of the Rings. I wanted, but then we had hobbit as a book which we have to read in 6th grade and I found it reaaaally boring so I decided not to read The Lord of the Rings

I have a copy of the Lord of the Rings at home, but it's compiled into one book, so it looks really big. I'm planning on starting LotR soon though, so wish me luck!
