Sooooo the response to Kaladin being unable to stop two groups he pledged to protect from killing each other is "hey it was their own choice?" Something tells me people would be hesitant to vote for the political platform of "hey if you die, it was your own choice" lol.

You obviously don't understand the intricacies of the matter.

What about his mysterious ties to the infamous murder of Adonalsium? the fact that he uses the weapon used to kill Adonalsium as an immortality device? Hoid is untrustworthy, being hunted by at least one multi-world organization, is scared of a sword whose guiding command is "destroy evil" and has even admitted that he would let an entire world burn to get what he wants. Kaladin on the other hand lives by one goal: protection. He has fought against oppression, slain murderers, and rescued slaves. He will not be cowed by the corrupt world leaders, and will fight for what is right to his last breath.

He can't hurt anyone why would Adonalsium be any different. On the topic of Nightblood anyone could theoretically use it to kill anyone, evil specifically is up to the holder to understand. Additionally if one of the only things you knew of that could kill you was the Declaration of Independence you wouldn't go into the National archives would you?

Yes but do the common people understand this? It sounds like excuses if you don't have an in-depth knowledge of the Cosmere like we do.

So is "oh I got battle paralysis," and totally didn't let the King get Murdered by the guy I almost let murder the King just a few weeks earlier and was in my inner circle.  Hard to understand if you don't have a great knowledge of Kaladin's head like we do.

You see,  Kaladin's personality is different than Hoid's. When you ask Hoid these questions, he'll smile mysteriously, then make a joke or say something vague. When you accuse Kaladin of something, he'll refute it. Kaladin's bearing is that of an honorable, upstanding man, while Hoid's would make a lawyer look honest and upfront.

Do you believe politicians refutations of accusations against them? So why on earth do you think that people will believe Kaladin?

So my one thing is I tend to see people say Kaladin is the champion of the common man. Does he protect? Certainly. But Kaladin is far (in my opinion) from a force for societal change. He does whatever he can to protect in the moment. The order of knights that seem more concerned with the "common man" are the edgedancers. Remembering those that are forgetten. Listening to those who are ignored. The entire order was focused on helping the civilians displaced by the abandonment of Urithiru rather than leaving a message about themselves for posterity. Again, just want to stress, not saying Kaladin is a bad person, nor that he does not care. He clearly cares, and wants to protect. But other than trying to help slaves escape that he is protecting, or protecting the bridgemen under his command, or protecting the soldiers under his command, I do not recall Kaladin ever actually seeking to change society for the better, or work towards bettering "the common man's" lot in life.

I agree, Edgedancers are by far better for the office than Windrunners. I say Lift for President of Alethkar. She promises free pancakes for everyone!

I'm gonna stop you right there. Lift has no idea how to handle politics and we get a second weak ruler on a row.

Weak? You call Lift weak? Lift is strong in the dark side of the... I mean, she could be a good leader if she put her mind to it.

Look. We all know that Kaladin's the only guy with the charisma for the job. He turned a bunch of depressed slaves one step from suicide into a not only functional, but also highly skilled, elite group of Soldiers, with nothing but soup and determination.

And yet he can be found speaking to the air, I'm not sure about his mental state. ;)

That "air" can be and has been proven to be an honor spren. Besides, look at the other candidates: Hoid, an several thousand year old man who talks to himself and insults literally everybody who talks to him, and Lift, a thirteen year old girl who once stated not only that she had magic spit, but that she had been ten for three years, as well as constantly referring to the air around her as a voidbringer.

Never wanted Lift as president. Also aren't presidential debates basically a contest of who can insult the other worst without it being overtly obvious as an insult? So Hoid is fine there.

Yes, but around unintelligent lighteyes and highprinces, his insults become too obvious. I doubt it would be better against any presidential candidate. It's just too easy to insult them! I would like to nominate Lightsong for Vice President. I don't think he cares enough to actually win the presidency, but I would love to see some banter between him and Hoid

Spoiler

and we know he would be willing to sacrifice himself to save the President.

We are assuming that Kaladin gets the darkeyes vote. How do we know that those elites weren’t suppress the election to stop the candidate of change.

Because the elite don't have a candidate to root for. Are they going to vote for Hoid? He insults them repeatedly whenever they are in hearing distance. Are they going to vote for Lift? she is a thirteen year old girl who steals their dinner. Kaladin is the current best choice for them except for Dalinar, and he won't stand for cheating.

He's got a point.
