Whismy Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 Spoiler Spoiler for Oathbringer In Oathbringer, Dalinar three years after the death of Evi goes to look for alcohol, and finds a person named Ahu, who references several of the unmade, and is later revealed to be a herald later in the book as Moash kills him. My question is: how, eight years before being involved in any type of surgebinding, does Dalinar meet a Herald? Could it be because of some meddling of a shard or something else, or was it just coincidence?
Aon Tia she/her Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 (edited) Jezrein aka Ahu is currently living in Kholinar as a street beggar for many many years now.. the scene where dalinar meets him itself suggests that dalinar has met him a few times before.. I think they became , just for those occasions, drinking buddies.. lol.. Kholins often give out food to the beggars and Ahu comes to the palace often for those free meals.. I guess heralds need to eat may be.. or he likes to pretend.. During prologue of twok, Ahu/Jezrien was there too and he had met szeth.. told him look at my statue.. Hoid is said to know when and where he needs to be but not why. There's also this interesting WoB about coincidences in the Cosmere: Quote Kalanit Taub When Jasnah picks up the bead for the palace, is that the same bead that Shallan picks up in Oathbringer? Brandon Sanderson So, whenever things like that happen you can assume there's little bits of Connection going on that's changing the probability a little bit. You're not meant to read much into it, but the probability is increased because of thing like that. And you'll find, if you look really closely, there are connections between the characters that are really subtle that I'm doing, that anyone who's touching the Spiritual Realm or thing like that. For instance, in the second book, Syl turns into Shallan while Shallan is washed up on the beach while Syl is talking to Kaladin somewhere else. There's enough Connection going on that you see Syl change shapes, and Kal's like, "It looks like she's walking on a beach!" It's just Syl... because through all of that, is turning into... You'll find things like that <happening> all through the books, really subtle, really small. There's just meant to be, one of the things in the Cosmere is Connection. Not to be that guy, but he met Szeth... And no, I doubt it was Shardic influence. Jezrien was a street beggar, and Kholinar is one of Roshars biggest cities. Nothing really strange there.
