@Eternal Khol, so how do the unpublished books stack up in your opinion? Also, in comparison to Brandon's first published novel, Elantris

I've only read AoN and the prologues of Whitesand and Mistborn but I feel Whitesand is just as good as the rest of the published works(minus the typos)

I already found my favorite quote in Mistborn Prime though

"The primary tenet of the Mistborn, Kathin thought, realizing the trap went further than he expected.  Any man will betray you"

This is what Reen/Ruin always told Vin in the Books.

I love the way he incorporates these ideas into the Published books.

The original idea is still somewhat present in the Published books, but instead of it being the "primary tenet of the mistborn" it's kinda like Vin's own personal tenet with Reen/Ruin telling her all the time

You've read Dragonsteel Prime and Liar of Partinel released chapters right? Have you read the full version from BYU?

I didn't want to read the Dragonsteel chapters if it wasn't the whole book. I did read both versions of LoP and I Loved them.

Brandon talked about how he felt it a chore to write every chapter and how he had trouble shifting the main PoV to Hoid from Theus and I felt that, but it was by no means "bad"

my favorite parts were Hoids first time telling a story and the Fain Forest. Imagine walking through a Hauntingly pure white forest:D

I wasn't really a fan of the Aethers, they were interesting, but it just felt like they weren't really important, if you know what it mean?

They were a big part of the chapters and what was happening, but they just didnt... fit.

I liked LoP settings more than Dragonsteel settings too. Much more haunting. The conflict between the two ecosystems were done very differently in each of them, plus the Shattered Plains (location of Dragonsteel, the metal) were transferred from Yolen to Roshar, so I wonder what Yolen would end up looking like now

Speaking of, are you in the Vax is the Aethers planet camp?

I hadn't thought of Vax being Aethers planet. It could be though, with Brandon slowly working it into the Cosmere with Mraizes little trophy.

I bet a lot of Yolen will still be the same. The "two lands meeting"(Hoid says so in Warbreaker), the city of Partinel will probably be there too

There's another planet, 'Lor', that might be the Aethers planet and originally was planned to be before the magic was transplanted to this version and what we see on Yolen in Liar of Partinel. Pagerunner advocates that as the Aethers planet.

I think Brandon said he does plan on a cosmere world named Lor, so it could be either

simon_thekillerewok

Is there a planet called Lor? (aka what planet will Aether of Night take place on).

Brandon Sanderson

I do plan a planet called Lor. But Aether of Night is very in flux right now, so I won't canonize where it takes place.

Any theories for which Shard(s) is/are in residence in the <Aethers planet name>?

I bet its one we haven't seen yet.

On the other hand, I just read Chapter One of Mistborn Prime and my god, Brandon's syntax, in this novel, is just awful. I like the premise of the book and it could have a lot more impact with better sentence structure, but its definitely the worst Sanderson novel I've read so far.

do you have any thought as to what the Intent of the "wisdom' Shard is?

it finally let me delete the quote box:lol:

Some people have guessed Ingenuity to be the same Shard, some have also thought the Survival Shard is one & the same. That's it's the Shard not situated on a planet. Or all of them are different Shards. Or pretty much all possible variations of mixes. Opinion is currently divided.

Quote

Questioner

If you were entrusted with a Shard of Adonalsium, which Shard?

Brandon Sanderson

Ummm... Heh heh heh... maybe Ingenuity.

Sofia signing (March 28, 2017)

Quote

David J. Foster

It sounds like [Brandon] identified a new shard, Ingenuity, in an interview in Bulgaria. Can you verify this?

Peter Ahlstrom

That is news to me! Maybe [Isaac] can ask him.

Isaac Stewart

I asked [Brandon]. He said readers can interpret his words how they want.

Footnote: The question is referring to this exchange.

Wit states, "Some men as they age, grow wiser. I am not one of those, for wisdom and I have always been at cross-purpose, and I have yet to learn the tongue in which she speaks." Is Hoid referring to wisdom as a concept?

Brandon Sanderson

*Sly smile* RAFO.

Footnote: Quote from Oathbringer Chapter 68
Skyward release party (Nov. 6, 2018)

Quote

Paleo

All right, regarding the 'Wisdom Shard' again. We have one quote where Hoid... I'll just cite it: "Some men, as they age, grow wiser. I am not one of those, for wisdom and I have always been at cross-purposes." Is he referring to that Shard there... or the Vessel?

Brandon Sanderson

*thumbs up, grins* ... Yes.

Prague Signing (Oct. 26, 2019)

Quote

Paleo

In May, in Germany, you told me that... or I asked whether Wisdom was a Shard, and you said it was or something like it, and that wisdom was close to an intent of a Shard, and you also told me that it has realized that survival isn't necessarily the most important thing for it. I wanted to ask whether it has realized that over time or was it from the get go?

Brandon Sanderson

Over time.

Paleo

Okay, so then naturally, my next question: Is it the survival Shard?

Brandon Sanderson

RAFO.

Paleo

And then somebody actually came up with another good probable name. Is Prudence close?

Brandon Sanderson

Prudence sounds an awful lot like a Shard name. That's some excellent theorizing there.

Prague Signing (Oct. 26, 2019)

Quote

DrogaKrolow

What happened with the Shard that just drifts in the space, the one that wants to hide and survive?

Brandon Sanderson

What about that Shard? They want to hide and survive.

DrogaKrolow

Huh, something more?

Brandon Sanderson

I think I will RAFO that for right now.

Footnote: The questioner seems to be conflating two separate Shards in his question. There is the Shard that wants to hide and survive and another that is not on a planet.
DrogaKrolow.pl interview (March 17, 2017)

Quote

Seonid

I've heard about a Shard that just wants to survive, hiding off-- it doesn't have a planet it doesn't--

Brandon Sanderson

Right.

Seonid

--out there in space, trying to survive. Does it have the intent of like Fear, or something like that?

Brandon Sanderson

The intent is related but only tangentially. Mostly it just knows what's going on and is smart enough to get out of there.

Bands of Mourning release party (Jan. 25, 2016)

Quote

Chaos

Give us the name of a Shard's intent we have not seen before.

Brandon Sanderson

There is one who just wants to hide and survive.

General Signed Books 2011 (Nov. 8, 2011)

Quote

Paleo (paraphrased)

Is Wisdom a Shard? If so, how bad does it want to survive?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

There is a Shard with a similar intent. The Shard has realized that survival might not be the most desirable/important.

Footnote: Paleo later asked Brandon for clarification on this one because he couldn't quite remember the survival part when he wrote it down. Brandon stressed again what the Shard has realized.
Stuttgart signing (May 17, 2019)

Quote

Excelsius

Has ever a Shard been forced - besides Odium in Roshar - to leave their planet after it was destroyed.

Brandon Sanderson

Yes.

Excelsius

Yes - besides Odium?

Brandon Sanderson

Besides Odium? Yes. Has a Shard been forced to leave their planet after the planet was destroyed? Yes.

Bonn Signing (May 15, 2019)

Quote

Pagerunner (paraphrased)

Ambition, the Shard *inaudible*. Is that the one you previously referred to as not on a planet?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Ambition would fulfill that requirement, but that's not the one I was referring to.

Arcanum Unbounded Hoboken signing (Dec. 3, 2016)

Eh, could you remove the quote box? It's bothering me because the question you asked doesn't have anything to do with what you quoted

I am absolutely loving the character of Kathin. Hes a more ruthless version of Kelsier.

This writing style, the darker theme throughout the book is really something I wish Brandon would explore more.

I love the prologue(kathin's awful upbringing) and his fraternity style Mistborn initiation. Elements like these just aren't present enough in the Published works

Why not put up a full review of it after you're finished? comparisons with other unpublished works or the published version, character analysis, thematic focus, the setting etc

Wait, the pic's missing Mistborn Prime

I gotta say I am thoroughly loving Mistborn Prime.

I dont know if its because so much of it is so familiar from The Final Empire but Im only half way through and already like it more than Aether of Night.

Theres actually a lot more worldbuilding than I thought there'd be.

I gotta recommend it, if you haven't read it yet.

@Honorless this is what its like to live in Alaska. You have to wait at least a month for anything to come in the mail:(

I ordered MP on 1/7 and still haven't received it.
