She smiled at Ana and then hastily continued to eat, took one bite after the other, chewed, swallowed and then took immediatly bit into the skewer again. She didn't look up again until the food was gone, and then licked at her fingers to get every remaining crumb as well. She paused when she realized that all of them had to be observing her and slowly lowered her hand again, suddenly embarressed at the way she had stuffed the food into herself. Ana smiled as Ophelia feasted on her meal. She knew that feeling all too well -- the feeling of a hot meal after days of eating nothing but foraged scraps. She fought back a grimace, remembering her own empty stomach, and the empty shelves at home. Charity was all well and good, when you had things to spare. And Ana had nothing to spare. Idiot, she told herself. You're not much better off than her! What are you trying to prove, being generous like this? No one cares, no one's ever cared . . . If they cared they wouldn't have forgotten . . . She bit the inside of her cheek, pushing those thoughts to the back of her mind. Embarrassed, she looked up to the sky, averting her eyes from Ophelia. It was a dull blue, the colour of puddles on cloudy days. It could never be described as beautiful. Ophelia had already finished her meal, and was looking around, embarrassed. Ana offered the remaining skewer to the sailor again. @I think I am here.

On her own, she had messed things up already, but if she stayed with Ana, maybe she could learn a trick or to. How to get food. Or maybe how to behave. "I will try my best, and I promise I won't be a burden if I can avoid it." Which was unlikely, but it sounded better. She grimaced a little when she realized how desperate her words sounded, how lonely she had to seem, and she lowered her head. "I can understand, if you want to go alone though. I'm no strong fighter." She added quickly to offer Ana an easy wait out.

Going alone with the sailor would have terrified her. She didn't even know if he was trustworthy. "But..." she glanced back at the street vendor who had served her. He had told her to go straight back to him after delivering the food. "I promised the street vendor I'd come back and help him straight away after giving you food. I don't think he'd be very happy if I just left now." He was scary, she added in her head. "How about..." she looked around. "I should be done by afternoon. The lunch rush will be over then. We could all meet by that statue over there." She pointed to one of the D'Denir statues, this one raising its hard to the sky, as if trying to reach out and grab the sun. "By the way," she said to the sailor, before she forgot again. "What's your name?" Ophelia nodded. "Sure, we can meet after you're done working." She hesitated. "I could you help you with that as well?" It was nothing she knew a lot about, but she trusted herself to be kind and smiling. And she could adress people properly as well. Maybe that would help. Nervously she brushed her hair out of her face and wondered if you even offered to work somewhere else. How did it go? She had suspected, that you simply asked, but there seemed to be more to it, and maybe, maybe there was. Should she present herself properly, list her skills? But she had no skills apart from hairdressing, and while she also did a splendid make up, she was sure that wasn't what was needed here.
I think I am here. he/him Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 “Aoryen,” Aoryen said, a proper sailor’s name. Nodding to the girl he looked to Ana and the rest of group. “Now, what in the graces of the sea do we do until the afternoon?”

You can come with me, anyway." 9 hours ago, I think I am here. said: “Now, what in the graces of the sea do we do until the afternoon?” "Umm... sailor stuff?" Ana suggested. One of the servants at home -- the old house -- used to be a sailor. He told her stories of his adventures at sea, like when he fought off a giant squid, or when he was trapped by pirates and escaped using only his hat and his bad breath. He'd tell her about his gambling exploits too, which Ana found almost as fascinating, and taught her how to play. Unfortunately, her mother didn't find in nearly as fascinating, and forbade him from teaching her any more after she caught both of them playing cards one night in an old storeroom. But he had taught Ana how to pretend. How to pretend you were winning when you were actually floundering about, struggling to come up for air. That was what she was doing now, wasn't it? Just pretending she knew what she was doing, when really she was just as lost as they seemed to be. Could they tell? Quote Sorana, did you want to RP the next part (Ophelia and Ana working) or skip until afternoon so we don't keep Itiah waiting? I don't mind either way. @Sorana
+Sorana she/her Posted November 21, 2019 Posted November 21, 2019 6 hours ago, The Awakened Salad said: "I guess you could ask?" Ana said. "It's not much, mostly trying to attract customers and doing cleaning. You can come with me, anyway." "Thank you." Ophelia smiled, took a deep breath and walked over to the man behind the counter. "I would like to work. As a thank you for the food." She told him without any flourishes around her words. Surprised he looked at her, then shrugged. "Sure. Try to get as many customers here as possible." Ophelia nodded and looked around unsure what to do now. Ana would know, but she wanted to do it by herself, wanted to show that she could do it on her own. Hesitantly she approached a man. "Hello." She said timidly. "Would you like to eat a skewer?" The man didn't even reply, only walked past, leaving her standing there, feeling incredibly studpid. For a moment she was unsure what to do, then she approached a woman. Maybe women were easier. "Hello." She tried to look confident, but failed. "Would you like to eat a skewer?" The woman looked up and turned towards her and Ophelia saw, that she was holding an apple in her hand. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't see-" she stuttered and paled. This was awful, she was the worst person to do this. Someone walked past, another woman, beautiful locks reaching her shoulders. "wow." Ophelia murmured and the woman turned, looked at her. "I meant your hair." She tried to explain, wished she had decided to wait until afternoon. "Thank you." The woman smiled and Ophelia took her chance. "Would you like a skewer?" She asked and the woman considered for a moment, then walked over to the vendor. Relieved Ophelia looked around. That one had been pure luck. But at least she had managed to get one new customer. Quote I'm fine with skipping. @The Awakened Salad
The Awakened Salad they/them Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 It was afternoon now, the sun having glided its way across the sky and currently resting closer to the horizon. Ana stood waiting next to the D'Denir statue they had all agreed to meet at earlier. Times like these, when she was just standing around, was when she felt the absence of her breath the most strongly. Her skin felt paper-thin, like it was useless wrapping around a hollow shell. She was tired, even though she had barely done anything today. And hungry. Usually, she forgot about her missing breath, pushing those thoughts into a box in her mind, which she kept on a high shelf out of her reach. It was only when something caused it to fall down that she had to go over, tidy it up, and put it up back there before everything spilled out and she couldn't contain it. And there... next to that box was... Never mind. That wasn't important. What was important was the present. She idly ran a hand through her hair, watching a pair of birds dive and soar through the air above her. @Sorana @I think I am here.
I think I am here. he/him Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 “Now, now,” Aoryen said, appearing from behind one of the statues, arms crossed. “I’ll have to say, I’m mighty curious as to these youths you say.” He looked around, frowning. “Can’t see the barber-girl though. Ah, I don’t know how she’d be able to be helpin’ anyway. But still... we mustn’t leave her behind. Sailor’s Code, you know.”
+Sorana she/her Posted November 23, 2019 Posted November 23, 2019 Ophelia hurried towards the ststue, had taken a moment to relieve herself. She'd brushed her hair and braided it in an easy, but elaborate way. It was nice to look like herself again. Ana and Aoryen were already waited and she hurried up, ran over. "I'm sorry." She said a little out of breath. "I had to - do girl things." She quickly explained not wanting to go into details in front of a man. "Do we have a plan? What can I do to help?"
The Awakened Salad they/them Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 "I can take you to where they usually gather," Ana said. "It's an abandoned storeroom at the back of an old restaurant. They're usually there at night." She began to lead the way back to her house. Colourful and cheery storefronts began to give way to old, washed out buildings. They reminded Ana of a rainbow that was just about to fade away. Here, people were less friendly. Wary eyes watched the group as they passed through the streets. Ana looked down and slumped her shoulders, trying to avoid the attention. Ophelia, with her elaborate hair, seemed to stand out even more. Finally, they reached an alley. The street around them was empty, and Ana's voice seemed louder now. "It's down here," she said, looking into the narrow space.

Cutlass-to-cutlass. So I think we’d be doin’ this a different way today. Say, Ophelia...” Aoryen said, grinning and stepping further into the alley, stomping his feet with each march so their attention. “How would you rate yourself at a wee bit of gambling?”
