If Hoid is the endgame protagonist, it would be poignant, maybe, for a friend of his as such to be the endgame antagonist? Also, can't remember if a Vessel can survive a deSharding, but what if they can, Rayse is SA-defeated by losing Odium, so it's not as Odium that he is the threat later? Or if Vessels die without a Shard, maybe the twist is that Rayse has Odium replaced. So, like, he is made to relinquish Odium but take up a reforged Honor... What if it was like when Lord Foul was defeated at the end of the first/second Covenant trilogy? Or like, he gets expelled from Roshar and can't come back, but he can still regenerate or what, maybe? But what if Bavadin (i.e., Autonomy) is the real "Big Bad"? Letting Rayse fight her battles for her while laying the groundwork to take over the Cosmere? Yeah, given his surprisingly early introduction and the amount of appearances we get from Rayse in OB I would not be shocked if he died at the end of book 5. I expect we will get a lot of him in Book 4. He won’t visit Dalinar anymore but he may still talk to Venli and Mr. T and it’s Venli’s book. Im not sure he can be the big bad for 7 more novels if he is all over them this early. I don’t know what the back 5 will be about if he does die in book 5 though. To make a deep character out of him and not just "the guy who killed Shards before, had the most terrible Shard, who was then defeated" with some minor sentimental background. I guess I'm not expecting a twist antagonist in SA, firstly. Otoh the storm stuff makes me wonder if there is an allegory about climate change somewhere in SA, so maybe it would be a disaster-response epic after 5, with 1 through 5 being the war story of SA. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
