Yeah, I think it has, a little.

Star wants a kid and Heather wants to be a kid. PERFECT.

Ember is literally the happiest she has ever been. I know there was some emotional whiplash to get to this point, but I feel that the emotional tension of the previous scene was sucked away with time.

Balanced on her hands as she was, Ember was effectively a foot taller than normal. It was odd to see the world this way - all upside down and topsy turvy - but she was slowly getting used to it. She did notice, however, that the floor beneath her seemed to be slightly more strained. That made sense; her weight was now being distributed over a smaller surface. (She'd noticed that she had rather large feet - much bigger than Heather's, certainly - and that did not help her opinion of them in all their strangeness.) After walking around for a moment, she decided it was probably better to go back to walking on her feet. After all, Tom's flying ship had been made to support the weight of humans and Ember weighed considerably more than a squishy human being.

Ember cartwheeled gracefully back to her feet and shook herself, her metal hair making a racket of noise. Her molten insides slowly slid back into place, making Ember feel a bit dizzy. "Oh," she exclaimed, putting her hands out to steady herself. "Maybe I should not do that again..." She grabbed Heather's hand. "Come on, then, let's find Master Star!"

"My telepathy is never wrong." Ember cocked her head. "You are afraid and I do not understand why. I have plenty of reason to fear Star; she is my Master. But your relationship with her is completely differing. Why are you afraid?"

Ember brightened. "Right." And then, she began walking, pulling Heather along with her.

What Ember did not say was that part of her eagerness to see her master was that she did not like being stuck babysitting. Hopefully Star would have a new task for her. It wasn't that she didn't like watching over Heather in the first place, it just got tiring day in and day out. Wasn't there anything better for her to be doing? Feeling slightly selfish, she played with the fingers on her free hand, moving her wrist and fingers.

Nope! Pheo and Star need to stop talking so that Star can go chill out and have some tea. When Ember said Star wasn't feeling stressed, she was feeling Star while she's having her tea. So. Yeah. We can wait to post about Ember bursting in on Star when Star is actually having tea. :P

Okay.

Ember climbed up the stairs carefully, making sure she wasn't going too fast for Heather. Upon coming to Star's door, she let go of Heather's hand and bowed her head, clasping her hands in front of her and waiting.

Star flinched, nearly dropping her tea in surprise. Some of the hot drink spilled out onto her hand, burning her momentarily. When she looked over her shoulder to see Heather, she breathed out in relief. "Oh," she said, smiling warmly. "Heather." She was wearing a tiara that hadn't been there before - a delicate beauty made with silver, diamonds and pearls, the silver shaped into vines and flowers. "It's good to see you dear. Oh, and Ember."

Ember walked into the room reverently, nodding. "Highness."

"Alright, if you say so. I'll sing for you." Star cleared her voice and started to sing in the warm, alto voice of an older woman who'd seen more than her share.

The other night, dear
As I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you, in my arms
When I awoke, dear
I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy
When skies are gray
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away
I'll always love you
And make you happy
And nothing else could come between
But if you leave me to allow another
You'll have shattered all of my dreams
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy

When skies are gray
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

As she sang she felt herself calm down a bit.

I made a recording of myself as Star singing it, but I can't access that right now, so we'll have to wait.

Edit: Here's the recording. Star is an old alto and I am a 15 year old soprano, so... I did my best.

I can't listen it right now, but it is probably amazing!

As Heather listening, she seemed to relax and release all that pent up anger, frustration, and sadness. Or at least some of it. After the end of the song Heater siad, "Thank you. That helped a lot."

"Oh good," Star sighed. "It helped me too, honestly. I..." She paused, unsure if it was wise to talk about her difficulty with Pheonix with her newly adopted daughter. Deciding it probably wasn't, she said, "Would you girls like some tea?"
