"I cannot access the other universe. And I trust her to get out of... whatever has happened. For me, the stakes are much lower. I trust Star, but if she didn't exist, I would not care that reality was broken. Actually, if she did not exist, then I would not either. Tell me. Would you be saddened if I ceased to exist?"

Ember's face fell. "Forgive me," she whispered. "My powers are a great burden. I was only trying to follow my directive. But I did not truly understand that directive. You are not my enemy. You are only... a person. Perhaps that sounds unfeeling. And that's because... I am. Utterly unfeeling. And cold, despite my heat. But I wanted to hide after Star berated my insolence. I felt small." She trailed off.

Ember was surprised at Heather's early memories of Star. Her master was certainly... different to say the least. "Star has changed," Ember said, a little disturbed.
