Ember looked away and laid down on the floor, staring up at the ceiling. "I hope Star returns soon."

“Same…Although it would be nice if I didn’t have to confront…Myself.”

Ember considered. "I would not want to see myself as a drunken wreck either."

“Yeah…But I’m still a drunken mess too.”

"... No." Ember was silent for a moment. "I don't think it matters. Star cares for you, intoxicated or not."

“That’s probably her greatest fault.”

[Zephrun’s Imperium they/he]

"But you love her for it, don't you? I've seen it on your face. She's the only one who's never left you. And you love her for it. It is all right. I see it in her too. She is too good for this world. That is why she is my master."

“Yeah…So, you want to hatch a plan to go and rescue her?”

"I cannot access the other universe. And I trust her to get out of... whatever has happened. For me, the stakes are much lower. I trust Star, but if she didn't exist, I would not care that reality was broken. Actually, if she did not exist, then I would not either. Tell me. Would you be saddened if I ceased to exist?"

Heathers eyes widened. “I really don’t want to get burned again, so I’m going to keep that too myself.”

"So you are afraid of me," Ember said quietly.

[BringerofShadows she/her]

Her eyes narrowed “Well duh. 3rd degree burns are not fun.”

[Zephrun’s Imperium they/he]

Ember's face fell. "Forgive me," she whispered. "My powers are a great burden. I was only trying to follow my directive. But I did not truly understand that directive. You are not my enemy. You are only... a person. Perhaps that sounds unfeeling. And that's because... I am. Utterly unfeeling. And cold, despite my heat. But I wanted to hide after Star berated my insolence. I felt small." She trailed off.

“I was being a jerk anyway… You are forgiven.”

"Thank you." Ember seemed a little more reserved now. On edge. "Does Star ever frighten you?" she asked.

“Yeah, at first when I was a Marionette. Then it developed into a death wish.”

Ember sat up again. Laying down was not very comfortable in a shell. But she was glad she had tried it. She cocked her head. "You were a... marionette? A doll?"

“Basically, yes.”

Ember's eyes glowed with curiosity and she scooted forward. "And Star... changed you? She saved you?"

“She gave me back my powers, no longer controlling me.”

Ember furled her brow. "I am confused. Will you share your memories with me?"

She sighed. “Sure.”

Ember was surprised at Heather's early memories of Star. Her master was certainly... different to say the least. "Star has changed," Ember said, a little disturbed.
