A Void-touched amethyst tear rolled down his cheek. "I'm sorry," he said to Star. "For everything I ever did to you."

Then he turned to Pheonix and sighed. "It's been a while. I lost track of time about when I lost track of reality."

[Zephrun’s Imperium they/he]

"Oh, don't you be sorry. The past is in the past and all that's left is to make the best of what we have." She looked over at Pheonix and considered taking his arm again, but decided against it.

[Jaywalk he/him]

"My apology still stands. I was reckless and spiteful, and you never deserved that." He folded his arms. "Now, how do we get out of here?"

[Zephrun’s Imperium they/he]

"We walk out that door," Star laughed, gesturing towards where they had come from. 

[Jaywalk he/him]

Such a simple escape, almost too good to be true. He gave a tight smile. "Let's go, then."

He heard a noise from behind. "Godfather," Max said. "Don't leave me."

Jaywalk willed himself not to look back, only kept his attention on Star. "As soon as we can, that'd be great."

Do you want it to be only Jay that hears that? It would make sense that he'd be the only one, 'cause it's his nightmare.

Star had, by this time, shielded her mind from the whispers of the strange, dark cavern. At one point in time, she would have stopped to listen, but not anymore. They had nothing to offer her. Star clasped her hands. "Lovely. Oh, there's so much to show you."

Knowing Xino, I'm not so sure their escape will be easy, but we'll see.

"Yeah," said Xino, looking uneasily at the cavern. He tossed the doorknob star to Pheonix and summoned his sword and shield. "We should probably go."

Star began walking, unhurried, towards the door.

Jaywalk followed after them, ignoring the whispers from the nightmares. His steps began to slow, however. Some force pulled him back, and as he fought against it, he fell to his knees, groaning.

Ember waited, but a reply did not come. She cocked her head, confused. "Star is not responding," she said. "I do not know why."

He clutched his midsection and let out a cry. “There is no escape, godfather,” Max whispered. “The dream must never end.”

Jaywalk drew the Void back to him, forcing the power against the nightmare. It was just barely enough to allow him to stand again. “We need to get out,” he said through gritted teeth.

Star nodded. "Yes, I see that. Here, let me help you up." Star offered Jay her hand.

Xino turned back and saw what was going on. He muttered something under his breath and turned to Pheonix. "You know about this stuff, right?"

Pheonix hesitated, then nodded slightly. "Yes... I mean, I know some things."

Xino jerked a finger towards Jaywalk. "Do you know what's going on with him?"

Pheonix watched, eyebrows scrunched up in thought. "Ummm.... I'm not sure." He paused, and suddenly a thought came to him. "Unless, maybe... he's not actually here?"

Xino leaned fowards intently. "What do you mean?"

"Well..." Pheonix hesitated, trying to think of a way to explain things. "The Nightmare Tree is sort of like a tree, right? It has a trunk, and branches, sort of."

"Sort of?"

"It's not literal. I mean, it is literal in that it's real, but it's not actually a tree."

Xino frowned. "Okay..."

Star paled. "Pheo, what are you saying?"

"The Tree has these things called pods. They're kind of like the Tree's fruit. And each one is a jail cell."

Star narrowed her eyes. "And how hard will it be to escape?" she said flatly, cursing inside of her head.

Pheonix shook his head. "Not too hard to escape," he said. "The hard part is finding it."

Star's face went red with anger. For a moment, she shook in her wrath, the simply sat down, folded her arms, and said nothing.

Pheonix's eyes widened in shock. "Star?" he asked hesitantly. "Are you... alright?"

[Zephrun’s Imperium they/he]

"I'm fine!" Star exploded sarcastically. "I'm just fine Pheo. I've just learned that I've once again been cut off from the outside world. Again. Is it too much to ask for one day of rest!?" She groaned and almost started to cry, but kept her emotions down.

"What?" said Pheonix, confused. "We aren't cut off, only Jaywalk is."

[Zephrun’s Imperium they/he]

Star paled. "Oh," she whispered. She swallowed, embarrassed. She had truly thought that she was trapped here. Never again would she let her herself be captured. To think she had wanted that... It seemed lifetimes ago. She took a shaky breath, bowing her head. "Oh, thank TVG."
