Medley sighed and dropped her branches. All except the biggest one.

Darryl glanced at the forest. "Do you hear something?" Various thumps and cracks sounded out in the dark.

"Um..." Capella thought for a moment. "I mean, she's got it pretty good."

"Oh, hello again."  Nameless handed the LiViNg cHeEsE some beef jerky. "You're back. Also, I think I stopped disappearing."

“Thanks, but I’m a vegetarian,” said the LiViNg cHeEsE, who returned the jerky. “Do you want to help plot against an alternate version of yourself?”

"Nah I'm good. I don't generally leave TST." Nameless handed LiViNg cHeEsE some potato jerky. "By the way, is there something I can call you besides LiVing cHeEsE? it's a little bit annoying to narrate."

“Well, it’s a long story,” said LC, and proceeded to do one of those things where you’re like “and then proceeded to tell the whole story” because the reader already knows what the story is.

Nameless nodded. "That was a cool story. I liked the part that the readers didn't know about that will be used as a plot point later on in the plot, after I have a dramatic flashback."

I didn’t even know bigender was a thing until now (though in hindsight I don’t know how I didn’t know this sooner). But yes, salads are bigender.

It's really funny that I was the person who taught you what bigender was years before I even realized I was bigender 😆 and that it was in this interaction!

“She lives,” a voice said from behind them. Salad stopped, their breath catching in their throat. Their hand rested on their hip, where another hidden knife lay.

“You seemed reluctant to kill her,” the voice continued. “I wonder why.”

Salad said nothing. Ene was alive. That meant her powers had awakened. She was safe, for now.

The voice laughed. “Don’t forget me, Salad.” Something caressed their cheek. “I’ll be watching, always.”

Almost four years later, Ene stepped into the Physical Realm. Alive.

He'd learned a lot while dead. (Not dead, they told him, but it felt close enough in his opinion.) How to control the powers he'd never known he had. Who it was that had sent Salad, one of his dearest friends, to kill him, and why. They didn't know why Salad had agreed. Had...any of it ever been real?

Another thing he'd learned was how to absorb betrayal and keep moving.

He sat, now, in Salad's apartment, waiting for them to get home from their latest hit. He kept most of his emotions off his face. He felt a lot about this, but now was a time to look serious. Not to let Salad get the jump on him again. And when the front door opened, he was ready.

"Hello, Salad," Ene said. "We need to talk about the Paradox People."
