"Yes?" responded X's avatar.

Darryl dropped his notes, spinning around. "Where-where did you come from?"

Darryl stared at the duck. "I, uhh, wanted to talk to you. How does narration.... work?"

“Well I... I’m not sure. If I want something to happen, I just make it happen.” Salad said. “Like this.” The duck turned bright purple.

They gestured towards X’s avatar. “I’m sure an older Narrator would know more.”

Salad shrugged. “I just do it, I guess. It comes naturally. I never thought to question how or why.”

"Ah yes. So, I've always wondered: How did you become a narrator? Were you born one? Did you find a mystical artifact?"

Salad frowned. “I have always... been. I was created as a Narrator.”

“My Author.” Salad cocked their head. “I think...”

"An Author? Who is your Author?" Darryl continued scribbling notes furiously. "Also, how did your friend X dissapear out of reality like that?" @Ookla the Reserved

Salad’s expression became distant. “My Author...” They shook their head. “They do not wish to be named. They are quite timid. As for your second question, I’d rather leave that for X to answer.”

"This is the Land of Dreams," said X's avatar. "Reality is a bit more malleable."

"Narrators powers come from a dream core, a miniature reality in our minds. Narration projects that imaginary reality into reality reality."

"Actually, it may be that you simply do not remember not being a Narrator. Characters can become Narrators, but their memories are lost if they do so."

"The Land of Dreams? you mean my entire reality has been part of a dream?"

X shrugged. "Truth is, all of reality is a dream in the minds of the Authors."

"Yes, although in many places it is forbidden."

"She'd better be," Rhapsody said.

Darryl looked at Rhapsody nervously. "She won't die. I can promise that much. Her soul is stable, so she won't deteriorate."
