"Sure. Give me a week to study the spell to ascertain if it's possible, then five or six years to figure out how to do it. That's the best case scenario. Worst case scenario, after the focus overloads itself, the energy will go into your soul instead. No telling what that would do."

Uh... you know what, let's try it. There's always three more of me if I don't make it. Melody stepped onto Symphony's shoulder and lay down around her neck.

"Try the chopping thing? Okay. So, all what I'm going to do is cut the connection between you and the focus. While this will end the spell very quickly, there will be a few seconds of backlash when the focus stops absorbing the energy and the spell's safety matrix stops functioning but before the energy is dispersed. I'm fairly certain it won't kill you, but it will probably knock you out for a while".

Sounds good. Be careful! Melody jumped to the ground and lay down. Ready!

"All right." Darryl pulled out a pair of glowing black scissors. "This is a very simple process. All I have to do is cut the connection. After calculating the exact strength and type of the connection, then formulating a revealing agent that makes the connection become visible. Fortunately, I already did everything besides cutting it." Darry flung a yellow powder into the air, causing a glowing line to become visible, then carefully positioned his scissors and closed them with a barely audible *snip*.

The cat disappeared and left Medley lying on the ground, unconscious.

Darryl looked relieved. "Well, that was a lot less explosive than I had wor-" he cut off as the "delicate" figurine exploded violently.

Capella gasped. "What was that? Is Medley okay?"

Darryl coughed, wincing as he pulled a shard of rock out of his arm. "Just an explosion. Medley's fine. I got the shield up in time." He gestured towards Medley, who was lying on the ground unconscious, surrounded by a glowing green magic shield. "In all honesty, that went a lot better than I thought it would."

"Okay, good." Rhapsody sighed.

"She'll wake up soon, right?" Symphony asked.

Darryl walked over to Medley and checked her pulse, then waved his hands and wrote some symbols in the air. "Yep. She should wake up in three to four weeks."

"So... what do we do until then?"

"Um, I'm not sure. There was a narrator or two here earlier. I might try to find them again. I really need to figure out their powers more."

"That sounds rather boring, although I think Medley would enjoy it."

"Oh, that's definitely true. I met one before I got sent here."

"Ah, X. Let's see... What do I have in my notes. Yeah, I have nothing other than his name. What do you know about him?"

Salad appeared, inexplicably holding a duck, which was quacking rather annoyingly.

Darryl jumped. "Ah, hello. Good to see you."

"Yes?" responded X's avatar.
