Passion he/him Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 I just started rereading wok again and got confused by something in the 2nd chapter. Szeth indicates he wouldn’t take Shardblade even if he would be able to get hold of a set because it would ruin his lashings. Why exactly is this? Is this something that affects all wind runners or is it just because he’s using an honor blade?
Argent he/him Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 It has to be some weird interaction with his Honorblade. The Windrunner Dalinar sees in the Starfalls vision wears Plate while being Lashed; it's the other Radiant, the one who doesn't have Gravitation, who had to dismiss her Plate in order to be Lashed.
RShara she/her Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 (edited) Inert Shardplate can't be Lashed by anyone. Adolin had to leave his Shardplate behind when they flew to Kholinar (though I think they could have pulled it along in a basket or something). And as Argent mentioned, a Windrunner can't affect someone else's Shardplate either. But they can Lash themselves in their own Radiant Plate. Presumably, this involves Identity and affecting Invested objects with someone else's Investiture. When/if Szeth manages to manifest Radiant Shardplate of his own, he should be able to Lash himself in it just fine. Edited May 23, 2019 by RShara
Karger he/him Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Normal plate nowadays is still keyed to the identity of its old bearer so the two investitures would interfere with each other. If you make your own plate that is no longer a problem.
