Philomath she/her Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 I love all that Dalinar has shared of the in world Way of Kings. Does anyone else wish we could get a published version of it as a companion to SA? Maybe by someone at Dragonsteel with Brandon but not Brandon. His time is too precious to spend on that despite how much I would like to have it.
RShara she/her Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 Sorry, Brandon isn't really interested in that happening. Quote Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] Are you going to write books like, Way of Kings? Not the Way of Kings you already wrote but the Way of Kings in Way of Kings? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] I am not planning to. Feels like it'd just be a lot of work for very little-- Orem signing (Dec. 21, 2017) Quote Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] In the Stormlight Archive, you've got the actual book The Way of Kings, are you planning to write it? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] No, I am not. I feel like it would be an exercise that would take a lot of effort for very little value to the community or to myself. I like it also being opened-ended so I can be like, "Oh, this should be in there," and then be like "Hey, here is a new quote from The Way of Kings". Skyward release party (Nov. 6, 2018)
+Invocation Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 I don't want to put that much stress on Sandman. Dude's working enough as is. 2

That’s too bad he doesn’t think it would be valuable to his audience. Though I can understand not wanting to put anything in stone so that he can write whatever he wants from it later. 1 hour ago, Invocation said: I don't want to put that much stress on Sandman. IllNsickly he/him Posted April 9, 2019 Posted April 9, 2019 (edited) After trying to slog through ‘The Silmarillion’ years ago, I am perfectly happy to skip companion books to large series. Personally, I am glad that he isn’t interested in writing any. Edited April 9, 2019 by IllNsickly Missing letters 1
IntentAwesome Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Pretty sure the The Lord of the Rings was the companion book to the Silmarillion 2
galendo Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 The Silmarillion is better than the Lord of the Rings, IMHO, in large part because LotR is pretty formulaic and the Silmarillion anything but. But I have no particular desire to read an in-world Way of Kings.
